New and in need of help.

Hey guys, I'm new to the site and to this type of RPG in general. I'm interested in learning how to play, specifically DD. I tried LFG and requesting invites to other campaigns but with no success. I really want to learn how to play. What do i do? Where can I find character sheets and rules books for free? If I have to buy them then fine but its the internet. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thank you all.

D&D has many versions. Google can help you to find character sheets. There's a system resource document out there for D&D 3.5

do you know any links because there are a lot of different sheets. ill keep seraching but any help would be great.

Robert, I can't specifically speak for D&D (as I stopped playing shortly after 3.0 came out), but in "coming home" to tabletop games via Roll20's awesome interface, some friends recommended a similar system called Pathfinder. Pathfinder is pretty popular and the core rules are readily available via OGL at the following locations: Paizo Official PRD: <a href="http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/" rel="nofollow">http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/</a> Paizo + 3rd Party SRD: <a href="http://www.d20pfsrd.com/home" rel="nofollow">http://www.d20pfsrd.com/home</a> There are tons of different character sheets available, most are really personal preference and there is a significant difference between how you plan to use them in conjunction with Roll20, but the next major update due at the end of the month of May will have some awesome community created sheets that will make it so much easier to begin on Roll20. Hello Robert and welcome to roll20. There are many free game systems out there with some of them obscure and others popular. Some of these are played quite regular here so Pathfinder and 3.5 are you best bet to learn and get in a game. You basically have to present yourself to the GM and convince him to let you join the group. You do this by explaining your interest and what the benefits of you joining will give the GM's be it a steady player, an interactive player, etc. Plan on having to do most of the work on trying to get in a group for there are always more players than GM's and that allows the GM's to be choosey. You're welcomed and good luck. My personal choice for a game system is the Basic Fantasy but it is not played here to much. I personally think it is a good system to get introduced into games if you never gamed before but the more popular ones are easier to find games for. Just remember you have to convince the GM what you bring to the table is worth him letting you in the game. The ration of players to GM's is so high that GM's can hold interviews and such then choose between those that applied for the spot (it is almost like a job application /interview) so bring your A game to the table in order to get in the game.
