Hello. I am a DM looking to add an additional 1-2 players for a current ongoing campaign after a conflicting schedule had to drop a player out of the game. So far, 4 sessions of the game has been played and the party has only taken a few quests to hunt down monsters. The party is currently at a town that might be seeing a rebellion and are deciding among themselves what side to help. We have yet to get to the meat of the campaign and the party is at level 4, so there is little worry of having missed out and joining in on a inopportune time. At the moment we have a Celestial Warlock, a Swords Bard, and a Cleric of the Arcana domain. If you join we will work together to create a character, make a backstory, and fit you in to the world. This is an 18+ game. The setting is in a grim world with morally ambiguous and gray themes abound. There will be mentions of adult content and dark themes, but it will never delve too far in to uncomfortable territory. As a sandbox game how the game will go is totally dependent on the players, however, at the moment the party is interested in intrigue/politics. The story is centered around a declining Empire where nobles have become corrupt and incompetent. A controversial Empress has taken charge of the throne and there is much bickering at court. Monsters are on the rise, the people are restless, and the Empire suffers seasonal wars near the borders. It will be roughly 60-40 ratio of roleplay to combat, bound to change depending on what the party decides and wants to do. Combat will be "difficult" in the sense that the party will be required to think, work together, know when to use their action economy in order to "win." We are using the gritty realism rule (short rests are 8 hours, long rests are a week), a 29-point buy system with a free feat at character creation (No human variant), and I will be allowing homebrew material as long as I look through it and approve it. My simple rule is: please don't try to break the game and overpower yourself with things the devs did not intend. As this is a sandbox game I am very much looking for motivated people who take initiative on their own without me having to handhold the players. Roleplaying is highly encouraged, even through text during off-times. With the gritty realism rule there will be time for downtime activities where you may do anything you wish. I will not put the party on any rails or punish them for choosing one decision over another. I simply look to see how the world responds. NPCs will think intelligently as will as enemies, and I will not be fudging dice in favor or against the players. Most importantly, I want players that treat the game in a respectful manner and willing to show up to weekly sessions ready to play rather than treating D&D as a side hobby they can ignore when other hobbies come up. I of course will not begrudge anyone for any emergencies and the like. Please feel free to PM me or post an application here. This game will be played every Monday at 4:00 PST, perhaps skip a session once in a while if I need time to prep things or get a bit of DM fatigue. Here is the game listing: https://app.roll20.net/lfg/listing/215479/the-waning-of-peace Thanks for reading, and good luck with your games whether we play together or not!
Hi there. You have interested me. Discord: Wisna#3382. I am excited to play. Never done a gritty realism campaign. How does spellcasting work? I imagine it's super punishing to use spells in a campaign like that.

Hello. Your game sir is indeed very interesting. The concept of sandbox gaming and the freedom you give players fantastic in my opinion though one thing I'm struggling with is the rest situation . If say I cast goodberry for sustenance or what ever the reason, they would expire after a day & I'll have to wait 6 days for it. My question is wont this depower spell reliant classes in favor of others ? either way I'm in :) . I have not played d&d for so long so there are classes that I'm yet to explore and this may be the prefect opportunity. If you have a spot available dm me or add me in discord MA20#2067.
To answer both your questions, yes, the gritty realism optional rule "nerfs" spellcasters. It is a rule some people vastly enjoy while others do not. Obviously, I fall under the former. The benefits of gritty realism is that players now have to think more on their resources and actions. No longer can they blow all of their resources in every encounter only to retreat back and take an 8 hour sleep to gain every one of their features back. No longer has the DM need to forcibly impose arbitrary restrictions such as time limits and night time ambushes every time the party tries to rest. Warlocks who have severe shortage on spell slots are powered up. As the party needs a week to take their long rest, the rest of the world can evolve along with the players. The passage of time and the growth of the players make more sense as they are no longer adventuring every 24 hours and going from level 1 to 10 in but a month's time. A Fighter who was battered in the last fight is no longer sleeping for 8 hours and having all of his wounds close up. The Wizard isn't chucking army-destroying Fireballs every single day only to sleep 8 hours and regain the ability to destroy armies in such a short time. As the name states, it is "gritty realism" as opposed to a heroic fantasy. It ultimately comes down to which kind of game one prefers, and unfortunately if you want the latter my game might not be for you. I will review applications over the week and get back to you all. Cheers!

Hi there. I really liked what you wrote about your campaign, and Mondays are a fine time for me. I've played with rests being elongated before and I'm quite comfortable with it. But more to the point, I'm a very RP-focused player. I enjoy combat of course too, but for me, roleplay, story, and character development will always be completely central to my play, whether it leads to tragedy or triumph; I enjoy both! I also have a strong preference for moral grey areas and decisions having weight and impact upon the world. Anyway, in short: if roleplay is the emphasis of your campaign, please do hit me up on Discord: rox#0979. Thanks for reading!
