Can't drag sheet macros to quick bar in Mac OSX

One of my friends couldn't follow along as I was showing him how to drag the initiative button from the sheet down to his quick bar. We were both using the Vivaldi browser, but I was on PC and he was on his Mac laptop. After much frustration, I powered up an old Mac Mini and installed Vivaldi, and sure enough, I got exactly the same results he did. It simply doesn't work on a Mac. The buttons already on the quick bar (placed there on my PC) work fine on the Mac, but the only way to get buttons on the bar on the Macs was to create macros in the Collection tab, and check the "In bar" checkbox. Note: Dragging stuff from the Compendium onto the sheet works fine on the Mac.

Dragging a button to the bar works fine on a Mac; I do it all the time. It doesn't appear to work on Vivaldi on a Mac, but only Chrome and Firefox are officially supported. Try using one of those and see if you still have the issue. If so, we can look for other causes.

Okay. After much testing I've come up with this. If there aren't any macros on your quick bar, dragging on the Mac DOES NOT WORK on any browser, including Firefox and Chrome. But, if you create a dummy macro in the collections tab, and check-mark "In Bar" , you can then drag other macros down to the bar from your sheet. You can then drag the dummy macro off the bar. As long as there is at least one button ALREADY on the bar, dragging from the sheet will work.
You don't need to make a dummy macro. You need to enable the Macro Quick Bar (see here: https://roll20.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039178674-Macro-Quick-Bar). Making a dummy macro and setting it to "In Bar" automatically enables the Macro Quick Bar.

No. You need to make a dummy macro. Enabling the bar isn't enough. I have tried it, many times and on many Mac browsers. And yes, the avatars "jump" up half an inch to make room for the bar. But dragging anything into that space without an existing button there simply does not work on a Mac - again, with any browser on the Mac. I never had the this problem on a PC.

I appreciate that this is a problem that you are experiencing but your statement is false: RGG said: No. You need to make a dummy macro. Enabling the bar isn't enough. I have tried it, many times and on many Mac browsers. I have just tried it in a variety of contexts on my mac: existing game, bar already enabled, macros in the collections tab existing game, bar not already enabled, macros in the collections tab existing game, bar not already enabled, no macros in the collections tab new game, bar already enabled, macros in the collections tab new game, bar not already enabled, macros in the collections tab new game, bar not already enabled, no macros in the collections tab For completion I also repeated those same conditions on both supported browsers. All tests passed . I'm not trying to be negative, nor am I discrediting your claims to be a troll, I'm hoping to highlight that your problem may in fact be localised to your instance and that you would be advised to work through the standard tech help steps to see if you can make life easier for yourself :)
RGG is correct and I have been experiencing the exact same problem on my Mac. But I have figured out the steps to make it work, at least for me. Using Vivaldi or Chrome or Firefox I was never able to drag anything from my character sheet to the macro bar. Didn't matter if "Show Macro Bar" was checked or not. Then I clicked "Add" for Macro and made a blank macro named 'test'. I then clicked "In Bar" and the blank test macro showed up in the macro bar. The instant I did that, I was able to drag and place the same character sheet macros that did not work before, directly to the macro bar without any problem. Now that I followed those steps, I can't make it not work. It seems that the instant it is made to work once, it continues to work, but before that there was no way to drag a macro to the bar. So there DOES seem to be an issue with a Mac running OS X (in my case it's Catalina 10.15.4) being able to drag a macro the bar. But once the bar has at least one macro on it, it seems to work perfectly.

I have just gone through the gamut that Andreas posted, Mac OS Mojave. existing game, bar already enabled, macros in the collections tab - PASS existing game, bar not already enabled, macros in the collections tab - FAIL existing game, bar not already enabled, no macros in the collections tab - FAIL new game, bar already enabled, macros in the collections tab - PASS new game, bar not already enabled, macros in the collections tab - FAIL new game, bar not already enabled, no macros in the collections tab - FAIL Tests were conducted in FF and Chrome. In all cases, I found that once I activated the "Show macro quick bar?" setting, I was able to drag actions from the character sheet to the quick bar only if the setting was on, regardless of the presence of other macros in the collections tab or already on the bar. This would seem to be the expected behavior. Note that if I turned on "Show in macro bar" for an Action on a character sheet, it automatically made the bar visible and showed the Action in the bar: existing game, bar already enabled, macros in the collections tab - PASS existing game, bar not already enabled, macros in the collections tab - PASS existing game, bar not already enabled, no macros in the collections tab - PASS new game, bar already enabled, macros in the collections tab - PASS new game, bar not already enabled, macros in the collections tab - PASS new game, bar not already enabled, no macros in the collections tab - PASS I did not conduct any tests with Vivaldi, since it is not a supported browser.
