Create NPCs

I'm a new GM to Roll 20.  I've been running Princes of the Apocalypse for awhile in person and on paper.  We need to now move to meeting virtually.  I need to create several Paladin NPCs to accompany my players for an encounter.  How do I do that?

Do you want the NPCs to be built using PC rules, or just a statblock? Also, do you want the players to control them, or keep them under GM control?

Just a statblock would be fine.  The players will be controlling them.

Apologies if this is not what you are asking, but if you go to the journal tab and click the "new" button, it will give you the opportunity to make a character. Allow "All Players" to control, and for it to be in the journal tab for "All Players", then choose "NPC" from the character sheet dialog box (if it appears--this is settings dependent. Fill in the stat block. Assign the character to a token, and link everything the way you want it. Then hit "edit" on the character sheet and save that token as the default token.

Thank you.  I now have 4 Paladin NPCs in my journal for the game.  Now how do I get them on the map for the players to use?  I brought up the map, selected the Tokens layer and tried dragging the NPCs to the map and nothing happens.  Am I missing something here?

It has to do with grabbing the image or the text.  You have to grab the name of what you want to pull out, not the picture of it.  There is a way to have only one paladin in your journal as well and pull out multiple copies of it.  As Keith said, read the tips and tricks here in the forums.
