Barbarians of Lemuria is a rules-light, d6 system, in the Sword & Sorcery genre. If you're unfamiliar, Sword & Sorcery is a gritty, pulpy, low-fantasy, low-magic action genre. Examples of Sword & Sorcery stories, heroes, and films include Conan the Barbarian, The Beastmaster, Fafhrd & The Grey Mouser, Jirel of Joiry, Thieves' World, and Imaro. It is a genre full of barrel-chested barbarians, cunning thieves, violent battles, beautiful virginal maidens, and anti-heroism. Barbarians of Lemuria is an incredibly simple system, revolving around rolling 2d6, and adding modifiers or penalties, to reach a target of 9. Characters have 4 Vital Statistics, and 4 Combat Statistics that modifiers are derived from. Unlike typical fantasy RPGs, characters do not choose a race or class. Instead, they choose a Homeland, 4 Careers (somewhat similar to classes, but not really), and a number of Boons and Flaws. These choices, though very simple, manage to produce very fun, diverse characters rich with roleplayability and story. Character creation takes about 10 minutes, not including conceptualizing. Why You Would Want To Play You grew up loving Robert E. Howard's Conan stories, or similar. You enjoy fast-paced, action oriented stories You hate getting bogged down in rules, class abilities, and racial features You're new to tabletop roleplaying games, and want to start simple You like playing an antihero, who's in it for the treasure and spoils, instead of the greater good. Why You Wouldn't Want To Play You love highly tactical combat, where turns can take up to 15 minutes of deciding how to position yourself, control the battlefield, and maximize your efficiency. You want to be the High Elf wizard, slinging spells and hoarding magic items. You want to be the gallant, chivalrous knight, in gleaming platemail mounted on a noble steed. If you're interested, please PM me. If I get enough interest, I'll run the game. The rules, including character creation, can be taught in about 30 minutes total. Game time will be determined when/if we decide to play.
