Custom "Fog" image for simple fog of war.

I'm running a 5e game for my daughter and her friends. We generally prefer to use the simple "fog of war" system where I hand-reveal areas. I would like a feature that would allow me to specify, on a per-map basis, the image to use for "fogged" areas. That image would be scaled to the same size as the whole map, and would replace the solid black that the players see in unrevealed areas of the map. Here are a few example use cases: If the map looks like it's drawn on parchment, the fog image could be set to blank parchment, so it looks like the characters are drawing it as they go. The fog image could be an "unreliable" version of the map which is what the players already know about the geography, that is slowly being replaced by their actual experiences. For overland maps, the fog image could be a terrain-only version of the map with no landmarks, and the GM can reveal the landmarks as the players discover them. This is the use case I care about most. Storm King's Thunder would be ideal for this, with it's two different versions of the overland map. Thanks for reading.
+1 I like this idea. I would suggest that we would need a mask Layer which would hold the image that the reveal tool would remove. One use of this approach you could use the Mask layer to hold an image with say a village with the roofs of the buildings on and the map layer could be the same image without the roofs
I would settle for just a single mask image, but a whole layer would be even cooler. That way it could have text and even tokens on it.
There is a highly voted idea for a foreground map layer, that has apparently been blocked on the new dynamic lighting and fog of war system. I would suspect this functionality may well come with that. https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/1241955/foreground-map-layer
