[LFM] [5e] [Homebrew] Need 1 More to Fill Friday Evenings (8:30pm CST)

Edited 1581554869
We are not taking anymore applications as of 2/12/20 - 6:46pm CST Hey everyone! As the title states we are recruiting 1 new player to fill our last spot for a new D&D 5e homebrew campaign on Friday evenings at 8:30pm CST . We plan to have Session 0 Friday, February 14th . We will have a short application process and voice interview. While many are great players, we want to find people that fit our group's dynamic on a social level as well. The campaign setting is as follows: We are set in a fairly standard fantasy setting with one difference; the world is experiencing an ice age as a result of the summoning of an ancient deity of frost who was only stopped due to the sun god himself coming to the aid of mortals. (A more in-depth description will be given at character creation.) Requirements: - Age: 21+. While there are plenty of great young players, we are a group of adults who are looking for likeminded individuals. - Working Microphone. We ask that you have a working microphone with quality sound. Nothing ruins the mood like a bad microphone. - Discord App. You must have the discord application (not the browser version) installed and be familiar with how to use it. We encourage all players to have it installed on their mobile devices as well to communicate with when away. - Community Minded. While this is recruitment for a single game, we do have some of us who like to hang out and chat from time to time. We would like to find like-minded individuals. - Committed. We plan to run this game for the long-term. We also expect players to treat this as a commitment and not just an optional hobby. - Mature/Serious Character Concepts. We like to have a more serious tone in story rather than zany. Don't be afraid to add quirks and whatnot, but we do want the tone to be fitting with the setting. - Team-Player. While we all have grand ideas for our characters, remember that there are 4-5 others playing the game with you. While a choice or action may be fun for you, it may not be fun for the other players at the table. - Roleplayer. While we enjoy all aspects of tabletop gaming and D&D, we are heavy roleplay and narrative focused. If you have read to this point in the post, please mention the word “railroad” in your application. - Fluent English Speaker. We have no problem with anyone joining, but we do not want any communication issues during the game if possible. - Experience in D&D5e and/or Tabletop Gaming. If learning 5e for the first time, you must put forth the effort to learn, but don't feel like you need to know everything immediately. Current Character/Group Needs: Tentatively we haver more magic users than anything. We will probably be needing martial based characters. We of course are open to all characters and applicants, though we definitely want some synergy. Interested? If this is a campaign and group you are interested in, please fill out the short application below and message [removed] on discord . Upon going over your information and a short interview with the DM and a few players, we will notify the player on our decision. Once the player has been chosen and the group has been finalized, I will make an update here. Campaign Application: Name: Age: Tabletop and 5e Experience: What is your favorite part about Tabletop Gaming? What is your least favorite part about Tabletop Gaming? Please rank in order of your most favorite to least favorite pillars of D&D from the following: Combat, Roleplay, Exploration, Puzzles. What roles and classes are you open to playing? Can you give me a brief (or long) example of a character backstory you have used in the past? We are looking for a person who would be interested in joining a community. As such, we are looking for someone social. Many of us frequently throughout the week hop on discord voice to hangout, play other games, etc. Tell us a bit about yourself outside of tabletop games.

Name: Caleb Mckenzie (also railroad mention...) Age: 27 Tabletop and 5e Experience: Been playing and DM'ing for 11 years, was part of the beta test group for 5e and played off and on ever since. very familiar with rules, sage advice rulings and such. What is your favorite part about Tabletop Gaming? I am a storyteller at heart, developing stories with good characters and meaningful achievements has always been my thrill in tabletop RPGs. What is your least favorite part about Tabletop Gaming? Playing with people who are not enthusiastic about the story that they have chosen to be a part of. Please rank in order of your most favorite to least favorite pillars of D&D from the following: Combat, Roleplay, Exploration, Puzzles. From highest to lowest, Roleplay - Combat - Exploration - Puzzles What roles and classes are you open to playing? I am open to most anything. my preferences tend toward mobile martial classes like monk or rogue though when it comes to 5e i do like the rogue class a lot more. Can you give me a brief (or long) example of a character backstory you have used in the past? I write many short stories for character backgrounds and have many examples to draw from, though they tend to be a page or two long. an example of a character background I made for a friend to use goes something like this (this is a very short summary so bear with me). boy was a thief. gets in trouble with a wizard he stole from. instead of turning the boy in, the wizard curses the boy and tasks him to retrieve something for him. the boy is then teleported to an ancient labyrinth. he spends years in this labyrinth and when he finally finds the object for which he was tasked he is forced out of the labyrinth by an evil force that protects the pieces within. that is when he searches for a party to aid him and the backstory ends. I still have it in a text file if you want to actually read up on it. i also have many more backstories that i can use as an example. We are looking for a person who would be interested in joining a community. As such, we are looking for someone social. Many of us frequently throughout the week hop on discord voice to hangout, play other games, etc. I am a disabled veteran with an incredible amount of time on my hands. I am on my computer most of the time that i am awake. i doubt there would be any problem when it comes to hanging out outside of game day. Tell us a bit about yourself outside of tabletop games. I have a computer technology background, served in the airforce as a computer programmer (though i can't really program anymore), play many competetive games such as Rocket league and magic the gathering. Oh and you can contact me at email: rebullet0@gmail.com discord: Rebullet#4358
Name: Kelvin Age: 28 Experience: about 7 months mostly DMing in Roll 20. Favorite part: I enjoy roleplay in combat a lot. While I may struggle a little bit with social RP I make up for it in combat. Least favorite part: Players that railroad the campaign just so they can do their own thing with zero reason and DMs that allow it. Pillar Rank: Combat>Roleplay>Exploration>Puzzles Classes: I tend to play martial classes especially fighter. Backstory of a fighter I made in the past: White hair, scarlet eyes and standing about 6ft tall, Kryster is well built. He is broody but quite popular with the ladies. He wears a massive black greatsword at his back and a mechanical warhammer that extends to allow it to be wielded with two hands. He wears a chain mail with a black cape over it that looks worse for wear and a trinket of a tree and an axe on it. Hailing from a small village in the Whispering Jungle, Kryster had a quiet youthful life until that fateful day. He remembers it well like it was yesterday. His loved one has just accepted his marriage proposal and he was on his way to the chief's office to file the paperwork, when he heard the sound of the town bell and battle drums in the distance. He was part of the militia and he took a stand against the waves of orcs that poured into his village. The savages spared the militia for last. They bound them and let them watch as their loved ones were killed in front of their eyes. Unable to do anything as he watched the orcs slaughter his loved ones and friends, he fled in the chaos that ensued. He ran for days headed toward the town of Drithnia. He has vowed vengeance for his loved ones and his village. He trained for 5 years in the martial and arcane arts before setting out into the field. His phobia of orcs has hindered his progress but it is slowly improving as he helps other villages and learns more ways to brutalize the orcs. He used to flinch at the mention of "orc" but now he is able to stand toe to toe against a few. He still feels immense fear when there is a horde for it brings back memories of his past. "One day I will succeed, one day my vengeance will be complete." Outside of DND when I am not working I spend my time building Gundam mechs, playing guitar, read books and enjoy games.
Name : Snow Age : 27 Tabletop and 5e Experience : I have been a player only a little but I have been a DM for 1.5 years. All of my experience is in 5e. What is your favorite part about Tabletop Gaming? Having a group that can get together, tell a story and have a fun time. What is your least favorite part about Tabletop Gaming? I haven't really had any bad experiences so, I'd have to say scheduling can be a nightmare somtimes Please rank in order of your most favorite to least favorite pillars of D&D from the following: Combat, Roleplay, Exploration, Puzzles. I love all aspects of D&D almost equally, so these are very close but I'd put them like this. 1. Roleplay 2. Exploration 3. Puzzles 4. Combat 5. Railroads What roles and classes are you open to playing? Considering what you said you need, I would like to play a ranger, however if you were looking for a more melee oriented character, a fighter would be fine with me. Can you give me a brief (or long) example of a character backstory you have used in the past? This was for an arcane trickster. I was hoping to imply that the woman was a Hag but left it open to be something else. Aglos was kidnapped by a woman who killed his family and took him to raise as her own. Her glowing yellow eyes still haunt him. The only thing he has from before that is a coin from a land he does not recognize. During his upbringing he was taught a few magics and how to get around without being seen. He did a great many terrible things in the name of that woman. One day an act of kindness from someone he was robbing showed hi a better way. He used my abilities to help them and it showed him there as way to change who he was. After he had abandoned his past he found his skills were appreciated by the thieves guild and it gave him quite a bit of agency, stealing for himself more than for someone else. The woman however, still has a dark hold over parts of his mind and he must find her to remove her control. A part of him believes this will also bring peace with who he used to be. Outside of tabletop games I enjoy reading, watching movies, at the moment I'm trying to watch Critical Role. I do play some other games but the type varies. I should note that I tend to be a pretty solitary individual when I'm not playing something. While I would make most if not all of the games, I may not be around as much as you would prefer otherwise. Discord: A Drifter With Nothing To Lose#9447
Campaign Application: Name: Eric Age: 28 Tabletop and 5e Experience: been playing tabletops since I was a kid. Also have been playing and DMing 5e since it was released in 2014. What is your favorite part about Tabletop Gaming? RP and good story is the core of what I enjoy. That being said combat and action is fun in its own right. I prefer a game where there is a good mix with good RP and a compelling story line . What is your least favorite part about Tabletop Gaming? 2 part answer. 1st I dislike when there are players who only think about themselves. I tend to call these the video game players who think they are the main character when in reality it is the party. 2nd I put a lot of work into my characters. I dislike one shots. I don't want to put in a ton of effort for a single session. Characters are designed to grow and evolve over the course of a story. Please rank in order of your most favorite to least favorite pillars of D&D from the following: Combat, Roleplay, Exploration, Puzzles. Roleplay, Exploration, Puzzles, Combat. (Should be noted that I enjoy all these things. Just some more than others.) What roles and classes are you open to playing? I have played pretty much every class at one point or another and don't mind being the guy to choose last and fill gaps. I enjoy all types of characters. Can you give me a brief (or long) example of a character backstory you have used in the past? PMed it We are looking for a person who would be interested in joining a community. As such, we are looking for someone social. Many of us frequently throughout the week hop on discord voice to hangout, play other games, etc. I enjoy spending time with new people. I like to hang out when I have the time. I will say that I DM another game and have a second as a player so on those days I wouldn't really be around much. Also my laptop can't run a lot of modern games but I would definitely be down for hanging out in chat. Tell us a bit about yourself outside of tabletop games. Not much to tell. I am a chill guy with a lot of free time on his hands. I try to fill that time with hobbies. mainly writing. I use D&D characters as an outlet for this hobby. I also DM so a lot of that goes on there as well. I live and breath music, Usually I have something playing at all times. All in all just a guy looking for some chill people to hang out with and roll some dice.
