Ant Ant had been in 13 shipwrecks before coming to the Cohort. Each time, he had been the only survivor. Or so he thought... When Ant first came to the Cohort, he would ask around every now and again if anyone had heard of surviving crew members of the Sea Song, the last ship Ant had been a crewmember on. No one ever had any information for him, just like every ship before. After a while, Ant stopped asking around, figuring no one had survived. Ever since Portia and Ant revealed their feelings for one another in Rzhlevskyy, Ant hadn't been to thin of anything other than her, not even his old crew. After returning from the Vespidian hive and while planning the mead recipe with Portia using some Vespidian honey, Ant receives a letter. A letter from the Sea Song's First mate; Benjamin Perkins, asking Ant to meet up with him, who was at one of the many docks of Fabrica. Ant apologises to Portia for needing to run and meet Benjamin, but she is understanding. Ant meets up with Ben, and they get to chinwaggin' like they would have done only a year previously. Benjamin tells Ant about how more of the crew has also survived, and that they have a new ship; 'The Atonement.' Ant can't believe it. 'The curse is broken!' he thinks. Benjamin invites Ant to come join them again. At first he says no, saying he has a reason to stay on land now; his love. Benjamin suggests he bring her with. Ant thinks about Portia's burgeoning interest in the sea, wondering if she would want to. Ant says he'll think about it, with Benjamin saying they'll be in port for two more days. Ant goes off for a walk and thinks about whether he wants to go or not. The curse is broken, now. For the first time in a century, he wasn't the only survivor. He really had made his own luck. But did he really want to leave the Cohort behind? He tries to think of all he'd leave behind, but all he can think of is Portia, and how he'd be leaving nothing so long as she's with him. Ant meets up with Portia at their place they only just moved together into. After trying to think of what to say to her, he says, "Portia, would you like to come with me, and for us to sail the seas together. U-uh- if you don't, I'll stay here with you. I go where you go. But the sea, it still calls to me. But I want you there, or I'll gladly ignore the call the rest of my life." "Oh Ant..." Portia lets out a deep breath. "Of course I would go with you to sail the seas." She smiles. "Ever since I met you, I've...I've started to feel its call too..." She blushes. "I couldn't ask you to stay on land, that's not who you are." "Oh, you've made me the happiest man in the world!" and he hugs her tightly. But, as they hold each other close, he remembers something. Something in his backpack. Something he planned to give her next time they ventured out for the Cohort. But, if they're leaving, that won't happen. 'Happiest man in the world' he thought. 'Not quite yet.' He reached over to his backpack. "Portia. I have one more question." "Oh really, what is it?" "Portia, would you like to come with me..." "Yes..." "and for us to sail the seas together..." "Yes..." "As husband and wife." Ant holds up a ring, a tear welling in his eye... Portia is ecstatic, she wraps her arms around Ant and kisses him deeply, nearly forgetting to say yes, until their kiss is over. "Yes." Ant's cries tears of joy, as he puts the ring onto Portia's hand. Ant and Portia hold each other for a long while after. After an hour of silence, Ant tells her his family name, and his clan name. Something he'd never told anyone since leaving Baruk-Azhik. A big deal for any Dwerren for to reveal their family name, but for Ant, it was like reopening a century old wound. But he wanted her to know, and to know that he gave up that name a long time ago, and wishes to have hers instead... Ant and Portia go to the docks the following day, meeting up with Benjamin. They are both welcomed onto the ship, Ant asks the others to start showing Portia the ropes, while he sees the captain, asking his to marry them when out at sea. The next day they set off, on their first proper voyage together. A few days out at sea, the captain officiated the ceremony. Portia wore purple crocus flowers, placing a couple in Ant's suit. Ant straightened his hair, and tidied his beard for the occasion. For that day, he looked quite a handsome man. She was, of course, an angel. The captain of The Atonement pronounced them Mr. and Mrs. Folkor. They kissed as the crew cheered their old and new crewmates. Over the following years, they both save up their moneys, and together, buy themselves their own ship. Ant asks Portia what she'd call it. She calls their ship "The Fearless Flower." Ant manages to convince Portia to be his captain, and he'll be her quartermaster. They gather a crew, saving themselves a reasonable amount for a rainy day. They sailed together until their last days. In love. Oh, and that mead they made, was absolutely delicious. That is how Nyllyr Ant Kingbrewer, became Ant Folkor, and that is how Portia Folkor, became Captain Folkor. "We talked about how you wished you could be in a battle like the one of Traitor's demise. You listened to me talk about my love for the sea. I almost told you the tragedy of why I stopped sailing right there and then, so comfortable I was with you. We were close immediately, weren't we. Inseparable for the most part, even before you told me. Remember? When you told me you 'liked' me. Heh. Even now, thinking of back then, I blush. They were in there torturing that poor lad, and you came out. We were awkward cause Nim was teasing us, asking if we kissed each other. Gods, you remember her? Heh. She clearly knew something, didn't she? You know, when you told me you liked me, that really was it, wasn't it. We were never going to be anything other than by each others side. I couldn't be anything else. I just couldn't. You remember when we each got each other the gift of learning each other's language? Heh, and I was worried cause you were upset cause you were struggling to learn, but I didn't know, so I made you 'My Strength.' Do you remember? I remember it as clearly as if it happened yesterday my love. I always will. I always will. That was our first kiss, when we first spoke each others tongue. My heart swells just thinking about it. To think, I've spent the past years kissing you every morning, every night. I really didn't need that necklace for a lucky charm. You're the best thing that's ever happened to me. You remember that spring, where we just spent it all with each other. I swear, we accidentally stepped into a heaven. Oh Gods! Do you remember that bloody monkey?! Hahahaha! Gods, whatever possessed you to take that? Hahaha!..." "Gods I love you Portia. I always will, my love." (OOC: Retiring the character.)
