[Rolemaster] PST Time Zone 11 am - 3 pm Sundays. HIGH FANTASY Looking for a few new players

Hey! Thanks for taking a look! The game is set in a home-created world that is very rich and full. The game - Kazareth - has been running for quite some time with long time players that are more then willing to help a newcomer with the crunchy system. We do try to make it easy for a newcomer to learn the system AND the world. We are 5 players strong, and looking for a couple of more. The players are MATURE aged, (35+) though younger folks are welcome. I, the DM, will meet with you online and help you create your character, it does take some time to do. We do not use voice during the game but type, so that we have a record of the games. We are new to roll20 and are very excited about the options it gives us. The Games available in the world are: 1. The main game where the players are the heroes of the world, trying to keep the peoples safe from all manner of evils 2. A game of fantasy 'cops and robbers'. It is played in one city where the players work and live. They are crime fighters of a sort. 3. The newest is a 'settlement' game. This game centers around displaced refugees that are seeking a place to settle, call home and build a new place of safety for themselves. If you are interested, please respond here and I will contact you back!
Hi there, I'd like to know more about your campaign. I have played Rolemaster only a few times in my life, but they have been some of the most interesting situations I've run into. Not necessarily because of the "moment", but the system can make things that are mundane so much more tense. (Like fighting a wild bear!) I have most of the books for new Rolemaster (red hardbound), and used to own the old softcover versions as well (although I have no clue where they are right now). I have created several characters (when I was practicing to learn the system) but have relatively little experience with the system as a whole. I would be available to play over weekends, PST, ideally every other week, for a good six hour session. Keep me posted, Wallace
Hi Wallace, okay so we are using the older version of RM I guess they call that Classic. There are quite a few home rules that we've learned to use. We play Sundays but sometimes play on Tues nights if Sundays don't work for some of us. We do play every week, but sometimes due to RL happenings we have to move it or cancel. The campaign is primarily character driven, there's not ALOT of combat but there is some. It's usually story and character contact that run the sessions. The characters are varied levels we have a couple of higher level and some lower levels. So the levels are from 10th to one that is 20+ the highest is a retired character that came back to the game. We keep a record of the sessions so if you have to miss a week, you will recv that weeks' game so you can read and see what's happening. So far I have: Talya Grimstone a Paladin of Justice Taoric Ryddermaerck a Paladin of Light and Insight Drevail Farhand an Elven Archer Keef Moonsteed a Cavalier All are played by Men. We have borrowed heavily from Tolkien's Races, but there are NO Hobbits. They have just finished a mission to get an item for someone that had their female companions hostage. They are now moving on to delivering those Female companions to their destination. Please ask me anything you'd like to know.
Hi Wendy, I wish I could get a physical copy of those old books. They were rare even when they were being printed. I sorta miss them. :-) Do you know where I might be able to find a PDF copy of them? Are there such things around? (I'll look around if anyone is seeding a torrent of those old books.) I am hoping that Classic and the new Rolemaster are very much alike, so I can use those books as well. I think there may be a little time this weekend for me to have a conversation with you. Is there a good time? I also know that right now I have no chance for Tuesday nights. Work keeps me quite mentally engaged over the week. So, Sundays are really the only time I would be able to commit. Other thoughts: Watching your list of characters, I think I'd like to try a spell caster of some sort. It looks like the group does not have one, and I have never played one in rolemaster before. It would be the equivalent of an arcane caster, focusing on elemental damage spells. Hah, I remember that much. Wallace
One more question: since I don't have both series available, and perhaps you may have seen them together, would *you* happen to know if the new red cover editions of Rolemaster are compatible with the old 1st edition Rolemaster (classic)? Just a thought. I know the content organization is different, but I am hoping they are close enough to interact well.
Hi Wallace the "old" Rolemaster is not at all what the new one is. In the old you purchase skills and magic separately there are no "bundles". We have many house rules as well, the system is of course tweaked to our needs. As to where you can find the books, 4shared might have a listing of them. I'll look around and see if I can find a torrent. I have all the hard copies, We could do some sort of exchange on Dropbox.... What pdf systems do you have?
Hi Wendy, Thanks for the tips. I just found and downloaded the first edition books in PDF format, all in a large torrent. However, I think I've been a bit too "happy" with the campaign search lately and have over-committed. I will put my desire to play a rolemaster game on hold while I allow my new current commitments to settle into a practical calendar. That way I know what I will be able to do. What this means is that I now official withdraw my request to explore your game. I believe I won't have enough hours on a Sunday to join this game and do all the other things I also want to do. When things settle down and I make the time, I hope you still may have an open spot for another player. Until then, Keep rolling low on those crits. :-) Thanks, Wallace
Well I prefer the high crits myself. Understood. Enjoy your new finds.
Hah! Of course, when YOU roll the crits, always high. When the GM rolls the crits against YOU, always low. :-) By the way, do you guys play every Sunday? I have a current game commitment setup for alternating Sundays.

Hi Wendy, do you have any spots left available in your group? I had been on the search for a possible MERP (Middle Earth Role Playing) campaign, by since it's based on Rolemaster, all the better to find you folks. I do not have the rule books but remember the mechanics and if we could set up some kind of Dropbox exchange like you mentioned. all the better.
I'd be interested in trying your group out. I'm an avid text role player and up to learn a new game.
Hey Corey and Scotty. Glad to hear from ya. We are a mature (30 to 50 yrs) group of gamers. What time zones are you in?
I might be interested as well - depending on time and day, of course. I've got MERP, classic RM and the RM Standard rulesets. Veteran gamer btw, age 44 and my hair is now as much silver as gold. Starting playing RPGs in college, back in '89, and RM in one form or another in the early '90s. It's been a bit quiet on the RM front for going on 20 years now, though, so it's good to hear it's still being played. As far as characters goes, a lot will depend on the setting - I enjoy integrating pre-existing lore into my character backgrounds, so I'll need to hear a bit from you and the group before I could start thinking further than that.
I'm 28 and I'm in eastern US timezone
hey i would love to play only just dabbled in table top gaming but i've been told i'm doing well for a newb, only thing i've played is torchbearer but i really want to learn to play a lot of other games i'm 26 but very mature im in the GMT but can be on anytime
If you have a slot open, I'd be up for joining. I'm 28 from a Pacific time zone. I've dabbled in a lot of system and am a bit of an RPG collector. I'm a decent learner, so please hit me up if you have a slot!
Hi Wendy, Do you still have a spot open for this game? My M&M game just dissolved and I find myself on the prowl for a new game. Keep me posted, Wallace
Hey everyone, sorry for the delayed response. We had a death in the family so I've been off line for a bit. Patrick, we play on Sunday's from 11 am to about 3ish PST time. I am actually starting up a new game, where the players are playing folk that are building up a new settlement, so there is room for however many want to play. Now having said that, we do want to make sure that everyone is compatible. I have 3 games on the go, so depending on what folks are interested in playing, there could be room for everyone. The main game is steeped in past gaming play, and has a rich world background where the heroes influence the direction of the game. (played every other Sunday 11 am to 2:30 - 3 ish PST) The second game is a game centred in one city, and the players are crime solvers of a sort. Things happen in cities and the players get to the bottom of the goings on. (The OTHER Sunday's 11am - 2:30 -3 ish PST) The third game is the "settlement" game, where players play folk that have been displaced, and are looking to settle and build a home. (Tues nights 7pm - 10ish PST) If folks are interested in a particular one, please let me know, then we can set up a time for you to meet the players in those games, and figure out how to help you experience play. Again the big thing will be compatibility for play . The crew that plays are very open folk, but my DM style is not for everyone. My games are NOT DM vs Players, my style is more Roleplaying less fighting. I believe that a game is successful if both the players and the DM build the world together. There are battles, but it is not the focus of the games. My role is to enrich the story lines and make it a fun experience. Rolemaster is also a complicated system which we have tweaked to make work for us. It take some real time to create a character so be prepared to be online for a bit of time to get your alter ego created. The books we use are NOT the newer "package" system. We play using the original rules where you buy your skills all separately. Corey, Haydn, Peter and Wallace if any of this sounds good to you, let me know!!
Wendy, I am sorry to hear of your bereavement, and I hope that you will have the support from eachother in your family to get through this together. On a second and less important note, your description of your group's/GM'ing style is very encouraging to me. I'm at heart a storyteller (both as a player and as a GM), and thus much more interested in the social aspects of adventuring, as well as the world lore, than the usual piles of monster corpses and barrels of gold. The days you mentioned are all open for me. I do have games on Saturdays (two campaigns alternating weeks with the same group, so a similar situation as what your group has going on Sundays). Tuesday is free as well, but the time could be slightly awkward, as I'm in the EST time zone; we'd have to see about how to work that out, once it gets that far. As far as the system goes, I'm not too worried. Complexity is not a fear factor for me, and although somewhat rusty, I've played RM sufficiently often in the past that I am sure it'll come back to me. It also helps that I have the rules on hand (books as well as PDFs), so I can re-familiarize myself outside of session time, without inconveniencing anyone. Is there a way where we can talk things over? if you want, you can pm me and we can set stuff up. I have Skype, a Ventrillo server we can use, and TeamSpeak. If you prefer text, we can do that, too.
Hello, I understand. Having a family member pass can be a difficult experience. My condolences on your loss. As Patrick mentioned, I also feel encouraged on your DM style. I do not enjoy "DM vs Player", that is not my preference. Like you, I like to craft a story together with the players, although I do tend to do more battle, and allow the roleplaying to happen when it happens. I'd like to explore your first game, where the game has a rich background history. Based on what I remember you mentioning, I believe I'd like to create a spell caster, perhaps an elementalist of some sort, or maybe a hybrid mage/healer, if such thing is possible. Barring that, I'd love to play a ranger of sorts specializing in archery and hunting. The short play sessions and alternating Sundays schedule will probably work best for me. While I do have a PDF of most of those first edition books, I will probably require your guidance in creating the character as well. Tell me when this may be possible.
Patrick did you have a preference to which game/s you would like to play in? As to finding time to speak with each of you, I do have Paltalk, Skype and ICQ, and I can work within your schedules so if YOU would like to choose a time that works for you, I can certainly try to accommodate it. I play in 3 different campaigns on Wed, Fri and Sunday evenings (makes Sundays very full for me) so I am busy those nights. Many moons ago, I tried to look into Ventrillo but could not make hide nor hair. I also looked at Teamspeak and was just as beyond my depth so that is something I might pick your brain about Patrick.
I've sent you a PM, Wendy. Looking forward to hearing from you.
Hmm... I do have Skype, but I'd like to try something else... just for kicks. I'll play with PalTalk and TeamSpeak. I didn't know people still used ICQ. Do you have any time on Saturday? I live in Los Angeles, so it's PDT.
If you give me a time on Sat I can let you know Wallace.
Well, I don't know how much time you wish to invest into a single session but I can offer anytime on Saturday. How about starting in the morning, say... 10 am?
Well I was thinking to do just a intro and a bit of yap to get a feel for the compatibility, give you a bit of story chat with whom ever shows up to give you some insight. So maybe an hour? We'll use Paltalk then. 10 am is good I'll let the others know and they can sign on if they want to.
Sounds good. I'll make sure I wake up by then. :-) Should I get the cam or is chat enough?
oh no chat is fine. We can even just type if you like. Doesn't need to be voice if you don't want. I'll need your sign on name so I can add you to the room.
The name's "MrKinister".
