New player, DnD 3.5, anyone mind teaching me the ropes?

 So yeah, I've googled/watched/read some things on DnD and was interested in learning how to play it and starting up a game with some other people. I have experience roleplaying text-based on forums, my only issue is learning the rules and maybe a bit on how to make a character. Any group with enough patience to keep me along and teach me a few things would be appreciated highly. Heck, I don't even need to play a campaign with you if you don't want me to. I just need someone to go over the basics with me so I won't end up doing stupid stuff when I join someone else's. I'm EST, so best times for me are gonna be 6:00PM EST on Tuesdays and Thursdays, as well as 7:00PM EST on Saturday and almost any time on Sunday.

But I'm sure I can make it.  I've glanced at a few interactive character charts and tried filling them out, (was looking at ranger) and I'm starting to slowly understand this a bit.
