[Weekly Downtime Thread][Summer III 1524 HC]

Please post any of your downtime activities below. You can find the full rules for downtime here . You can find last week's downtime thread here. Always remember to be specific about what downtime action you are taking! If you're leveling up type that in your post labeled as OOC! If you're looking into an item be specific about where that item is from, what mission, when you got it, who from, etc. If you tell me "I read that book I found" I am going to likely have no clue what you are talking about. Also a reminder players only get one main downtime action per week.
Cordie:  Cordie spends her time at the Cohort, now and then leaving flowers at her own grave, and standing by herself talking to seemingly nothing a lot as she focuses on her bond, curious for more magic and more secrets. (Leveling up, taking Pact of the Tome). Teresa: Teresa pretty much loses herself in her training after her last mission, but her chats with Agatha while teaching her Anuirean help keep her grounded. She focuses considerably on measures to combat darkness, after having had so much trouble with it previously. (Leveling up). Ingund:  Ingund isn't doing anything particularly special, simply training herself and improving her skills. (Levelling up)
Prudence: Prudence will continue to try and bring some sort of order within her lands. She would focus a bit more time learning Anuieran (learning a language) hoping that if she speaks the native tongue her people would have an easier time accepting her rule. She will get together a very small retinue, to send ahead and announce to the baroness that she will heed her call to arms personally as soon as she can. If her custom armour is done she would collect it. Zentha: Would like to start researching divination magics, and where she could find practices related to such.
Agatha: Agatha will spend her time trying her best to learn Anuieran from Teresa. (Learning a language.) Nim : Nim will spend her time practicing and improving her skills. (Leveling up,)
Eginoc: Heads down to the docks to find work to distract him from the trials of the adventure and earn some coin to help lower his newfound debt.
Zolis will spend some time inspecting his new tattoo he got during the voyage to mission 1N and researching the Kraken and the Bloodline of Masela. He will spend time by the water reconnecting to his Kinasi roots of seafaring merchants.
Jannis took his mug of ale from the bar in the common room of the Cohort Arcanum and made his way across the common room.  He took a seat near a window overlooking the training yard.  A sling kept his left arm tightly against his chest to minimize it's movement.  His shoulder and arm were deeply bruised from the hit he took from that undead construct, but the necrotic effect it had on his arm was worse.  It was healing, finally, but the pain was still constant...  the ale helped. He took out the letter he had received some time ago, but had never opened.  It was from his mother in Kiedel.  He opened the missive and took a swig of his ale as he read the note. Dear Jani, I wish ye would drop this whole act, and just come home now. It was one thing before, but now you're telling me that you have gone to The Harrowmarsh!? My god boy a mother's heart can only bear so much! I know ye mean, and every coin does help, but by the gods please don't let this letter I have from you be the last. I really love you, and don't want anything to happen to you. This Cohort Arcanum business is far too dangerous! Come back home, and we'll figure things out together as a family. Find ye a good wife to settle down with! With Love, Heike  (Mommy) Jannis crumpled the letter with his good hand and tossed it across the table.  It was all his family ever wanted... to sit idly by, doing hard work for little pay, kowtowing to that pile of feces Hugo Farber.  A fat waste of a man who did nothing but sit back and rake in gold on the backs of other people's suffering.  He absently scratched his cheek where one of Hugo's guards had almost taken his head off...  Jannis had barely escaped with his life that night, and he hadn't been home to Kiedel since.  Still, they were family, and he wanted to end their suffering... but he was not going to be another one of Hugo's lackeys like his father. Reaching into his satchel, Jannis produced a quill, inkwell and parchment.  Taking another gulp of ale, he set down the mug and penned a reply. Mother, I know not of what act you refer to.  This is my life.  I refuse to be a fisherman working myself to death while my employer continues to defile and enslave my sister.  I was born to greater things, not simply by my own desire for such, but by skill and aptitude as well.  My studies have continued to flourish, and I am working my way up the ranks of the Arcanum.  I have met royalty, worked with military commanders, and traveled across the Brecht and Khinasi lands.  I faced the Harrowmarsh a second time, made allies of honorable awnsheglien, and have traversed the mountains of The Hag.  I've battled giant scorpions, lizard folk, giant owlbears, bandits and the undead.  Through all this, I have survived and prospered.  I've not yet made many friends, but I've proven myself to be a reliable and respected member of my company.  I'm making a name for myself throughout the Brecht and Khinasi lands.  This is what I was born to do.  In the two seasons I've been with the Cohort Arcanum, I've earned more than I would have earned working for 3 years as a fisherman.  This money is used not only to better myself, but to see a better life for our family... and to free Ludwina from Hugo's vile clutches.  This is a mission I will not waiver from.  There can be no rest for me until she is returned home safely, and I no longer have to worry about Hugo ever controlling our family ever again. I plan on coming home to visit, but the time is not yet right.  There are some things I need to finish here before I come back to see you.  I promise, it will be before the end of the year.  As previously, I'm including money for the family.  10 Kraken is for Hugo to be put directly against father's debt that Ludwina has been forced to pay.  The other 8 Kraken is for the family, for food or whatever else you may need. I hope that you are all in good health, and I look forward to seeing you upon my forthcoming visit. Your son, Jannis Sealing the letter, Jannis put it in his satchel along with the supplies to be sent by messenger later in the day.  First, he needed to visit the library to do some research. OOC:  Aside from sending the letter home, Jannis will spend his downtime in the library's legal section researching the laws of Keidel in the Rohrmarch regarding indentured servitude as far as its legality, types of work that are permitted, length of contracts, and any clauses or conditions that might invalidate a contract.
Roland will spend his downtime training in the roguish arts to level up to level 2 (since I somehow missed this before).
Dragomir "Drago" Black or as the Kallanon put it "Dragomir The Black": Will be following under the wing of Leana Stillborn - The Scarlet Devil as instructed by the Kallanon after his Trail. He will be trying his best to be charming in the hope Leana Stillborn starts to like him as a person. More importantly, he will be listening the best he can to her words as the Kallanon and Leana Stillborn made it clear how dangerous the task of breaking his pact will be. The only suggestion he will make is asking Leana Stillborn if he should get one of the diamond dust tattoos he has heard about. If he is allowed to choose any tattoo, it would be cool in the eyes of a 14 year old boy but cringe to everyone else. Apart from that, he will be following Leana Stillborn instructions to the letter. OOC:  He currently has 37 Platinum Coins. So could afford the 300gp one if required. Black as just a last name but hearing the Kallanon say it as a title... well that's sticking.  Orithar Trisk: Martha has disallowed The Cohort Arcanum from taking the items from her mansion after the events of Session 20 and has requested all stolen items to be returned to her. Orithar will give back all items (Books and Trinkets) he took expect for the one main scroll of information that was a key item of note during the session. This scroll detailed complex magic that Orithar was unable to understand. After giving all items he took from her mansion to the Cohort to return to Martha, Orithar will be using his made downtime action to study the scroll for information. Many assumed Orithar is interested in the magic for its power however this is not true. Orithar studies the scroll to learn how to protect one from magic of this kind (Abjuration wizard). Orogs are known to not think twice about selling their souls for power and having a way to protect them from themselves is very appealing. In RP chat they also have brought Orithar the bone axe to identify. He will spilt if time between the two. Using one pearl on each if required. OOC - I have the Sage researcher background feature and 100gp of pearls for the x2 Identify spell to help with this activity.  I After reading the Cohort log Session 24: The Ghosts of Morrendeep by Teresa Eirwen (Serephen). He secretly returns the gold 30 gold to Teresa Eirwen during the night as reading it made his chest hurt. OOC: Did this in guild-hall chat, just letting you know.  Siegfried Morton : Level up - Will be slowing moving about the churches praying. At one point getting lost and ends up praying in the wrong church.  Fenris Nathair - Will be leveling - Multiclass into druid. (Please see multiclass request)
Diesa Gemfire Location: The Halls of Cohort Arcanum on the Island of Fabrica Research(?): Diesa spends her time back at the Cohort after the weeks she spent in Baruk-Azhik. She keeps an ear to the ground for any news out of that realm and its neighbours by taking time out to converse with Captain Leila whenever the adventurer-turned-sea-captain makes port on Fabrica between her trading and ferrying tours. When there isnt much news to discuss Diesa asks Leila about her experiences as an adventurer and sailor and if she has ever ventured beyond Cerillia, perhaps to the northern continent of Thaele.
Tarkus has been missing for a long time now, only being seen at very brief moments at the Arcanum to report in, He has spent this time Readjusting to his Body not only his one arm but his changing form, He spends this time with his mother and the other travellers learning more songs and tales. (levelling up to 4th)  He will return to the Arcanum, ready to adventure again ( and it has nothing to do with him spending a large portion of his Gold on wine, food, men and women)
Korak: After learning of the Mammoth hunter going after Siegfried, Korak will ask to speak with the Kallanon and ask him to set up a bounty to mend relations with Urkenhame, the other members do not seem to care about going this mission without monetary gain. Of course any who were part of the problem would get no pay and Korak only asks for a chance to regain favor with Drachenward and the Arcanum. He also expresses his sorrow at the loss of this land and starts to ramble on about how the place reminded him of home and how he just wanted to help. If the Kallanon would accept the posting of the mission he would send a letter to Queen Freya and  Larmedyth. Spending renown to make sure it gets to them if needed.      "I just want to start by saying I am a fool for not doing more to protect your home, I should have just silenced that damn Moon King when my group would not stop speaking to him.. Even more I handed Hunter the bag that disappeared when he entered your gates, I should have dumped it out and sent the bag into the woods. My only solace is that we were able to clear the gates of the gnolls for the citizens to escape. I wished to stay and aid as many as possible in finding safety when I was warned by a little girl about the mammoth stirring. I was not certain as to what it meant and found out about this warrior who has sworn vengeance against our party and for some reason Hunter in particular.       Unfortunately the others do not seem to bear the same sorrow that I hold for the loss of your city, like any organization there are some who do not value honor and are only looking for personal gain. But there are those who are virtuous and respect the titles they are given, I hope in the few weeks of my stay I have shown you that I truly care for your people. Urkenhame reminds me of my own home before it was attacked by Oroc and our people driven out. It pains me that I am responsible for a beautiful city and citizens to fall into ruin and end up like my home. Even if your people no longer trust the Arcanum I will do all I can to aid you and regain their trust.      I hope to mend relations with the Mammoth Warrior then the people of Drachenward.   I wish to arrange a meeting where I can state my intentions to the Mammoth warrior and trusted members of the community, I will offer my penance for my failures as a Housecarl of Drachenward and a member of the Arcanum sent to aid you. All I wish is for your people to accept my atonement and once again allow the Arcanum to aid you in rebuilding your home and relations between our two groups. Selfishly I do hope your people will once again accept me into their fold, I met so many wonderful people during my stay and I hope they are all doing ok.      I wish to have this meeting on xx.xx.xx (Whenever the session happens) and I understand if you can not come, all I ask is a mix of citizens and the Mammoth Hunter be there and that I be allowed to speak my peace before offering penance. What they decide to do with me after this I will accept it as long as the Arcanum as a whole is forgiven and allowed access into the lands once again." Sincerely,  Korak Flomhelm Lolgon: (Level 3 Griffon Knight)  He continues to stay with his friend Evrat at the Griffon Knight's domain taking an interest in the creatures. Lolgon being new to the area was not aware of the fierce winds that would be somewhat taxing on a grown man to stand in but due to his height it managed to carry him off of a cliff. Lolgon accepted his death in that moment but found himself floating in air feet above the ground being held by the beak of a beautifully colored white griffon. After this ordeal Lolgon spends more time with the creature and the two bond with one another as equals. Evrat takes notice of this bond and offers to teach Lolgon the ways of a Griffon Knight and if he is successful in training he will be accepted into the order. After rigorous training Lolgon masters the commands and seating position on his new friend, the two now fighting as one. Lolgon gives her the name of Gera and the two return to the Arcanum.  Hedrin: The boy is curious about the bird they saw in that mountain and decides to ask Exoban about it and also spends some of his time trying to read up on it, focusing on books about the Hearteater and its minions.
Savas Al-Hadar will spend his downtime in the Cohort Arcanum practicing his martial arts and meditating to Khindai to seek enlightenment. OOC:  Training for level 2
Hunter Layton  will stay within the Cohort studying the Shadow World. Drake Darkwood  will practice his arts and progress to level 3. Grim  becomes a wraith......
Rob : Will stand on his guard while riding, as the assassins might or might not still be on the run. Maybe they'd even go so far as to attack the Lords and Ladies of Abbatour. He will continue trying to learn to ride from the stablekeep, after said keep has been paid the sufficient money of course. Takumir : Will spend his time in reflection of his actions during this weeks mission. He will try to do some caravan guard duty to start earning some change to begin paying off his debt, while he isn't adventuring. Shango : Having had a relatively successful week, will spend a week drinking and celebrating this in Binsada, residing in a comfortable tavern. Other than that, he will just train and meditate like he's used to.
Ingram Alrikson: After the last devastating mission, Ingram goes to where Smiths go to meditate and reflect - the forges of the Smiths guild. While there, he also asks around if anyone knows of a wizard, ideally one versed in the ways of War, that would be open to taking a student.  OOC: Ingram (Fighter) is multiclassing into a War Magic Wizard
Darvius spends his down time refining his unarmed technique and training to level 5!
Mamm : Mamm will spend her daytime training ( LEVELING UP to 3 , Martial Archetype: Battle Master). During the evenings, she'll be helping out in the kitchen at a local orphanage, having been inspired after reading about one of the Cohort's founders. Ant : Still distraught over the loss of his crew (again), Ant spends the bulk of his time trying to focus his frustration and anger, so that it can be a benefit in battle, instead of a hindrance ( LEVELING UP to 2 ). In the evenings he drinks like a sailor, as he's not working.
DOWNTIME IS OFFICIALLY CLOSED Be on the lookout for an update shortly.
Jasta Stanley: spends his day training , and than drinks most of the night away at the tavern (leveling up to 2)
Cordie Cordie finds a book sitting on the grave. It's full of mysterious text that only she can seemingly read. Teresa Teresa is able to refocus, and manages to improve herself. Ingund Ingund trains with the help of her sheep. The master teaches the pupil. Sheep teaches Ingund the secrets of Baashing her opponents. Prudence Prudence recovers her armour. It's actually been finished for awhile now. The craftsman ship is quite exquisite. Her efforts to bring her lands in order are not for nothing, but there still seems to be allot of unrest. Especially as rumors spread about the baroness, and her consort. She finally manages to get a handle on Anuirean by the end of her stay. It's not refined yet, but it will do. Zentha Zentha discovers that the most common place for magical research is the Royal Imperial College of Sorcery in the Imperial City of Anuire. Outside of that many sidhelien cities have their own libraries of magic. There are a few other locations scattered around Cerilia as well, but she doesn't find the exact text as to where. Of course The Cohort has some tomes on such things for those willing to search for them. Nim Nim hones her skills to the point where she feels like she has finally come into her own. She has mastered the basics of her trade, and moves onto more advanced techniques. Eginoc Eginoc doesn't have much luck finding good work. He only earns 24bp during his time. Zolis Zolis spends some time researching the tattoo he has, but cannot find any records pertaining to it. Jannis Jannis sends his letter out, but his mother does not send a reply this time. The lands of Rohormarch are currently in civil war so any sort of consistent law is difficult to find. With that said it is obvious from what Jannis reads that most people who enter indentured servitude never leave it. Neither do their children, or their children's children. The owner of the debt tends to continue to pile on costs of living, food, drink, etc. Essentially trapping the person with ever mounting debt. With all of that said the land is currently in civil war. Hugo (who is also a minor Lord) currently sides with the König along with most of the other nobles in Keidel. If they were to lose the war all the nobles would be at best stripped of their lands, titles, and possessions. At worst they would be beheaded to set an example. If Fürst Oden Rohr wins the war Jannis' sister would be freed of her debts by default. Assuming that Lord Hugo's diplomacy with the new supreme ruler fails. Roland Roland works on developing his skills, and improves them significantly. Drago Leana can transcribe the tattoo herself. It's a horned flamed with furious eyes. She teaches Drago of the dangers, and benefits of dark magic. As well as the pitfalls to be avoided. She seems to keep her distance as a teacher. Always staying cold, and to the point. Orithar The axe is non-magical, but seems to be a replica of wound. It might be helpful in identify the actual weapon. The scroll is far too detailed for Orithar to even begin to comprehend. Even with the help of identify. He does however know that The Imperial City of Anuire has a college that might have someone who knows about it. Alternatively he could try asking The Magian, but doing so would be a coin flip as to rather the undead wizard would help the half-orog, or simply kill him on sight. Siegfried Siegfried prays, and prays. Eventually he feels a new power welling up inside of him. Suddenly his ability to cast spells has been raised to the next level. Fenris OOC: I will allow Fenris to begin multi-classing here, but we are going to need to have a chat. Writing a multi-class into your backstory is not a valid excuse for multi-classing. It essentially circumvents the entire idea of our multi-classing rules, and ends up being very meta (my dad was a wizard, my mom was a barbarian, my sister was a cleric, my brother was a rogue, my second cousin twice removed was a bard...). You'll need to find a proper teacher. (1/3 Multi-class) Diesa Not much news comes out of Baruk-Azhik that she hasn't already heard. However when asked about Thaele she tells Diesa that she's been to it many times before. It's mostly full of Rjurik tribes, but there are beastkin of many different kinds in that land as well. She also tells you stories of the Berkan, a tribe of bearfolk who populate some of the northern land. They're very wary of other races, and live a lifestyle actually quite similar the Rjurik people. She also tells Diesa tales of other people with bestial traits who are not awnshegh. Though from the sounds of it most of them live on Torova Temylatin these days. Supposedly they have a hidden village where they can live without persecution from the other races. Rather that last story is true, or just a tall tale is unclear, but Leila seems to believe there's some truth in it. Tarkus Tarkus learns many new songs, and the secrets in how to weave magic into them. Korak Korak spends 3 renown to make sure his letter is sent. The Kallanon agrees to post a mission to the Board of Fate. Lolgon Lolgon returns to The Cohort as a Griffon Knight (don't forget to choose which domain you are becoming a Griffon Knight from). Hedrin Hedrin spends time looking for information on Solaria, but much of it is shrouded in mystery, or books left in the forbidden archives. Savas Savas' mix of training, and meditation to Khindai do indeed result in improvements to his abilities. Hunter Layton Hunter discovers that pockets to the Shadow World exist all over Cerilia. However finding them is often times difficult, and finding a way to pass through them is even more difficult. Worse yet many pockets are one way, meaning the return journey might be extremely difficult. Not to mention the Shadow World is full of dangerous monsters, creatures, and even dragons! In fact it is home to The Shadow Dragon! Many terrible creatures come to Cerilia by finding a pocket, and opening it up. Drake Darkwood Drake improves himself, and his abilities become slightly more refined. Rob While no assassins attack Robert does finally learn how to properly ride his steed. Takumir Takumir earns 72bp from his guard duties. Unfortunately a lack of hazard pay made the journeys not worth much at all. With that said the caravan did cover food during the trip, so the man was able to pocket any money he didn't spend on frivolous items. Shango Shango rests both his soul, and mind. He feels refreshed, and gains inspiration! Ingram OOC: Again you'll need to actually make sure you go out, and find a teacher. For now I'll allow you to start learning with Presphine, but you'll need to either find another PC to teach you, or take up a quest to find a proper teacher. Darvius Darvius spends time practicing in the way of the open hand. He practices against himself in long rituals of meditation where he creates images in his mind to learn from. The practice pays off, and his speed improves significantly. Mamm Mamm spends the mornings training, and the afternoons helping with the children. The sight of the children shouting, screaming, and clapping as she trains seems to inspire her to new heights. Ant At the thought of his losses, and with the drink in his blood Ant learns to channel his rage more effectively. He finds a partner in this ritual with Jasta who does the exact same thing. Jasta OOC: See Ant's downtime above. OOC: I'm allowing Jasta's level up here as Ryan is new. This is a special exception! Agatha Agatha spends some time trying to learn Anuirean, but doesn't manage to get it down yet.
