[FREE] [LFP] [D&D5E] The Red Ship

Every ten years, the Red Ship puts into port in the lands of your birth. Its silent sailors, dressed in rust-colored robes, bring a launch to the beach or quay and, after turning away hundreds, accept a single person to join them on their journey. What becomes of the Red Ship’s passengers, none can say, for none have ever returned to the places they once called home. Yet, despite this, men and women queue to draw this cosmic lot every decade, a singular chance to see where the mystery of the Red Ship leads. This time, the sailors have chosen you. Welcome aboard... “The Red Ship” will be a short campaign for D&D 5E; I’m expecting it to run somewhere around nine or ten sessions, plus a Session Zero for character creation and general discussion. The setting, as I’ll laughingly call it, is one of my own devising, and the general tone of the game will be “multiversal mystery tour,” more in the vein of writers like Michael Moorcock or Jack Vance, and less about the “clomping foot of nerdism” (Google it). This will not be a combat-centric game; it will not be a roleplay-centric game. My hope is that it will be a player-centric game; that is to say, players’ decisions should guide the game, so if you like roleplay-centric games, do your best to roleplay, and I’ll do my best to respond to that as a DM. Similarly, if you like combat, guide part of the story in that direction, and I can work to accommodate that. If the game is not trending in the direction that you would like it to, it is your responsibility as a player to inject more of what you want to see into the game, and it’s my responsibility as a DM to facilitate your fun (up to a point, swinging fists and noses and all…). All of the usual “don’t be a dick” guidelines apply: If you decide to join the game, please show up to the game. This is D&D on Roll20, and there are eighty people behind you waiting for this spot; don’t shit on them by taking a slot you don’t plan on using. Work with the group, not against them; “it’s what my character would do” is not an excuse to make other people at the table miserable. It shouldn’t have to be said in the 21st century, but you’re welcome to join us, regardless of your race, gender, orientation, etc. If you’re the sort of person who’s aghast at the idea of playing D&D with brown or queer people… kindly fuck off. On a personal note, I will request that you be at least 21 years old; otherwise, I’m old enough to be your dad, and I’m not looking to give off the “creepy uncle games with 15-year-old strangers” vibe. On a technical note, we'll be using Discord for voice, and Roll20 for the VTT (I've recently learned that Discord is a lot more reliable than the built-in voice options for Roll20). The game itself can be found here: https://app.roll20.net/lfg/listing/225646/the-red-ship About me: 43-year-old hetero white guy here. I’ve been into RPGs for a little over 30 years now, most of that time spent GMing (I say GMing, not DMing, because I tend to run more not-D&D games than D&D games), but I’m very green when it comes to the Roll20 application, so don’t expect a lot of technological bells and whistles (a battlemat and a handful of wet-erase markers has always worked for me in the past, no reason it shouldn’t now…). Big fan of British New Wave fantasy and ‘70s prog-rock, and that should tell you what sort of direction this game is going in…
Bumping this because we just had a player drop out... Our Session Zero is this Sunday (the 17th), so if you join now, you won't have missed a thing, and will be coming in fresh at the same time as everyone else.
Hi, Is there still room to join? I've never played but am familiar with the rules and mechanics of D&D. I'm flexible in terms of schedule. Thanks!
