Nestled in the northern shadow of the Sword Mountains, the small frontier town of Phandalin has seen a steady influx of settlers from the cities of Waterdeep and Neverwinter over the past few years. Initially drawn by reports of gold and platinum in the region, the new settlement is now home to a small, but thriving community of farmers, woodcutters, fur traders, and prospectors. But this recent prosperity is now in jeopardy, as reports of strife in the region have increased of late. Caravans have been attacked along the Triboar Trail, orcs have been spotted closer to settled lands, and other wilder tales are now commonplace in the taprooms of Stonehill Inn and The Sleeping Giant. Some folk even claim to have seen a dragon soaring in the skies above the Sword Mountains. Ill tidings indeed! But ill tidings such as these serve as a beacon to those who hear the Call to Adventure! And as such, small groups of adventurers now converge on Phandalin, in search of fame, fortune, and glory! Dragon of Icespire Peak, a 5th edition Dungeons and Dragons campaign in the world of the Forgotten Realms Hello, and thank you for interest in this upcoming campaign! The following information will provide additional details that will help you determine whether this game might be a good fit for you, and if so, how to apply for one of the four to five player slots. Who: This game will be geared toward all playing experience levels--everyone from absolute beginner to veteran players are encouraged to submit request to join applications. Now, a bit about myself, to give you an idea of what you can expect of me as a Dungeon Master. My name is Shane. I am 48 years old, married and have two kids. I have been playing RPGs since 1984, most of that time as a DM. I tend to prefer less crunchy games and am not really that interested in tinkering with mechanics, character builds, and that sort of thing. I tend to run games rules as written, but am not afraid to make up a ruling on the fly to keep the game moving. My favorite aspects of RPGs are shared storytelling, problem solving, and action. I like to roleplay NPC interactions, etc. but I am not a voice actor. I do what I can with my limited “acting” abilities and often use my own voice while playing NPCs. I also like to joke and laugh while playing and appreciate good puns, plays on words, etc. Finally, as a Dungeon Master, I want the players to succeed, but I won’t make it easy on them. My goal is to have the players sweat a little bit and then have them snatch victory from the jaws of defeat at the last moment. Of course not every scenario is a nail-biter, but you get the idea. What: This game will use standard 5th edition D&D rules and won't include homebrew material or house rules.
