Looking for dm for hire (new to d&d) or tips on how to find one

Hello, I am looking for info on how to hire a dm. I have no idea of how to go about it and looking for tips to find one or possibly some people willing to dm. My wife and I want to try this d&d thing with my 2 brothers that live across the US. We all have agreed that this would be a great way to spend time together while still being so far apart. 3 of us including myself have never played any d&d. So we want to skype or use this site somehow to make this work and try it out for a few sessions. We are hoping that the max time commitment per a session is 3 hours. Any idea of how to make this possible so its fun and we don't waste our money?
I have no direct recommendation as to paying someone... I'm generally against paying to play games together and seriously doubt that the people I would pay to DM would be able to do a job worthy of the fact that they're getting paid to do it. I strongly recommend that one of you DM. It's really not hard. You could start with this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-YZvLUXcR8 Matt will show you how to run a quick adventure in very short order. From there all that is required is some basics with roll20 which I'd be happy to show you, as would many others of the helpful people here.
Putting a post here is a good start. You can also create a game listing and flag it looking for members. In the description discuss that you are looking for a professional person to run the game. If you set the Next Session will be at BLANK time that will also easily show people when you plan to be playing; Roll20 auto adjusts for timezones so this is handy. I completely support the idea of outsourcing running games if you can afford it. I GM a lot and I think to do it right, a good bit of time outside of game time needs to be devoted to planning and prep of the game, etc. Since all that planning and prep can be a barrier to entry, good idea to pass it off to someone else. Good luck finding someone.
Hey Joel. First of it's great you guys are getting into D&D, it's a tonne of fun and I would absolutely recommend the hobby as a way to hang out with friends/family no matter the distance between you all. I myself am a professional DM and I am more than happy to point you to my profile to find out more about me, and also you can have a look at my website (in the process of making it so excuse the poor layout) here . On there you can see a bunch of my social media and also testimonials from players I've had. What I will say is that the other posters above me make some good points. Learning to DM is a great way to learn and can be quite rewarding, and there are many helpful people on Roll20 that would help you out free of charge. If that's something any of you are interested in I'd definitely encourage you to pursue it. There's lots of resources available and it's less scary than one might think. However, GMing is a bit of a time commitment, and can be quite taxxing. Furthermore it's not what your post requested, and what I can offer you would be exactly what you are asking for. I can run a short campaign for your group that requires only aa few hours commitment per session, that would allow you all to get to grips with the D&D mechanics whilst enjoying the roleplaying aspect of it. I've worked with a wide range of players with varying ability levels and such, and currently specialise in shorter games known as 'oneshots'. What I'd be suggesting to your group is effectively a couple of sessions taking you through one of these short stories / 'oneshots'. That way you can get a feel for the game, and myself, before deciding whether D&D is something your group wants to continue to pursure, and whether or not I am the DM for you. From here what I suggest you do is check out my wesbite and links, see if I am the right fit for your group, and then let me know. If I am, then just message me by going to my profile and sending me a private message via the website, and we can further discuss scheduling and prices. Regardless of what you decide I wish you all the best in your search for a game and hope you all find D&D and (tabletop roleplaying in general) to be as rewarding to you as so many of us have found it to be. All the best -Billybob
Hey Joel, Welcome to the site and D&D. I've been running games for approximately 25 years and have brought many new players into the hobby. I'm usually available in the evenings EST or potentially on the weekends. If you're interesting in hiring me as a DM or would simply like to learn more send me a PM and we'll connect. Best of luck, -Adam

I don't think I want to dm yet. I just want to try a few rounds of d&d and see how my wife, my brothers, and I like it. Really I am just looking for a good way to stay connected to my family across the nation. With all this fancy technology with skype and this site, it makes it possible. Maybe if we all like it enough one of us learn to dm. One of my brothers actually has dm but doesn't want to do it because of the time commitment. The other 3 of us are completely new to d&d.
Hello Joel! I am a professional Game Master and am currently running 5 separate games. I think I would be able to take on a new one. I would check with Adam first as he replied before I did, but in case things don't work out, I am available and I don't charge much. Also, the first session is entirely free so you can decide whether you like it or not before you commit. I have been a game master for over 15 years and it's my #1 passion! If you're interested, let me know. I am willing to teach everyone the basics of the systems I know, and am generally available for questions at all time (except when I'm sleeping or in another game) if you do hire me. Hope to hear from you soon. Good luck and welcome to tabletop RPGs!
