This game will start with characters at Level 5 and is LGBTQ friendly. History Prior to 100 years ago, the power dynamics in the world were very different. Long-lived races held dominion over shorter-lived races. Tieflings, orcs, and humans, etc were specifically under the thumb of certain clans of high elves who took up the rank of 'noble' most readily.  Then one day, in a remote section of the Kataart mountains of Zephilia, the ground opened up and the Abyss was revealed. Cutting a wide and unfathomably deep hole in the landscape, the Abyss brought with it not only alien flora and fauna but also the introduction of magic to the surrounding world. Adventurous hearts rushed to be among the first to explore the Abyss however the true surge began after teams began bringing back artifacts (both magical and mundane) along with valuable ore and raw gemstones. Many foolhardy expeditions were lost not only to dangers inside but also to the decompression-sickness-like symptoms that plagued those who were not careful in their ascent. Several scientific teams were dedicated to the mapping and cataloging of the Abyss and its effects. Backed with government coin they were named The Agency for Zephilian Illumination and began working with adventuring teams to bring back samples for study as well as track the effects of the Abyss on those who entered it. At the same time, many risked the pit seeking their fortunes and sold their findings to private buyers. The city of Perspective which sits on the edge of the Abyss began here. As more was learned about the Abyss a decision was made to implement safety measures and licensing systems to discourage unprepared Abyseilers. With a newly erected barrier and increased security presence, the number of fatalities dropped significantly and the profits for both private and government ventures skyrocketed. Once star ore began to make its way out of the abyss there was a bloody revolution. With magic on their side, those shorter-lived races were able to use their superior numbers to stand up to the sheer combat experience the elves had on their side. Things have since quieted down and found a sort of equilibrium. The war officially ended about 40 years before the present day.  Present The city has grown into a bustling steam-and-magic-powered metropolis stretching out on the Northeast edge. The Abyss has single-handedly reinvigorated the Zephilian economy after a 50-year recession and the country is now enjoying a boom that looks like it may never end. Throughout the wider world, there is a sense of tension stemming from the sheer proliferation of powerful magical weapons across the globe. While it doesn’t necessarily affect most people’s day-to-day life the situation is of constant concern to those who hold power and those that seek it. Perspective has managed to stay somewhat separate from these political problems due to being heads and shoulders above the rest of the world in terms of sheer access to magical materials. You have all come here for your own reasons and find yourselves in need of a sponsor when a stranger approaches you with an offer: they’re starting a new guild and they want you as their first members.
