Warhammer FRP Second edition game Looking for Players (new players welcome)

*Edit* I am going to try to run session this Friday 8 PM EDT if I can get at least 2 players. It's not a huge deal if you miss this first session. My campaign allows people to drop in and out. Ten Questions - Answer these to get a rough idea of what your character is like. No need to go into a ton of detail if you don't feel like it. Send these to me as soon as I get the campaign page up later today. Where are you from? What is your family like? What is your social class? What did you do before you traveled to Travorn? (Explain your childhood and/or career so far) Why did you become an adventurer / why are you specifically going to Travorn? How religious are you? Who are your best friends and worst enemies? What are your prized possessions? Who are you loyal to? Who do you love/hate? You can use the following website to create starter characters for the game. You can create a random character, choose a career path or a specific career. *Edit* Let me know if you are using another book to create your character. There are advanced optional rules in Career Compendium that I never use because I don't own that physical book. /*E d it* http://silverghost.dyndns.org/wfrp/ I try to run my campaign so every character class is useful. Once you have picked a career take one free starting advance. The starting advance is +5% to any of your starting characteristics that you can raise within your class (the stats that have numbers beneath them) You adjust your current values. Or it's a +1 to any of your secondary characteristics that you can raise within your career. Like Wounds (W) in the second row. Warhammer works on a percentile system. Your character has numbers that represent their skills. To do most things you will roll a d100 and hope that you can roll lower than your skill value. In my game rolling a 100 or double zeros for skills is always the best thing that can happen. Rolling a 99 is the worst. I find this makes the game slightly less erratic and some skills and weapons much more useful. (Some tables I have for stuff like items and encounters are completely random so the guy who always rolls 80s can have some good stuff happen to him) If you are completely new to the system I can help run your character. You can decide what you want to do and I can translate that into game terms. The original Warhammer had some strategy involved with combat but sometimes it's simply too easy or too hard. I try to reward creative thinking and problem solving in my game. End *Edit* Hey I am interested in running a custom Warhammer FRP game. My normal game is on hiatus after a year of playing and I don't want my GM skills to get rusty as I am planning out new senarios. I am using slightly tweaked second edition rules. Simplified a lot of stuff. The campaign is set in the Border Princes. I am interested to see how random players will react to it. I will get into more detail if anyone out there is interested. If there is any interest please reply to this and let me know when you can play. I am looking mostly at evening sessions on the weekend. *Edit* I going on EDT. I am looking mostly at Friday evening or Saturday and Sunday anytime. There is no consensus on times yet. Everyone in similar time zones all have different days free. I am going to throw out Friday 8 PM EDT and see if we get anyone else interested at that time. Thanks.
Would very much like to join if possible.
I'm a WHFRPG addict, so I'd love to play. However my availability right now is either weekdays daytime before 2pm or Tu/Fr nights after 7 Central (-6). Lemme know if that works for you. :)
If it's a Saturday night game I might be interested
Would also be interested in joining. Sunday evening GMT is best but could move things around a bit to fit.
Well I am on EDT here. The times that are best for me right now are Friday, Saturday or Sunday Evenings. I can do weekday evenings but it seems like people are more interested in weekend times. Unfortunately it seems like we don't have any sort of consensus on a day. Since I am on EDT Widgetman you would have to start out really late on Sunday even if we started early evening. (I should have noted my time zone in the original post) Star do you happen to have a preference when it come to day and time?
I might could get a Sat or Sun game pass, especially if it were every 2 weeks. My wife is a teacher, and she is almost completely unavailable weekdays, from wake up to crash in bed. So she's jealous of my weekends.
Friday at 4pm wold be good for me, as im gmt+0 so it seems like a good compromise for both of us. But i can try and shuffle things round if another time is better.
Well unfortunately that translates to noon on Friday to me and that isn't going to work out.
Sorry meant to put that as 4pm EDT. And 8pm on my end.
Still won't work for me since I don't get out of work on Friday until 5 PM EDT. I am certainly up for running a game on a Sat or Sun afternoon for people in the GMT time zones if I hear from more people. Right now however, there is still no consensus about days or times. Everyone from similar time zones has different days free. So again I am free anytime on Sat and Sun and Evenings on Friday. But I am going throw up a time of Friday at 8 PM EDT as a possibility. That will match with Ty M.'s schedule and I will see if anyone else is interested. I am just awful at time zones.
8pm Edt friday sounds good for me. And as i said any day at the weekend is good for me.
I'm on EDT here and would love a shot at another WFRP game! Always been my preferred system of choice for fantasy (1st and 2nd that is) and I'm a big fan of the lore. I'm fairly open schedule wise; but my preferences would be either Sunday, Tuesday or Thursday evenings. That said, I would be open to Fridays but Mon, Weds and Saturday would be out for me unless it were a Saturday afternoon game that only ran a couple of times a month.
All right it seems like there are at least 2 people that are able to do Friday 8 PM EDT. (And maybe Kevin) I am interested in starting out this Friday if there at least 2 people are able to play on such short notice. People can drop in and out as the game progresses. Kevin (and anyone else that is familiar to the Warhammer setting) I want to give you a head's up that this is a very custom made Warhammer campaign so it's a very similar dangerous setting but jumping to conclusions based on previous experience might not work out that well.
Woot! I'll get busy building a character tonight/tomorrow. :)
Yeah. Everyone interested can use the link at the top to come up with a character. Since this is the Border Princes there are no limits on the type of character or career that you can to start out on. However, the characters in this party are encouraged to be able to cooperate to a certain extent. For reasons that you can come up with your character is traveling towards a town named Travorn. It's a larger city that failed as a trading hub but recently reports have come out that large deposits of silver have been discovered near there.
That link does not give a full list of careers if you choose elf. Can I generate one on my own, and link the pdf for you?
Awesome! Look forward to it! 1 free advance to start with or just straight up beginning characters? I know you said it was a custom setting...so be generic in back story I take it?
Ty M. said: That link does not give a full list of careers if you choose elf. Can I generate one on my own, and link the pdf for you? Yes that would be fine. You already know the game and there are some careers that aren't there. I am just using that site because it's very easy for new players to generate a character with it. Kevin H. said: Awesome! Look forward to it! 1 free advance to start with or just straight up beginning characters? I know you said it was a custom setting...so be generic in back story I take it? You can be as specific as you want in terms of character stuff. I actually am really lazy and haven't narrowed down the official dates of when this campaign takes place in the Warhammer World. Everything in the core rulebooks and setting is included in this setting. I just kind of put my own stuff on top of that. There are organizations and powerful beings around that are built around the original setting. I just had issues with a past player who kept on guessing what was going on based on his past Warhammer games.
I am able to do this Friday as well, I am new to all this but it seems as if it's something new for everyone. I am on the same time as you so there's no problem there. I'll get started on my character with the link provided. :).
Kevin H. said: Awesome! Look forward to it! 1 free advance to start with or just straight up beginning characters? I will give you the one free advance that all starting characters in the regular game get as well as the starting trappings your career has. I think the starting advance thing is pretty standard and makes sense. The starting advance is +5% to any of your starting characteristics that you can raise within your class (the stats that have numbers beneath them) Or it's a +1 to any of your secondary characteristics that you can raise within your career.
Terrell W. said: I am able to do this Friday as well, I am new to all this but it seems as if it's something new for everyone Warhammer is a pretty simple system to pick up, but it can get a bit complicated when it comes to some things. If you have any questions let me know. I am pretty sure the rest of these people can answer some questions too. I built my tweaks and whatnot on the base system.
Again guys I don't want to give you the wrong impression about the game mechanics. I have tweaked the system a bit but generally all that stuff is on my end as the GM. A person who has played second edition probably won't think of this as a much different game mechanically. Bind a 1d100 roll and a 1d10 roll in roll20 since that is what you will be rolling mostly. I will have the roll20 campaign page up momentarily.
Hey I played the 2nd edition years ago and loved it but was never able to continue, I cant say I remember all the rules or how to play it but if you need more players im more than happy to come along ^^, tho I would only be able to do sunday runs :( I work fridays and saturdays 4pm till midnight GMT tho I would join after work if the timezones work out well to do that i get home around 1am ish. Oh also I never have used this roll20 program before so might need some help navigating it, only signed up yesterday :).
So I am assuming the best way to have people join the game is to just post the campaign link here? With my last campaign I just sent out the link via email. So if you can make it on this Friday 8 PM EDT here is the link. https://app.roll20.net/join/95571/yybwbQ Also if you have a character token you want to use then share a link here. I would rather use portrait tokens rather than the full body token things for this game.
PDT or EDT for start time? Will get my character over to you a little bit after work today (unless I can polish him off during lunch)
I am in CDT so I am only an hour off from you, and I think that'd probably work fine for me. I don't have any experience with the WHFRP systems so I'd need a little hand-holding. I'm also not too familiar with the lore... If that's a problem and I'm a little too green, it's fine. But I'm definitely interested in trying out something new.
Kevin H. said: PDT or EDT for start time? Will get my character over to you a little bit after work today (unless I can polish him off during lunch) 8 PM EDT. I don't know how I made that mistake with my last post.
Evan said: I don't have any experience with the WHFRP systems so I'd need a little hand-holding. I'm also not too familiar with the lore. Warhammer is a medieval setting where most people are pretty ignorant about what is going on. Knowledge that is considered common in some areas is considered mere myth or nonsense in others. Not knowing the lore isn't a huge issue.
Meant to ask you...what's the starting money for us? You ok with us buying a few things out of that starting coin?
Yeah it's the normal starting setup for characters. Each character gets all their starting trappings from their first career. This can include armor and even horses. (Or a small but vicious dog) Each character gets a hand weapon that can be anything they want it to be. But it's just going to do SB damage with no special qualities. So you can say your character has a finely crafted sword but it's going to act like a normal hand weapon until you can get it upgraded or replaced. Each character gets a dagger, common clothes, a tattered cloak, a poor quality slingbag (or backpack), a poor quality blanket and eating utensils. Each character has about 2 days food left after their travels through the Border Princes. This food can be trail rations, dried goods or edible things foraged from the forests surrounding Travorn. You also get 2d10 Gold coins to start out with. This money represents your life savings up to this point. If you have a very good reason why your character would buy something special with this money before they set off to the Border Princes then that is fine. However it has to make sense that your character be able to purchase that item. If it's something really rare or magical then you will have to make some rolls to see if you can find a place to buy it. Also I know people love the weird exchange rate of coins in Warhammer but I I am just going to run it as 100 copper = 10 Silver = 1 Gold coin. Since this is the Border Princes exchange rates are kept very simple. You might run into special money that is actually worth a bit more. You might run into badly milled coins that are worth less or even worthless.
