Traveller one shot – one evening a week – UK based - GMT+0

Hi everyone, I played a lot of Traveller (classic) back in the day… um…30+ years ago. Recently got the bug to play again and have purchased the new Mongoose edition which is very similar to Classic. Would really like to run a campaign but thought I would start with a one shot and see how it goes – this online play thing is new to me…   Can offer fun and a good time for all that want to play. Thinking Monday/Tuesday evening 7pm onwards for maybe 2-3 hours a session? No previous experience of Traveller is needed. Will look to run one of the introductory modules from Mongoose.   Reply if interested – would like 3-4 players.
Hey David, Ken here! I played traveller myself a whole lot back in the day 30+yrs ago. I have most of the Mongoose 1E books in PDF. I would love to join your game then campaign. Mon/Teus is fine. I am GMT based. Hit me on Discord firebourne12#6233 or pm me so we can chat. Also I can help new players with rules etc. maybe take a little pressure of you.
I recall reading over the classic traveller books a while back and liking the idea of some of the stuff they offered. I remember being really excited about their way of handling space combat and it being closer to realistic than many of the other systems I knew at the time. I was looking over some of the mongoose books shortly after seeing this pop up. I love the idea of a scifi game and the sheer volume of books seems like it would offer a great deal of options for whatever might interest me. I know that character generation is rather out of my control compared to some other systems, so how effectively I could employ those options might be questionable, but it would still be fun to try. Especially as a one shot as there isn't a commitment to continue afterward. I could learn, get it under my belt, then if it is my cup of tea possibly join a longer game. If it isn't, I can still take satisfaction in having learned something new.
Hi David, I'm Conor, 27 years old with a fair bit of RP experience mostly in sci-fi settings. Always wanted to try Traveller so I'd be really interested in joining if you still have room. Time and session length suits me down to the ground. Cheers!
Hi, fellow Travellers  - we have three players so this project is go! Room for more if anyone wants to jump in.   A couple of questions for the group. Traveller has quite an involved character generation, which usually all the players do together – as it builds the party and their relationship with each other. So, our options are to create characters using the standard character generation process or I could provide pre-gens – what do you all think or want to do? Both have their merits - I can provide a pdf extract of the character creation rules.   Either way, looking to begin maybe next week – what are folks’ preferences Monday or Tuesday? I have been practising my NPC voices and rereading the rules…
I generally tend to think that going through character generation would be best, as we could make the choices in it that would allow us to nudge our characters in the direction we want to go. Especially if we plan to go into a larger campaign. But in this case, for a one shot, a pregen might save a lot of work and let us hop right in, but it runs the risk of either requiring a lot of them to cover all the bases or leaving some stuff out. If we don't want to go through the involved process, and you know what module you plan to run, pregens have the advantage of being suited to the module. I mean, I mention leaving things out, but if a thing isn't going to come up during the module, then it might be best not to make it seem like an option for that module. Don't get me wrong, I definitely want to build characters for the larger campaign if it happens, and would be okay building one for the one shot, but having characters suited to what is going to be going on would be useful for the one shot and pre-gens allows you to make sure that the skills are where they need to be, the group has connections to each other, and saves everyone some work. I have to imagine that making a handful of pre-gens is easier than the cat herding involved in watching and assisting character creation with new players. As for Monday or Tuesday, I am fine with either, but have a slight preference for Monday. It is nothing serious and it is no problem if we decide on Tuesday if other people have that desire.
Let's see what the others say - but quite happy to run through character generation.
Hey all, I'm new to roll 20 and to be honest I'm a complete newbie to the concept. I've watched streams and listened to friends stories and wanted to dip my toe in at the deep end. I'm in the UK and in my 30's; Mondays are good for me, Tuesdays are hot and miss but can make the effort to be on if needed.  I will need to be Spoon fed so I understand if you'd rather not while getting this set up. Let me know. I'm a blank canvas. Will play any character.
Taz - welcome to the crew. As I posted above - I am a little rusty myself and have not used D20 yet - so we can all learn about this online stuff together. So we have two preferences for Monday - unless anyone chips in who really can't make Monday we will set on that. I will post out some stuff this week for the players, once we have all decided on whether to generate characters or use pre-gens...
Okay - looks like we are on for Monday evening - 7 pm GMT - is that okay with everyone?

Nice, we're on! I'm down for Monday. Traveller character generation is one of the coolest I've seen so I'd like to give it a go at the table. I'll probably stick to the core rules, personally. I'm thinking an asteroid-minin, zero-g-beer-drinkin gambler of the pilot/engineer variety but we'll see what the dice think about that!
I'm good with Monday.

Just noticed Firebourne posted his discord, might be a good call as an alternative to the roll20 voip. Anyway, my discord is Lorge Jukas#8860
All lookin' good...
My Discord is Trotsky #0915. If anyone has a chance to try out the character generation please do - it might make things a little easier on Monday - but we will step through it all together anyway...
I've done a few trials trying to get a feel for things. I will still have questions though.
Thanks, Robot - you can ask here and I will try and answer or we can just sort it all out on Monday :)
Hey Guys, sry i have not posted! Looking fwd to meeting you and getting some traveller. Will see you tonight 7pm. Ken.
Hi all,  Is there room for one more with no real experience but plenty of gusto? i'm late 30's based in the UK.  San
Sure - great to have you onboard... I will PM you. We start tonight at 7pm. Character generation tonight - maybe a little play - depends how we get on...
keep the post running dave incase we get people dropping out.
Firebourne - Will do
This post is still active. We need 1-2 more players to join us. We currently have a pilot, astrogator, gunner & Scientist. On balance we probably need an Engineer but you are free to play whoever you like. PM Dave if you are interested in a sci fi rpg.
All welcome - we are all new to Traveller - well it has been nearly 40 years for me!
Hey guys, I’m completely new to ttrpgs and Roll20 both. I’d be happy to play as someone you needed, however I definitely will need some guidance. Let me know if that’s something you’re interested in/willing to do :)
Of course no problem - we are a pretty mixed bunch. Some experience RPGers, but all new to Traveller... I will PM you.
Hi David. Is this game still open? It looks like you may have more than your initial 3-4 preference. I've played Traveller a few times since the release of the Mongoose 2E playtest, mainly refereeing one shots. Does this game use Mongoose 1E or 2E? I'm familiar with both, as well as CT. If the game is open, I would be happy to fill whichever role the ship requires. If the position of engineer has already been filled, I could be a steward if the crew plans on taking high passengers, or perhaps a trader.
Hi Ross, I will send you our discord link so you can chat with the group and see if it is for you. We are playing Mongoose 2 and all are new to it...
