Hi everyone! I'm looking for a few
people to join an ongoing D&D 5e game. The game is set up a
little differently than a regular campaign, as the intent is to allow
players to play only some of the sessions whenever they're available.
Games are held weekly on Sundays
5:00 PM EST , but no single
player is expected to attend each week. Your characters and the world
are persistent – your actions will have consequences, possibly
affecting others who weren't even part of your adventure. However,
each individual session will play a lot more like a one-shot than a
regular campaign. You will be asked to deal with a threat or
investigate a mystery and wrap it all up in one session. Due to this
structure of the game, expect each session to be a bit more “on the
rails”. I intend to provide you multiple ways to deal with
situations (and I'm sure you'll surprise me with things I didn't
think of) so you will have agency in the story. However, you will be
expected to stick to the main story and not go after Boblin the
goblin. That said, don't let this limit you too much. I enjoy and
encourage player creativity – if you go a little too much off
track, I will simply tell you so ooc and we can steer it back in the
right direction.
The
tone of this game is very lighthearted – expect plenty of dumb
jokes in and out of character and some anachronistic things in the world. There will be plenty of RP opportunities throughout a
session, but do expect multiple combats. It will vary some adventure
to adventure, but I would say combat will take up 50% to 70% of the
session. Additionally, due to the structure of the game, it's
difficult to incorporate each character's backstory into the
adventures. It may happen at some point, but it won't be the norm. So
if you're looking for an RP heavy adventure where you explore your
character, this probably isn't the place for you – this is more of
a beer and pretzels campaign.
The world of the
game is fairly standard fantasy setting (though a homebrew one), with
some small caveats. The area you're in is surrounded by a lethal
swamp that few venture into and none return from, so you currently
don't know what is out in the world at large. Further complicating
matters is the Return Curse; any person who ventures more than a few
miles from their birthplace is automatically transported back there
sooner or later.
I don't want to go
too deep into player expectations, as exhaustive lists just invite
jerks to find loopholes in the rules. Simply put: be a decent human
being, pay attention during the game, show up if you say you will,
and remember it's a team game. If anything makes you uncomfortable for any reason, don't
be afraid to speak up and we will move on or ret-con as needed. Lastly, Discord and voice communication is
required.
If you're
interested in joining, send me a DM and tell me a little about
yourself. If you have questions, feel free to reply here or send me a DM. Thanks!
