Why use skype and google+

Simple question, if roll20 has built in voice and chat functions, why do many here use skype or google+ to duplicate these features?
Because the voice/video chat plug-in they use, TokBox, is pretty much worthless. There is a new web standard called Web RTC that is being used experimentally via the dev server if you're a mentor. I haven't been able to get anyone to test it with me though... but it's supposed to be a pure HTML5 driven voice/video chat solution.

Getting everyone to use download and use Chrome to test is a bit difficult. Didn't realize it'd been made live though.
Maybe I'll give it a try then, always game for a beta test.  Says it requires Chrome, but I'm guessing it might work with the Firefox nightly build as well, right?  Or no?  It'd be nice to reduce the number of outside components needed.
<a href="http://www.webrtc.org/" rel="nofollow">http://www.webrtc.org/</a> Looks like it is available via the Firefox nightly build and that Chrome and Firefox can "talk" to each other now. Dunno if that's implemented for Roll20 though.
We use&nbsp;Skype&nbsp;because most of my group doesn't like using headphones, i have a mic on a stand and listen through my speakers. we were getting horrible&nbsp;echo's&nbsp;with no headphones. just some feed back on why we use it. Does the new standard get rid of the echo? I'm at work so i can't test it out right now.
My groups use google+ for voice/video chat and the echo problem is more due to hardware than which program you use.
I have tried these voice app (on roll20) and one issue that i found was that in order for me to hear and speak I need to keep my icon/avatar at small.&nbsp; If I decide to take them down to name only, I loose my audio capabilities.&nbsp; Just in case I run my games on a lap top, so screen space is a premium.&nbsp; When I get my desk top up and running I may not worry about having the small Icon/avatars as I will have a larger screen to run the game from. On skype (i have yet to try google hang out) I do not have that problem.

This is actually fixed in the new WebRTC impelmentation (you can set the Avatars to Name Only and keep broadcasting and receiving Audio and Video (or just one or the other).
I tried both when I attempt it and I had issues both times. &nbsp;First time because I did not have Chrome (for the WebRTC), after I downloaded and tried it again, I had the same issues. &nbsp; Will give it another try when I get a chance.

Can you be more specific about what issues you had? Did it just never broadcast at all?
