is a Vistani fencer and showman. Until recently, he was a happy Vistani
fencer and showman. He traveled the world practicing his swordplay,
which was wholly unremarkable swordplay, if he's honest. He studied
magic under the ritual master of his clan, which was wholly unremarkable
magic, if he's honest. He traveled the world, researching and recording
all the knowledge he could find for his book, which was a wholly remarkable book, if he's honest. Then,
not more than two weeks after his 18th birthday, on the day he's to set
out for his Jaunt, two very strange things happened to Jack. The first
is the disappearance of the ritual master, who simply vanished; her
squat rolling house was locked from the inside with the Arcane Lock
ritual, except there was no ritualist inside. Secondly, there was a ghost in his head. A
ghost that promised power, magic, and secrets. A ghost that said it
would help Jack find the missing ritualist. A ghost that promised that
all it wanted in return was a chance to redeem itself. A ghost
of a powerful and unspeakably evil Vistani exile from ages long past,
imprisoned and tormented by the foul, dreadful curses that only dying
Vistani dare utter. A fact Jack would have liked very much to have known before he made the pact he made.
