Mithlond (Grey Havens) Type: Twin Cities. Inhabitants: 50% Silvan Elvish, 40% Sinda, 10% Noldo. Population: 2,200 Origin: Founded by Cirdan after the Fall of Beleriand. Purpose: The manufacture of ships; a departure point for Elves leaving Middle-earth. Symbol: A White Pelannun on a Blue' Field     Two harbors, Mithannunlond on the west shore of the Gulf of Lhun and Mithronalond on the east, make up the city. Traffic across the Gulf in swift and graceful Elven craft is quite regular. At night, the lanterns on the prows of Elven craft make the Gulf dance with sparkling lights.  As with most Elf-cities, Mithlond is a place of magic and beauty. Most Men avoid Mithlond our of fear, and the Elves see little reason to meddle in the petty affairs of mortal races. However, Mithlond is an open city, and the Elves would not turn away an honest traveler who sought their gates, although their welcome might appear cool to those not versed in their ways,     Mithlond lies just beyond the borders of the Shire and Arthedain proper as twin cities astride the long Firth of Lhun. Chief harbor and western refuge of the Elves, the Havens are ruled by the legendary Cirdan the Shipwright, hero of the Last Alliance and other battles. Here, some 600 years ago, the lstari first set foot upon the soil of Middle-earth; and here also, Cirdan gave Gandalf the Ring of Fire called Narya. (Cirdan foretold the coming of the Wizards and trusted Gandalf alone with the magical Elf-ring. The Grey Havens beckon to all High Elves, for it is from these harbors that many sail west, leaving behind forever the weariness and worries of life on Middle·earth.
