Are you an experienced D&D player (any edition, not just 5e) who likes both to play and occasionally DM? Our group of five is seeking a sixth to round out our numbers. This is not for a single campaign; this is for a long-term group whose main mission is to have fun. We play every Friday night starting at 7 p.m. E.D.T. If this sounds good, please read on! Who we are seeking: Since we are a long-term group, we are looking for someone who is willing to make a commitment to playing every week. We want a solid, lasting band of adventurers, so a commitment to regular attendance is important. The ideal person will have a familiarity not only with D&D but with playing on Roll20, be comfortable with role-playing, and have a strong preference for cooperative and challenging play. The abilities to devise tactics and employ strategy as well as using improvisational skills are a plus. The ideal candidate will also be prepared, informed, creative, courteous, and respectful as well as also having a strong sense of humor and the desire to have fun with D&D. We do want someone who can/will DM, has experience, and will treat players as partners in the campaign, but they will not be the only DM in the group. This role will change. Currently, we have two very experienced DM's, another with some experience, and yet another wanting to learn in the future. Who we do not want: Rules lawyers, would-be gods, those encumbered with their own ego, those unwilling or unable to make a commitment to regular participation, and anyone who puts their experience above the group's welfare need not apply. What we play: We play D&D 5e story-driven campaigns, with a mix of tactical combat and role-playing, where your actions or inaction impacts the living world around you. Character deaths will happen, though they should never be the DM's goal. Campaign lengths and settings will vary. Although sometimes the game setting might have some restrictions, most content is usually allowed. We are a flexible group and consider both player and DM input as to what we play. In this and all other matters, we have a strong preference for group input on decisions. The DM does, of course, have a greater sway, but they are not treated as gods. Cooperative play involves the entire group and campaigns should be viewed as collective story-telling endeavors. We want everyone to enjoy themselves. We use Discord in addition to Roll20. Taking the next step: If you are interested, please take a moment to tell us something about yourself either below or via DM as you like. We are interested in YOU, not your character. The character you play will change, but *your* character should be stable. Should you have a particular concern or question, or would like to know more about us, please ask. If you are selected initially, I will send you some questions to answer. You may then be asked to speak with either me or another group member. We are trying to find the person who will be the best fit. If you are not selected, please do not take it personally. It may be that it is just not the right fit for now.
I'd just like to add we're a mature group of players who range in experience from decades to a couple of years. We've talked about doing a kind of round robin with DMs and campaigns where we switch story lines. That way if something comes up and a DM finds it hard to get the time to prepare a session it's possible another player could take over with their campaign.
How long do you guys normally play? And is that a hard 7pm start time? I'm currently a 7pm start time game at the moment and it's rough to be asleep at 11pm and up by 3am.
Atleast 3 of us are on EST so I think meeting earlier would be difficult, jobs etc. I feel like 4 hours is sort of a standard, tho we have run longer. Getting up at 3am would be very rough(i'd never ask that of anyone), I'd understand if that wasn't workable.
Hello! I'm not a DM so I'm not sure if this will flat out deny me for being able to play, but I fit the criteria for every other requirement! I'm familiar with D&D, comfortable with it and Roll20, and can make the 7PM EDT easily.
Yea gonna have to pass. Thanks for the offer.
