Anybody interested in getting a 5e game for Dads/Moms to play with their kids?

Hi Everyone, I DM a D&D group for my son (14) and his friends.   I have not been able to run it much recently and thought about how it would be great to have a game where he and I could play with other parents and their kids.   He isn't comfortable logging onto Roll20 on his own and trying to join a group, but he would be so into it if he did it with me and with other parents/kids. Anyways, I thought I would throw it out there to see if anyone has tried this before, or if anyone might be interested in discussing the possibility of starting something up.   Take care and keep safe, Jamie
Im in the same boat, I DM for my son (11) and his friends.  We just found Roll20 and want to give it a shot.
Hi Marc -- Awesome...  What is your experience DM'ing?  I would much rather be a player in any game that gets going.  If you are wanting to be a PC too we could see if anyone else is interested and then create and post a game where we try to enlist a DM (with a kid that wants to play too maybe?).    I know there are other people in the same situation as us... Jamie
Hey there!  I'm in the same boat, myself.  I've got a 12 year-old son and I've been DM'ing for him and some of his friends for about a year, but we would love to be able to play together.
Welcome!!!  Would you consider DMing our group?  As I mentioned to Marc above, we can always post a game where we ask if there is a DM that is also in our situation that would like to DM...
Hey there! I'm not a parent myself, but I am a 15-year old player with 10+ years of experience simply looking for a game of 5e to hop onto while the disruptions progress. Let me know if you're interested!
Hi cicada, we'll see how this develops :-)   Keep monitoring the thread.
Hi Jamie, I started playing DnD with my dad last year. we had 2 groups going on two different days, but with everything going on they both got cancelled until thing turn around in the U.S.. I am 11 and my dad is in his 30s. he currently has a busy schedule but we would both be able to play in the afternoons. We have discord, but never actually played a roll20 game.
I've got a daughter, age 11, who would be quite interested in joining any potential game.  She also has dabbled in DM'ing, but player participation would be better as neither of us have used the platform yet.
Im in the wrong time zone unfortunately (Brit living inGermany), but as an experienced DM I'd love to run this kind of game for families. Good luck, just wanted to voice my support!
Hey all, I am a long time player/GM 32 years worth, and I would love to run a family friendly game or games. It looks like there is a lot of interest here so please message me with times you would want to play as well as number of players and we can talk details (Rasfrasen#4264 on discord)
Hi Rasfrasen, that is wonderful!  Thank you :-)   My Son and I live on the west coast so Saturday afternoon at 3:00pm PST/ 6:00pm EST or Sunday Mornings at 8:00am PST/ 11:00am EST would work for us.  Also could likely do a 4:00pm PST/7:00pm EST start on most weekdays except Thursdays Jamie
Hey Barnowl - I've only ever DM'd for IRL groups, so my knowledge of Roll20 as a DM is pretty much "tutorial only".    I can step in for limited time to help out, if needed. We'd love to play!
The only time contraint I have now is I run another group on Sunday at noon cst. Other than that I am open. Would it just be the two of you or will there be more. I have had another interested contact me on discord already as well so we have the makings of a group already! I am more than willing to start more than one campaign if there is enough interest.
In terms of availability, I'm in CST and Saturday AM would be awesome, but we could make pretty much anything work. :)
Looks like a Saturday evening campaign is going to be the most common ground so far. I have two interested on discord already if we can nail down a time I can start a game and start inviting people. I realize not everyone wants to play with random people so if you prefer a more controlled player base just let me know.
Perfect -- How is Saturdays at 4:00pm PST/7:00pm EST Sound?  Is that too late for out East?  I imagine 3 hours would be the max length?
Hi, send me an Invite!  Barnowl is my Dad
Looks like Saturday 4pm pst/6pm cst/7pm est will be our start time. I will create the game and start inviting! 3 hours is fine with me, my sunday sessions go 4 or more.
Awesome!!  - OK logistics question...do you all have a seperate Roll20 account set up for your tiny human, do you plan on just letting them piggyback off of your account with each account running the 2 characters, or what's the plan there?
That will be up to the big human, roll20 accounts are free but not everyone may have multiple access points within their household. Voice is a much faster way to run the game so being able to at least listen in on discord would be good as well.
Is it viable to have one Roll20 account run 2 characters simultaneously?  I would think that it is, but I've not done it myself.  I'll need to make sure that we've got a good mic to use as I do normally use ear buds.   OK, got some stuff to work on this weekend.  Luckily, we're all trapped inside our houses with no place to go and nothing to do.  Um, Yea!..I guess...
It is possible, we can always try it out and make adjustments. I have sent invites as private messages, first game scheduled for tomorrow to create characters and discuss setting and such. Please let me know if you didn't get an invite or need one sent to another person.
I don;t think you can both play at the same time on the same Roll20 Account?  I might be wrong...
Basically its just one account with two controllable characters in it. Who calls the shots or rolls the dice is completely up to the account holder on their end.
I thought that was the case, Rasfrasen, as I've played in groups where someone had a beast companion that they controlled as well as one person that used a "sidekick", and that seemed to work pretty well.  I would just need to make sure that we had the right tokens as active when rolling anything.
7pm EST should work well for my daughter.  I will reach out on discord if there is still room.  Both her and I are new to Roll20 platform so expect some learning curve issues, but she's quite comfortable with 5e rule-set and we're already trying to setup a no-VTT session for her to DM for her friends during this lengthy home stay.
Hey James, I'm one of the players already involved in the game, and if you reach out to me on Discord at cicada#4313, I can provide a link to the server where most of the discussion is happening.
