Another confused noob. Lost my progress. How to save?

I saw this has been addressed but I'm struggling with the steep learning curve and I just started.  I was progressing through a game journal and I left for a week and came back and it's not loading where I left off.  It's loading from the start.  Please advise.  How do I save progress? Thank you.
Hello, Welcome on Roll20 Edwin H. Progression is saved automatically, no action is needed. You resume the adventure where you left. Best practice is to exit the game correctly by hitting the 'Exit Game' button in 'My Settings' menu but I think this not the issue here. To help identifying your problem, - can you provide the name of the game or specify if it is a game you created or joined? - do you play as a player or as a GM? Do the other players experienced the same issue? - what do you mean by "progressing through a game journal "? Maybe this is no the issue you are experiencing but, sometimes, when we resume a game, all folders in the Journal section are open and we have to close each manually. Except from the fact it is annoying, this is have no impact on the adventure.
Thank you, and sure. I started with the Call of Cthulhu Starter Set, "Alone against the Flames" starter and I named my first game "Sol." I am learning to GM and it's solo.  There are not any other players... yet. I'm accessing "Alone against the Flames" by reading it in the Journal tab on the right side of the window.  The journal is teaching me how to play as it sets the scene for the game and it progress a lot like a choose your own adventure story.  Make a check and if passed go to journal entry X otherwise go to journal entry Y.  I was up to the part where I was being advised to choose skills.  That's when I had to stop last time.  And when I took up the game again the open journal entries were all closed so I didn't know where I was any more. Thanks for the guidance.  Can't wait to learn more!
So... Can anyone help explain why when I log out and log back my progress is lost?

All of your journal handouts and character sheets will be closed when you return.  When creating handouts, if you do not save before closing, the work done since opening it will be lost.  You could create a handout and make a note of where you left off if making your way through something.
Hello Edwin H., sorry for not answering you. I forgot to follow this topic so I lost track of it. Patrick is 100% right, the best move here is to create a handout. To make things even easier, once you reach a new journal entry, put its title into your handout and add brackets around it to convert it into a link once save your handout. (ex: "Chapter 4: choose your skills" becomes "[Chapter 4: choose your skills]"). If you do not want to lose your handout among another journal entries, you can leave it in top of the Journal tab or make a macro to call it from the VTT: In Journal tab, click "Add" -&gt; "Handout" - name the handout (ex: Bookmarks) - in 'descriptions and notes' field write the name of the handout into brackets (ex: [Bookmarks]) - save the handout - right-click on the "Bookmarks" underlined pink link and select "copy url" In Collections tab, click "Add" macro: - name the macro (ex: Resume-reading) - add following lines in 'actions' field: /w gm click [here to resume reading](<a href="http://journal.roll20.net/handout/" rel="nofollow">http://journal.roll20.net/handout/</a> ) - after "handout/" right-click and select "paste" (the line should now looks like: <a href="http://journal.roll20.net/handout/-M5V__fgb1G65aAqXBhuf" rel="nofollow">http://journal.roll20.net/handout/-M5V__fgb1G65aAqXBhuf</a> ) - save the macro In Collection tab, near your macro, have the checkbox "In bar" checked Now you can click the [Resume-reading] button on the VTT to call back your Bookmark handout. Once you reach another journal entry, do not forget to put its title into brackets in your Bookmark handout to be able to resume your reading later. Again, sorry for not answering you in time.
Aha.&nbsp; Got it! (At least the first part of it).&nbsp; Thank you.
