[LFP][GMT-6][Various Games] Interest Check on a Couple Ideas: Weekly One Shots, GM Circle, Forming a Community

Edited 1579471751
Hello All! tl;dr -- I want to start a group to play one-shots of games that aren't DnD 5e, give people the opportunity to try out being a GM with people who can provide useful feedback, & maybe start a sub-community of people who get along together. Different days Mon or Wed (5:30~10pm) or Sun (12pm~10pm). I haven't been playing as many games lately as I would like. Roll20 has provided me more opportunities recently than real life has. However there are a few issues: huge imbalance of players to GMs, huge imbalance of DnD 5e to everything else, and (same as IRL) the difficulty of finding people to play with who are compatible as a group. So I could complain or try to do something about it. First, I would like to set up and run some one shots . This could give people the chance to play something they haven't tried before or play a game they like again. It would also give me the chance to play with people & see how well we get along. I have a long list of games for this -- Fiasco , Lady Blackbird , Over the Edge , more I could post if there's interest. Second, I'd like to find people who want to try GMing a game but haven't done it for whatever reason. Some folks are self-conscious (we all are). Some worry that they won't be any good (nobody starts at pro level, like any skill it needs practice). Some have tried and had people lose interest (you ask if players liked the game, they say "yeah" but then never want to play your games again). Maybe start with games that can be GM-less, let people play something with strong player agency -- Ironsworn or Fiasco again. Then move to something rules-light to learn general GM stuff without getting bogged down in rules -- old school Basic DnD , maybe Dungeon World , or learn the WaRP System from Over the Edge 2e. Eventually (or even just dive right into) games you already know you want to play ( WoD , FATE , Shadow Run , anything else people are into). I've also had the idea of having multiple GMs running for the same players. Taking turns running the game but with people you can be comfortable with. This idea is part of what makes me think of Ironsworn -- since it doesn't really need a GM -- and Basic DnD -- since the rules are so easy. I've though about doing something like this with The World's Largest Dungeon but it's DnD 3e & I still don't know quite how to make that work in a good way. Third, I want to find more people who I like playing TTRPGs with . Finding people to play interesting games with can be hard. Find people to play with who aren't complete muppets is really hard . So let's play some one shots. Find people you like without committing to a whole campaign. Take a chance running a game or two. It's more work than playing but it's different, like being a coach instead of a ball player, or getting to write a story and not just read other peoples' words. That got kind long but I think it gets everything out there that I wanted to say & ask. My life's always in flux but I have time most weeks on Mondays and Wednesdays (about 5:30 PM to 10 PM CST) and Sundays (afternoons). Who's in?
I'm interested, but not sure if I can commit more time yet. I'l watch the topic and see start to form. Sorry for a vague answer, I am legitimately interested.

If this was going to be text based, I could point you to my Roll20 community as it sounds interesting.
@TheOzzy Interest is good! Part of the idea is to have games available. I wouldn't expect everyone to be available all the time or even be interested in every game. @PatS I've considered trying something text-only as part of this project. In 2018 I tried running a 5e West Marches game for a couple months before Real Life got complicated. I was thinking text and voice on a Discord server. But depending on interest, I would also consider setting up text-only games.

I'm in.
I'm definitely interested!
LFG posting is up! https://app.roll20.net/lfg/listing/191080/ignotus-weekly-one-shots I'll send invites to everyone showing interest. I have a Fiasco game set up -- I'm gonna try to start that on Wednesday and see how it goes from there!
Nate, I'd be interested in joining the group. I'm interested is several of the games you posted and have a few I'd be interested in running too.
Gonna bow out, maybe in the near future. Gl \m/
Well, we've had a few join and a couple games mentioned. I'm going to get together a game of Fiasco for tomorrow night (22-JAN-2020, 5:30 PM CST). https://app.roll20.net/lfg/listing/191213/fiasco After that, there seems to be interest in Ironsworn and Dungeon World . I'll try to set those up next to play in the coming week or two, unless there's a solid request for something else. Anyone want to try a particular rules-light one shot?
Nate, have you seen this resource for Dungeon World? It is a guide on how to run a 4 hour one shot made up at the table. I've used it a couple of times and played in multiple games where the GM used it. I would like to try Everywhen/Barbarians of Lemuria as a player. I could also run a one shot of it.
I have not seen that before! After a quick read through, it looks promising. I'm gonna read it for detail when I get a chance. It's been a few years since I even played DW but I could get up to speed in a week or so. I've heard of BoL but haven't even read it. I'd love to play a one-shot of it. If I dig it then I could consider the GM side too.
The group is up and going. One Rangers of Shadow Deep game played last week and a one-shot of Dungeon World using the reference above ( Dragonslaying on a Timetable ) scheduled for tomorrow. Other games that have been discussed include: Last Days https://ospreypublishing.com/last-days-zombie-apocalypse Gaslands https://gaslands.com/ Lovecraftesque https://blackarmada.com/lovecraftesque/ Cthulhu Dark https://site.pelgranepress.com/index.php/cthulhu-dark/ and http://catchyourhare.com/files/Cthulhu%20Dark.pdf OSE (Old School Essentials), https://necroticgnome.com/collections/old-school-essentials Mothership http://www.tuesdayknightgames.com/mothership Anyone else interested? https://app.roll20.net/lfg/listing/191080/ignotus-weekly-one-shots
Has someone adapted Last Days and Gaslands to Roll20? I'd definitely be interested in playing these online.
I came across someone working on Gaslands : https://gaslands.com/forums/topic/gaslands-on-roll20/ I've also seen mention of playing it on Tabletop Simulator and Vassal , but I don't know how well any of these have been done. However, I have not seen anything for Last Days .
The group is still growing! Over the last week or so, we've had sessions of Dungeon World and Fiasco . Games are being set up for Gasland and Root TTRPG . There's been talk of some Free Leagues games: Aliens RPG, Forbidden Lands , and Mutant Year Zero . I'll be setting up Lady Blackbird and Over the Edge sessions soon. We're still looking for more. If this sounds interesting then please check us out: https://app.roll20.net/lfg/listing/191080/ignotus-weekly-one-shots

For those interested, Gaslands is up and running and ready to play.
More players have joined and more games added! In the next couple weeks we have OSE "The Hole in the Oak", Alien RPG "Chariot of the Gods," and Dungeon World "The Last Days of Anglekite" scheduled. Interested in joining? Check of the LFG or send me a PM! https://app.roll20.net/lfg/listing/191080/ignotus-weekly-one-shots

I'm the author for the gaslands sheet on Roll20. I also created a zip file of the turn templates and dice faces needed to play it. I also have an unused playtest room where I was testing out the sheet.
Good to know! One of our members has tweaked the sheet & has a game set up. I should get you two in touch.
