If you put the map on the Map Layer, the grid should appear over it. If the map is dark, you may not be able to see it, but in the page settings you can change the color and/or opacity of the grid.
Or, If you want to put a grid on there without enabling the grid feature (because you don't want to snap to grid, for instance) - simply add an image of a grid with a transparent background over the top of it onto the same layer.
