Hey I am looking for roughly 8 players for d+d 3.5 on Saturday nights

Hey I am thinking of trying out this software this Saturday night. I would like to shoot for 8 players if we can manage it. If you are interested just post a quick little character bio in the discussion here, looking for level 1 so don't get to carried away please. EDIT 6/12/12: Obviously there is quite a bit of interest and we may be a few over the eight I asked for, we will have to see who shows up on Saturday. For those of you who entered character info when you posted, thank you. /thumbs up For those who said that they would like to play I will send you a message, please reply with a short character bio (class/race/background) not to hard. I have a campaign intro for you all: You have all ended up in the town of Hayesfield a small coastal town that is used as a summer retreat by several affluent wealthy families. Most of you are employed or conscripted into the town militia due to a recent conflict with orcs to the north. Unfortunately it is upon you to protect the town during the harvest festival (think Halloween) while most of the towns militia is off fighting orcs. (Some of you may have grown up there while others may have just ended up there. We can sort that out later.) I will provide a link for you all to join the session 30 mins before game time on Saturday (7 PM Central) let me know if you have any questions.
This is going to be my first game ever, so are you ok with a simple character name and job? I am looking to play a game of fun and good cheer, nothing deathly serious; savvy?
Actually (embarrassingly) I have never played DnD. I would really like to play on this Saturday, but I don't know the rules or anything like that, so if you could explain how a character bio works or anything like that I would appreciate it. I am downloading a pdf of the 3.5 DM guide, but I don't know how helpful that is. I would hope that it would help me learn the rules of DnD, so I don't think I will need you to explain the rules or anything. I am sort of typing this as I go, but if you could understand that please help me :D
A new player? That sounds great I love new players. What kind of class were you looking at? Do you have the books? And if you don't want to throw out a background thats fine too.
I may be interested if there's nothing else going on for me. And Ryan, you should download the Player's Handbook instead of the DM guide. PH has the rules and everything you need to build a character.
FYI for anyone who is new to D+D. You need the players guide and you need to read up on how to make a character. If I have time I may run a brief combat session on Thursday just to teach people how combat is done. Let me know if you want to attend that as well.
I'm interested, have played a few campaigns of 3.5 but my group has long since disbanded. (I live in a small college town). Since I usually play rogues I was thinking of trying a monk or a fighter. I have pdfs of all the books
I would really like to do this. I'd like to play a sorcerer or a cleric, depending on what the party needs. Some questions: How are we building characters? (point buy, rolling, etc.) Are any supplements being used, or are we just doing basic 3.5? Any idea on the general campaign layout? (in regard to favored enemies and whatnot)
Also, I don't know if you've lead an 8 player campaign before, but it takes forever to get anything done (in my experience).
I would absolutely love to play, my last group at the local card shop fell apart some I'm looking for people to play with. Just sorta mad at myself for not getting my books out of storage when I was home from college the other week. I've thought about trying out a Spirit Shaman Rathmorne Stormbeard-Dwarf He was once a Hammer, like his brother, but after a band of orcs slew a hold he was posted at he left the ranks of the Allfather's arm to lead spirits from this life to the next, starting with those freshly slain at Kun'Argkor. Or I could always just be a fighter, would love to be a monk but those never seemed super useful.
YES I've been looking to play for awhile; I haven't played D&D but I've done other systems and I feel a bit weird having not played it yet. Player's Handbook? Should I find a copy or just download it?
Experienced player is experienced. I'd be willing to give it a shot. What would be our starting level, class and race restriction, etc.? I've got all the core 3.5e books and many supplements. I currently DM and am looking for a consistent group to be a PC in. Marcon Turnpen Human Wizard Marcon is a scribe who worked for a wizard through out his youth. He slowly absorbed his master's teachings and developed a knack for scroll writing. His master has recently passed away, and Marcon finally feels ready to put his teachings to the test. Armed with the knowledge of his master, he sets out from his humble village.
I would love to have a game. Haven't played in a few months and would be good fun. Details would be good when you figure out what you're doing. Time, which rulebooks for characters if you want us to roll our own etc. Actually (embarrassingly) I have never played DnD. Try getting hold of Players Handbook 1, this has all the rules a player needs to begin playing, rolling a character, basic races and classes and the sort. If you're willing to dive a bit deeper in on your first go the "Complete" series of D&Dv3.5 books are pretty good to look at as well as Handbook 2.
So I got the PDF for the DND players guide, and I have a question. So, say a human or an elf or something like that was adventuring along, and then... well I will skip that... and 9 months later, she had a half lizard/half human or half lizard/half elf would this be an acceptable race to play? So basically, they would have scales and look pretty lizard like, except they walked on two legs and had thumbs. Could this be a playable race? EDIT: Scales not skills

D&D is a very flexible game in that way, it just all depends on the GM you play with. Some GMs will want it to be all "Vanilla" shall we say. Plain, and to the book, others will let you look at the more broader books that aren't standard Wizard of the coast (WOTC) books, and some will even let you, with help and guidance to make sure you're not over or underpowered make your own races, classes or items. tl;dr: Depends on the GM you're playing with.
I am pretty sure you already have eight people that have commented here, but if you have room I am another new player that is interested in playing.

So, if I had an awesome DM, I could be a freaking pterodactyl? Or, or, or.... even the... the... dare i say it?.... the... the... BEARODACTYL?!
I'd love to play a low level game as it's been quite some time since I've been in a good campaign. I typically prefer low fantasy medieval-ish type of settings, but anything will be fun really. Grimmon Sword Human Fighter/Rogue True Neutral As it is, growing up the fifth son of a potato farmer doesn't exactly offer someone great options in the terms of their own life. But when that is even taken from Grimmon in his early teens, he does what he must to get by. Through necessity, he learns to steal and fight on the streets and never stays in one place for too long. When the opportunity of being a sellsword on a ship arose, he did not hesitate to accept. For three years he plundered and did as he pleased under the command of his captain. In a vicious battle on shore, his captain was captured. Rather than fight, he fled and took what goods he could with him, now looking for the next opportunity to make some quick copper.
There is actually an expansion or something that includes the ability to make creatures player characters. Like, centaurs, satyrs, dragons, pretty much anything intelligent. There are several species of lizard people (troglodytes, kobolds, lizard men), and you could base a character off of those if the DM lets you. It would be up to the DM to decide if you could fit that in. I would suggest playing a standard race (fyi, half-elves suck in 3.5) as your first character, though. Learn the game before getting ridiculous.
Richard Malfure Troglodyte Druid When growing up, everybody in his village would mock him for having a human mother, but no father, and he being half lizard half man. At 14 Richard's mother died do to a poison she ingested, and Richard turned to the forest for comfort. As he grew up he became "one with the forest" and wanted to explore the world to see all the different types of forests.
So, since someone's jumped in with wizard, I suppose I'll go cleric. Healbot! Alys Arroway Neutral good Human Cleric of Pelor, god of the sun Healing domain Strength domain Alys was a war orphan, taken in by the church of Pelor and raised to be a good warrior nun. Cloistered life turned out to be astonishingly boring, however, and she wanted the opportunity to actually use her knowledge to help people, rather than spend her time in quiet meditation. She left the cloister to fight evil and spread the good word of Pelor. (I will probably not be evangelizing for Pelor in-game, but I feel it makes sense as backstory. I'm imagining this character as shiny and blonde in white armor with orange suns everywhere and a big mace and shield. Good at healing, also good at killing things when needed.)
Troglodytes have a +2 level adjustment, so a level 1 troglodyte is a level 3 character. It would be overpowered in a party of level 1 characters. You would have to work that out with the DM. I would still suggest playing a standard race for your first game.
Lizardfolk are probably a better choice. They only have a +1 level adjustment, which is easier to work with. (you could just skip a level up when we go to level 2, then you'd be equal with the rest of the party. Again, this is all up to the DM.)

Is there any Lizard people that wouldn't have a level adjustment? If so, I will edit my previous post to that.
I'm afraid in addition to level adjustments, those races also have racial hit dice, which also increase their starting level (unless the DM will make lesser versions for you). The only lizard-like race that doesn't have racial hit-dice or a level adjustment is the kobold.
Is there any Lizard people that wouldn't have a level adjustment? If so, I will edit my previous post to that. No. Pretty much all "creatures as characters" have level adjustments. They also get certain stat bonuses and penalties. If you download a copy of the Monster Manual you can see for yourself. You can work out something with the DM if you really want to play a lizardman stat-wise, or you can just use a human template and role-play lizardman. This all comes down to the DM, though.
The only lizard-like race that doesn't have racial hit-dice or a level adjustment is the kobold. And kobolds are tiny and they suck. You don't want to be a kobold.
Wait a second... where is the DM? Is Joe (OP) planning on being the DM? If so why did he just abandon his thread? So many questions so little time.
Wait a second... where is the DM? Is Joe (OP) planning on being the DM? If so why did he just abandon his thread? So many questions so little time. Yeah, Joe is the DM, I'm assuming. Maybe he's busy or something.
Any room for one more? I'm a newer player, I've played a few games before but it's been a while.
OP whereth art thee?
probably too late to join but I'm a brand new player I just got the player guide and I'm reading it over now. If anyone wants me to join that would be awesome, I have video if that makes a difference, if yo guys don't want me but know someone who does let me or them know. I can't wait to give it a go none of my friends play and I won't be able to DM them til I get a few games in as a player.
Just a quick update before I head to work here. I have years of experience as GM. If you think having 8 players online is bad you should try it when they are all trying to talk over each other in the same room ;) You can use almost any supplement you want, I am thinking of throwing this in forgotten realms but have not decided yet. You can play a race with a level adj. but I would like a good explanation as to why you would be in a small human village, feel free to send me a message about it. Also I will pair down your abilities and just grant you more until the group reaches your ECL. So far great response, it looks like we are on for this Saturday, if you want some practice this Thursday please send me a message.
PS- If you are worried about whether I have hit 8 players so far do not. Please just show up, stuff happens, people drop or can't make it or leave early. If anything you can spectate for a while.
Wait a second... where is the DM? Is Joe (OP) planning on being the DM? If so why did he just abandon his thread? So many questions so little time. Please refrain from stating that I "abandoned" the thread just cause I didn't respond immedeatly. People looking at this discussion may get the wrong idea and think its dead. Thank you
Taedrial the Traveler human/monk The tale of Taedrial the Traveler is secret best kept close. My home life was little more than horrid. Watching you father go in and out of insanity is tough for a 14 year old farm boy. His episodes grew in length and intensity. At first is was forgetfulness, but over the summer it grew into fits of rage and violence. The end of one normal day turned into one forgettable evening. Coming home from the field i saw the front door open i knew something was wrong, cause my mother would strip your hide for letting the dog in the house. Well stripped hide is exactly what i saw. My brother and sister dead on the floor stripped off every inch of skin, blood everywhere, and my mother moaning as my father knelt over her ripping her skin off with his teeth. I opend my mouth to scream but the only thing that came out was vomit. Coming back to my senses i reached to my leg and removed my knife and slit my own fathers neck. No family, confused, terrified. I ran, and ran and ran. To this day i am still running. From what? a fear of following in my fathers steps. To what? Answers. What answers? Not sure what the question is. The life of a monk was the one chosen for the hope of enlightenment. lol not a big bio writer. very interested in playing. i played the original dnd. never 3.5. just want to play so bad. can mostlikely get in a game on sat. been looking for an awesome program like roll20. hope all goes well.

Oh I almost forgot, I will send a link on Thursday night as well for the practice session I will run. That will also be at 7PM Central.
Is there still room in this game? And kobolds are tiny and they suck. You don't want to be a kobold. Kobolds are hilarious . Just remember if you play one not to be a class that relies on physical attacks to do damage (which is basically all non-spellcasters).
Hey, was wondering if there's still room left in the group and if there was a possibility of playing?
Here is a link for the practice run on Thursday: https://app.roll20.net/join/9629/A0nZ7w Let me know if that works for anyone, I am still uncertain if I need to be logged in or not.
Hey, was wondering if there's still room left in the group and if there was a possibility of playing? Hey Brendan I will shoot a quick message in a little bit ok.
Update 6/12/12- It looks like we have our 8, thank you everyone for the great responses.
By the way, the character description I forgot to upload earlier: Theo Therix Gnome Wizard (Illusion specialty) Chaotic Good After spending much of his life as an apprentice wizard, Theo had finally grown tired of life with his competent but dreadfully boring master. Packing his belongings, he set out to seek a life of GLORY and ADVENTURE. Glory and adventure that failed to materialize as promptly as he had been expecting. So there he was, wandering aimlessly through yet another patch of human countryside, when he came across this town recruiting for some fight involving orcs...
One evening while meditating quietly in the dark, Taedrial the Traveler felt the presence of a creature near by. He quietly rose up and saw a really tiny thing with a funny had and crooked walking stick. Intrigued, and constantly seeking enlightenment Taedrial followed this curiously attired creature to the outskirts of a town.
When all of a sudden a mighty "lets not turn this into a play by post thread" rock comes hurtling out of the sky and strikes Taedrial on the head knocking him unconscious for a fortnight. If only he had read the sign but a kings mile back prohibiting such actions. Hehe, but seriously I can open up a flavor thread later, this is the lfg section.
Can I hop in? Half Elf Druid Support Neutral Good
If there is still room I'm a new player looking for a game
Wakes up with a headache. Sorry :)
