I have literally no idea what i'm doing or how to do it

I've been wanting to learn DnD for years, but never could find a group i could join. I have absolutely no idea what i'm doing or should do, or how to make a character. Can someone teach me or recommend where i should go to be taught? Please and thank you. This always looked like so much fun.
Any thoughts on which version of the game you're interested in? You could choose anywhere from the original version of the game, which came out in the mid-70s, all the way up to the impending release this summer of the latest version, which is D&D Next. Or about a half-dozen versions in between. The general trend is, the older the version of the game, the more rules-lite it tends to be. Obviously, the more recent versions of the game are more popular here on Roll20, but there are players for any version you care to look into.
There are also games other than D&D out there. There's a whole range of settings, or even games that are fantasy, but not D&D. Most DMs will need to know what time zone you are in, and what hours and days you are available to play in that time zone. So for example my games are Traveller (Science Fiction) and James Bond (Espionage), which run Fridays, or One Ring RPG (Lord of the Rings) Saturdays, 4 PM to 8 PM, EST. That way on fridays people in the US who don't work fri Afternoon can make it, but late night UK players can make it starting at their 9 PM. You've already stated that you are new to the whole thing but are enthusiastic. There are groups willing to teach new players here. I suggest looking through the looking for game listings, find a game that has the hours you need, that accepts new players, and apply, on a temporary, checking it out basis. Roll or have the DM generate a character with you, Sit in for a few sessions, try it out. Hope you find a game that fits. Welcome to Roll 20.

My advice is, keep coming back to this website every day or 2, and comb through the "Looking For Group" search engine (link at the top in the blue section). Also make a post on the Looking For Group sub-forum. Also fill in your Player Directory Profile. In those 3 places, say the same thing: You are a new player and want to learn D&D and Roll20. Look for the game pitches that mention they welcome new players. These games usually have a GM (Game Master) who is happy to help teach someone new. You may have to look for a few weeks to find some game pitches that you would like to apply to join. You may have to apply for several games before you get accepted to join one by the GM. You may have to try playing in several games until you find one you really like, where the group is a good fit for your personality & for teaching you & for your interests. So just get started, and keep trying until you find a group that can get you involved in playing.
