For Persistent or "Sandbox" Games: All Maps Available

If I were to run a play-by-forum game using Roll20, it would be awesome to toggle on the ability for players to load up any map they want. This could either be a toggle on the campaign's main page or a setting on each individual map that makes it available at any time. This way, I could run a Vampire: The Masquerade game and fill my Roll20 pages with key locations around the city. Or I could run a Stars Without Number sandbox sci-fi game where each map represents a planet or space station. Sound worthwhile?
Good idea, I would like it.
I was curious on how you would run a play by forum or a play by post, it seems these games have start times. My friends and I all work different hours and go to school on different days so being able to log on whenever, update what you want to do and have the DM come in and check it would be the best. Is that what you are planning on doing or does this seem like a fantastic notion that may never work? How are you handling your sandbox game?

Headfirst , you could upgrade your players to GMs so that they can switch maps themselves. This will have a bit of a drawback in that they can gain access to any GM notes, but if you keep the GM information off of Roll20 that won't be an issue.  With that said, I could easily use this idea myself for other games such as Star Fleet Battles. :) Marcky , one way you can run a play by forum or play by post is by doing the following: Each person takes their turn as normal in PbP. They report the starting and ending point of their movement. For this purpose they can leave art markers indicating starting and ending positions.  They roll dice normally. It would be important for them to indicate what the rolls are for (such as typing out what the roll is for and then rolling it). The roll will be kept in the message history.  I hope that helps both of you. :) - Gauss
Thanks for the reply, Gauss. I think what you suggested would totally work for what I'm planning.
