Scifi GM looking for Other GMs

It seems all I do is GM, and nobody local is running a game that I would enjoy. Thus, a call to the interwebs to find like-minded GMs willing to round-robin GM (and be a player on the off weeks!) I prefer Shadowrun 5e or SWADE. Willing to consider / learn other systems. I like my games crunchy in terms of chargen, but not letting the rules get in the way of a good story. Once upon a very long time ago I played Traveller and Gurps and Hero and Cyberpunk. Not wanting to play Cyberpunk Red until it actually releases - I've played the starter box and found it lacking in depth (obviously). I prefer my campaign set in dystopian future. Shadowrun universe with magic is good. Altered Carbon universe with no magic is okay, too. Hell, at this point I'd even consider a Star Trek or Star Wars universe (not familiar with SW role playing system, willing to consider it). The most important thing, however, is to find GMs that have a similar approach as myself: we're all collaborating on a story. Characters advance, get stronger, but so do the bad guys. As a player I enjoy character advancement - getting shiney new toys, new powers/skills, improvement with every session. I hate HATE the "I'm going to give out 3 xp, and it takes 5 to get to the next level. Why? Bc screw you, I'm the GM and I don't want the characters to get more powerful." Any fellow GMs interested?
I'd consider it; I'm a forever GM who's happy to run games, but wouldn't mind playing a bit. Stuff I have: Tales from the Loop / Things from the Flood Eclipse Phase (would prefer 1E, but I have 2E) Blue Planet (1E or 2E) Coriolis Fading Suns (would definitely prefer 2E, but I have other editions) Shadowrun (I think that I have 4E, but I might be wrong... haven't looked at those in a while...) The Stars are Fire (Cypher System) Stuff I have and would like to run, but might not exactly fit your paradigm: Kuro Predation (Cypher System) Atomic Highway Numenera (also Cypher, but I list it separately as you don't need the Cypher core book to play) Polaris (the underwater one, not the indie press fantasy one [though I have both]) Slipstream (Savage Worlds Deluxe) And probably a number of others that I'm forgetting right now.

I just stopped running my Deadands (20th not that Savage Worlds stuff) and Traveller campaigns. Currently running Star Wars SAGA (I prefer WEG d6 but nobody plays it) I’ve had (run all of them) 3 Traveller campaigns in roll20. I’ve tried Stars Without Number and Eclipse Phase. I have Ashen Stars but have never played GUMSHOE. I love Microscope as a way to get a real collaborative world/setting. Also run Call of Cthulhu, Cthulhutech, Dungeon World, Villains and Vigilantes, Space Opera, Top Secret, Champions, Cyberpunk 2020, Shadowrun (1-3E)...and more. Oh and play DX (Double Cross) but that campaign is on hold indefinitely as it got C19’d. Out of the current sci-fi lineup would like to try Scum and Villainy. But open to most. Prefer more laid back and less crunchy games (though I love GURPS) as my job can really tax my brain during the week. EDIT1 : Forgot to add, Pacific Time (GMT -7) here. Available most weeknights 3 PM - 9 PM local, though I prefer 2-3 hour sessions. Weekends are usually a bit tougher. Ever other week or twice a month ideally, but could commit to weekly if it's more short term. EDIT2: Looks like there are 4 of us already as of 2020.05.01 :) EDIT3: Currently trying to get a Scum and Villainy one shot together (*well may be a 2 shot depending on how chargen/worldbuilding goes) 25th May (Monday) 3 PM PST/GMT-7 (6PM EST) one of the players has created a post for it here: https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/8673488/lfp-scum-and-villainy-looking-for-players-for-a-space-adventure-one-shot Canceled by the player who wanted the game, lol. I'm still willing to run this or other systems though.
Hi, Definitely interested in sci fi stuff, rather than fantasy. I don't have any practical experience in many sci fi games, but I learn quickly and can theorize many scenarios. Only sci fi experience I have are games like Shadowrun video game series from Hairbrained. I'm more a fan of good mechanics more than simply a story or RP. I enjoy world building and items and enemies that can bend the base mechanics of the game to do something interesting. That's not to say I don't enjoy a good story, but I don't think I've ever played in a game long enough to get to a good story. Honestly, a lot of the times I find the mechanics of the game get in the way of a well flowing story. Maybe it's just the terrible systems I've been playing. I've created 2-3 worlds full flushed out worlds throughout my GM days (factions, economy, resources, social/political relations) and I constantly hack systems apart get rid of clunky/un-fun things, and add more interesting mechanics. I also create enemies and items constantly.
I have run (and prefer) hard sci-fi games: eclipse phase, traveller, d20 modern, but can get on board with anything that's not elves and dwarves. I tend to prefer players who at least have a passing familiarity with science if we're going to actually play science-fiction. (I'm a card-carrying physicist.) Know anybody like that?
I'm running a short Savage Worlds campaign in a setting loosely based on Traveller's Third Imperium. Characters are cold-sleep survivors of a starship disaster on a remote world. This is more problem solving and roleplay than jumping from combat to combat. We've got a few slots still open for anyone interested in this type of thing: https://app.roll20.net/lfg/listing/219891/crash-on-aaru-prime (And yes, Sleestak, I went to grad school in biology, if that helps! :)
Sorry Sleestak, I'm a lawyer. That barely qualifies me as human. But I slept in a Holiday Inn last night if that helps! Looks like we've got good interest in a round-robin GM game. What system shall we use? Sleestak seems to put the kibosh on Shadowrun with his preference to NOT elves and dwarves. For those who have not played SR, 6e is a dumpster fire and 5e, while supported with tons of splat books, has its issues too. Not for the faint of heart. I have experience with SWADE and would love to explore it more. I've recently joined a WOIN game - looks promising, but I'm new to the system. So - let's hear it from the others - what rule system? Rank them 1 to 5, and we'll let the votes decide. May the odds EVER be in your favor!
I hope I'm not too late for this party, but I also tend to always be the GM when it comes to sci-fi games. I am very familiar with SWADE and have a passing familiarity with the Cypher System and Eclipse Phase. I'd probably rank them in that order, too. And I'm an engineer that spent most of my career associated with government labs.
I have a game you might like then. https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/8399990/slug%7D <- is the forum post for it. Just respond there if you're interested.

I'm really interested in join you guys. I also much prefer sci-fi over fantasy. Though I Love Shadowrun so I guess I just need a little sci-fi in my game to make me a happy camper. If the intent is to do a round robin style GMed game and you guys have not chosen a venue/system yet. I would like to suggest a crunch heavy FATE hack. There is an AMAZING collaborative world building format that is hella fun that I would be willing to demonstrate. Basically people discuss and add items to a shared setting in a round robin fashion developing a shared world that has a little bit of everyone in it. Because FATE is so fluid the creation could even be ported into another system. EDIT: Just because I saw it mentioned: Bleck to the Cypher system, not a huge fan. I would honestly rank it in one of the lowest levels of the high Tier RPs available. Still that is worst of the best and that is not nothing, so I would be willing to endure it.
Not sure if this is what you are looking for but have a look. Round Robin Saturdays
I'm in the UK and have run many scifi rpgs could run shadowrun 5e traveller looking to run Savage rifts or star trek adventures been running games mainly and play g a bit for over 30 years

A round robin group would be cool to help get back into gaming right now. I would love to get the chance to do atomic highways. I have tried to do the system for a couple of times and the game faded for lack of players after a month. I have lots of stuff i saved from the old forums that I would need to copy back into pdf files since the hard drive crashed and I have hard copies of all kinds of cool stuff i copied. Shadowrun, I tried 4th, could not get into, have a 3rd ed character that I would love to run. Star wars d6 I would love to play, got a craving to play it since I did a one shot last oct at a con. Deadlands oldschool would be cool, have a character that has not seen the light of day since the game came out. Mechwarrior 2nd ed could be fun to play and run and I would have to reread the rules but they where very easy to run and play. And gaint robots where always fun. As for times and days, Pretty open for days and times. I am midwest time and place. The only things I cannot do is sat night. If we get racing season going shortly, that is busy one sat night. I can do BESM 2nd ed with my eyes closed for game since I played for years in that system. Someone just tried a 4th ed of the system and it was cool but never got past the 1 st session of the game which sucked. Had a cool idea to cause the Gm was doing a stuido Gibli setting for his game and it was a cool idea.
Got all of those rpgs myself

I like the idea, but for me weekly is out. Still this would work for many other folks no? Kal Jaxa said: Not sure if this is what you are looking for but have a look. Round Robin Saturdays FYI regarding sci-fi systems: I mainly run Traveller (Mongoose 2E with some house rules to reduce crunch). I just tried to get a Scum and Villainy session going but couldn't get enough players in Roll 20. I am currently running a d20 SW Saga game but it's full and I intend to stop once the campaign is done. If I run another sci-fi, it will probably be Traveller or possibly WOIN with a setting more like the movie Aliens, (i.e. not as much pew-pew, more like bang bang, screech, crunch, slurp, repeat). I could be talked into running Cyberpunk 2020 or even Cthulhutech (one of my favorite settings but the system needs some work) but it's most likely be a one-shot. I'll play Mechwarrior, Shadowrun 3E, and others but prefer not to run them as they are too crunchy for my tired old brain these days. EDIT: This isn't technically sci-fi but I also played Call Cthulhu since 1E and could probably be talked into running 7E or DG/FaDG.

Sorry for not following up on this thread more often. I missed the notifications and just now seeing them. I promise I will make a more concerted effort to drive this as it looks like there's good interest. With enough players, we could make a weekly game, but there would not be an obligation to play every week. The only REAL obligation would be to GM when your turn came around. Allow me to start by organizing responses so far - will update based on further replies: Player Preferred System Day Time Tehmay Shadowrun 5e SWADE (open to others) M, H evenings CST Rerednaw Traveller WOIN Scum & Villainy M-H evenings PST WeakSauce MJH SWADE Cypher Eclipse Kingbanjo Shadowrun (5e or Anarchy) SW (EotE, D6) Eclipse Phase Fate NOT Sat CST early evening start time Douglas J SWADE (Rifts or Star Trek) Shadowrun 5e Traveller evenings GMT (early afternoon CST) JasonW. Atomic Highways Shadowrun 3e BESM (Big Eyes Small Mouth) Star Wars SWADE (Deadlands) MechWarrior NOT Sat CST Kaspar K Gurps Fate M-H, S,U 0500-2000 UTC (midnight - 3pm CST) TheInfamousNerd Stars w/o Numbers Eclipse Phaser Star Wars Starfinder Traveller M-F T,W any time M,H,F after 2pm US Mountain
I think the biggest question is are we looking at an established setting or create our own, and also one single ruleset or varies by GM. Because everyone's venn diagram intersects at Shadowrun however I am getting more of a SPACE! vibe from people.
Yeah, I'm out... Just started a 5E game that's gonna run for approximately the next 10 weeks or so, and I only indulge in one game at a time (as a GM or player), so if this idea is still kicking around a few months from now, I might jump back in, but right now, my dance card is full.
you guys play 40k Rouge Trader???
/bump, with updates to my chart above
Interested. Bigest preference is Gurps (quite easy for players to get into if the GM has done their homework) or Fate. Could also play (but not GM) Star Wars or any of the d20 systems (preferably with an online SRD). Time: Anyday except Friday, 5am UTC to 20pm UTC (I live in Latvia, UTC+3). Setting wise- maybe we could jointly make a space opera? Mash up things from Star Trek, Babilon 5, Mass Effect, etc...

I'm in the late playtesting stage of Space Cowboys, a gonzo sci-fi game based on Basic Roleplaying by Chaosium. I've run it plenty of times myself, but i'd like to play in a game run by another GM without my interference. Here's the listing if anyone is interested. I don't mean to spam your thread, delete this comment if you don't like it. https://app.roll20.net/lfg/listing/226472/space-cowboys
I have all the rogue trader books and have ran it

Here is a list of stuff that I can run and play with no issues and have copies of rules. Mechwarrior...any ed....though time of war and 3rd seem very hard to run...3rd ed just sucks. 2nd ed was fun and easy. Atomic highways no issues and have lots of extra stuff to share...means lots of scanning or typing back info from hard copy since that where the stuff is and the hard drive with copies died..sigh. BESM 2nd I know in my sleep and easy to run anything from a street racing game to magic to sci-fi mecha, Also have the new 4th ed that I have read though the book and looked at it. but played one short session of it. Star wars looks fun and found copies off all kinds of stuff from the old D6 rules for the game, so that what I would suggest and willing to share a link. Shadowrun, i would say 3rd ed..but i would have to really reread rules since I have not looked at them in years. I have a little known system called warbirds that looks cool to play and run. Some other world with airships and WWII airplanes and floating islands and mad science. Looks pretty cool for a read. It was put out by outrider studios. Speak of outriders studios, I have a game called Remnants by them. Its a after the bomb setting with black powder and mecha from ages past. Someone turned me to the game for a short campaign and it would be pretty cool to play it again. You get to have a base mecha and then get to build it up how you want and you can get pretty neat in how you think of how the powers work and look. Things we did for power wise for idea was one was a transformer into a car look. Some one had a very big chainsaw, a laser gatling gun, and I think hover mech also was in the group. As for times, Sat is very much out for me. Racing just got the go ahead from the state to be open and our opening night is june 6 depending on mother nature.
Would anyone like to play a silly one shot game for besm 2nd ed to start things off for seeing what player would like to play and what we might be into down the road? I can run a one shot game have been thinking about the past month. Not quite gotten around to posting it. We would make charaters in the session and play the game.
Updated. Looks like there are TWO potential groups: US based and EU based as the two have incompatible times.
I'm good up for one shot to get the ball rolling. Also for sake of clarity I'm not in a European time zone, incase there was doubt. CST works pretty well for me but PST might be problematic. During the week a start time of 4-7pm CST is very good, 3pm or 8pm CST is fine, 9pm CST less so. After 10 CST no go bro.
Updated. Early evening CST: Tehmay, Kingbanjo, JasonW Euro: Douglas J, Kaspar K No response yet: Rerednaw, WeakSauce, MJH

My info is listed before your chart. I've posted a few times here and I thought I'd keep the thread clutter down. Sorry I did not PM you because I didn't see a request for one? Or are you sorting this in discord or somewhere else and I just missed it? Was recommended to through myself in this thread. I've GMed Stars Without Numbers for a few years plus played it for twice as long. Done some Eclipse Phaser GMing but no super confident with that system as well has some Star Wars [the version with the setting being in the outer rim]. I have Starfinder and Traveler as well on hand. [all my copies are books that I own, except for the star wars game that i briefly GMed]. I Do have other game system too like 5e DnD, Blades in the Dark, Burning Wheel, and a few other. My time availability would be Tuesdays and Wednesday preferred cause I have those off. Monday, Thursday, and Friday after 2 PM Arizona Standard Time [US]. My GMing experience isnt to long, maybe 4-5 years. 2-3ish years with SWN and almost a year with DnD 5e with bits and pieces from some other systems like Supernatural kinda game that runs like SWN [that I can not remember], Eclipse Phaser, Star Wars, and a few co-op sort of GMing experiences with games like Microscope If there is anything else you are wanting to know for your groupings and all that just ask
To start the ideas for campaign ideas.....atomic highways..... We are the magical defenders of the wastelands. We fight for love and justice and a full tank of gas and a good cup of coffee. We look damn good wearing mini-skirts and high heels while doing so even if we are male or female. (ducks the rotten fruit being tossed my way)
Counter proposal (though I do like looking fabulous) Everything here is changeable, but a basic pitch: A "Sufficiently advanced" Quadrant in space mostly cut off from civilization because the Major Jump gate is flimflammered. In the dark places a <whositswhatisit> is <shimmershaming.> The various worlds are independant states bound together by trade compacts and policed by the rangers but now teetering towards a major war. A hostile race of <woogawooga> Aliens launched an attack decades ago and was beaten back but now lurk as raiders on the edge of known space, their goals are unknown. Recently a dissident /refuge Mckenndry Cylinder city ship / ark from the aliens has arrived begging asylum from the Rangers. Finally at location X while researching/exploring a series of structures that is progressing backward in time, group Y have unwittingly opened the gate / unleashed Z / Awakened the Leviathan which aims to cover all the lands of middle space in darkness / eat everyone / "Save" everyone Cthulhu style / Conquer the Universe! / Make a "door" out of people parts. On one of the worlds a new strictly regulated substance referred to as spice has strange effects on people and is often smuggled as a narcotic but its true use is.... as an antiagthic and fully unlocking the mind. Game System: TBD Mohs Sci-fi Hardness Scale: 7/10 (About Mass Effect level edging towards The Expanse) Key Conceit: Dimensional Shunting / manipulation technology makes all the weird stuff go. (Possible based of element-Dee) Mecha: heck yes (Normally Called Frames, but advanced version using E-Dee are called Enders) Fighter combat: heck no (or maybe so) Capital Ship Combat: Keel cannons, Phase Transit weaponry ho! FTL Style: Jump points otherwise STL only (possible STL accelerator rings / lanes) Resleeving: More complicated than most Transhumanism but viable. Mystic Mumjo: Babylon 5 technomages style (Sufficiently advanced technology can seem like magic to some) No I mean REAL Mystic Mumjo: Are there actually non-corporal higher dimensional entities granting abilities some would say are unnatural and manipulating events? Only the SHADOW know what evil lurks in the hearts of men! Aliens: Some but mostly weird ones but maybe a few "planet of hats" peoples Furries: You mean extremely advanced genetic engineering and uplifting.... yes Droids: Yes AI: NAI only. (Non-volitional AI. So its smart but lacks free will to exceed its mandate, like SW droids or The Andromeda Acendant) Evil Robots that pose an existential threat to humanity: Bored now go away. Swashbuckler option: (ie Laser swords, blaster pistols & force fields) FLASH! AAAHHhhhhaaAAAAA! I mean he does stand for everyone of us... But probably not... his hair is FABULOUS though. Ok done I think I could pack in more sci-fi references but I think that will do.... arrrrggggg forgot DUNE!
Is the entire idea dune spoof.

I'm all in on KingBanjo's idea, especially if we can combine Sting's Freyd Ruatha with Sam Jones's Flash Gordon! However, KB forgot one important decision: Where does the campaign land on the Camp Index, from Vagrant Queen (super campy) to Blade Runner (ultra-serious) ? Personally, I'd love to run something on the Space Balls side of the middle, but I could go with something mostly serious with times that it doesn't take itself too seriously. Is everyone in on this campaign idea? If so, then let's pick a night and a system! EDIT: Atomic Highways isn't bad either. MadMax meets Griswalds!
My idea was just to get something for ideas and I really would be for star wars 6d or atomic highways myself. Anything but sat is open for me. Give me the heads up and I can get a bunch of extra stuff for atomic highways typed up and some extra cool toys and gear to use in the game. take a few days to get the typing done since i can not scan the stuff since there is so much extra crap when i printed it out and have a copy that is left from the old message boards that i snagged stuff from.
It seems that some of us would like to do something, so ideas for Atomic highways for a setting and days and times? It seems a couple of us like the idea so post some ideas for a setting you might like for this? Maybe the dark future game setting with a weird alt 1995 with guns and cars and the group playing bounty hunters or something and the world pretty much gone to hell but still cites and such and some cool ideas but rock and roll dies in the 60's though. Maybe a cars worlds world setting with a group of mercs or something? or convoy escort? Or maybe D+D meets the road warrior with magic and guns and elfs and orcs with mohawks?
