help with uploading images

I am trying to upload a map I created onto roll20, but it wasn't working. Other images and maps work just fine. the map I'm trying to upload is about 27 MB. it is just this one that's not working.
Uploaded images must be 10mb or smaller. Try saving it with a lower quality or slice it up into portions and join it together in Roll20.

That sounds extremely large and might cause performance problems. Is there a way to get the size down? I assume it is a jpeg? if so, can the quality/compression be dialed down? If not a jpeg, why not? And to reiterate Rabulias' point, slicing is the way to go if there are no other alternatives. Several Roll20 products use this method, like the map of Watredeep.
the file was a PNG but I changed it to a JPEG and it then it was less than 10 mb. it then worked. thank you all for helping me.

Excellent. For future reference, the only valid reason to use a png for a map is if it contains transparency. This is usually only for certain types of tiles that must fade into one another. Otherwise, you can dramatically reduce file size (and thus boost performance) by saving as a jpeg with reasonable compression.
