I am Zack the DM. I have started running a new game set in the "Far East," "The Orient," etc. While not historically realistic, it will be set in a fantastical approximation of Sengoku period Japan mixed with Kung Fu movies, Fire Emblem, and other modern and historical Japanese influences. The world of Nihon (the setting) is to Japan as Wakanda (from Black Panther) is to Northeastern Africa. It is entirely fictitious, but borrows from a lot of lore, tropes, and culture of the realistic. That being said, it is still D&D, and there will be monsters, many races, a pantheon (including Buddhist and Shinto elements), etc. A few things to note before getting into the details is, for this campaign I NEED people who are two things: 1. Not a toxic player (someone who will get overly angry, passive-aggressive, bullying, etc.) 2. Consistent. Has every Sunday from here to at least a year down the line at the time listed (12 pm EST) free. If something comes up once in a while I understand. But please, be ready for the long haul! Now the details. After establishing the tentative Inoshishi shogunate after almost a century of nonstop wars, the Emperor Hebi pretentiously called for an end to the constant fighting across the land of Nihon by diamyos seeking power and territorial growth. After the shogun Inoshishi's retainer, the legendary Ogami Ittō (The Lone Wolf) cut off the heads of 131 lords, many lords and diamyos believed peace was the only option left in order to live. However, after tragedy struck The Lone Wolf, he left the Shogun and headed west to found the Wakayama Academy in a province of his own family's ruling. He was getting old, but many feared him, and when he formally announced his retirement, equal parts shock and greed crossed the land. The fighting, feuding, and especially the killings would not stop anytime soon. In such a land, being able to defend yourself is key. It is survival of the fittest, and many figure they ought to travel to this Wakayama Academy. Only the strongest, smartest, most powerful and cunning, will survive this period contemporary historians are already calling The Great Unrest. Even if you fail to prove yourself to the fabled Lone Wolf, a lifetime of feudal servitude under the most feared man in the land is a more sought after alternative to dying in some conflict, conscripted by the nearest lord. So, you made this journey to Wakayama Academy. As dangerous as it was, you made it. But getting there, was only the very start of your challenges. Once you got there, the scope of the world you knew expanded like the blooming lotus. (Note for the new player application! We are level 3, and only like 5-6 sessions in. SO you haven't missed much. We can talk about how your character joins the party; they don't have to be a student. The rundown of what you missed can be explained simply that they were training at Wakayama Academy, they realized there was a threat to the academy out there in the form of green clad lizardfolk ninja, and now they are in Kyoto waiting for word from the Academy about the ninja the caught being forced to spill the beans. They have already heard they may find his friends around here somewhere, but they need more details.) Okay, so, anymore questions about the world you have will be in the forums, but now we get into the game. You are starting at level 3 (and will probably end between 11-13). This can be fun, but just so new players and vets to know, I won't be pulling punches. Early levels are quite deadly, especially picking fights with the wrong crowd or just a crit in a normal encounter. So, try not to put all your eggs in one basket is all. I am aiming for a deadly campaign with some very challenging encounters throughout. This is my second campaign, me and most of the other players are coming off my first campaign. If this dissuades you at all I am being up front, we have 3 returning players, but we are ALL very welcoming and amiable. They are playing (if you wanna fill in the gaps) A tabaxi rogue (assassin) A tabaxi warlock (hexblade) A warforged artificer A human bard (college of swords) House Rules - We roll for starting stats 3 times, taking the best cluster. 4d6 per stat (drop the lowest) - No human variant. - Milestone Leveling - Any creature who has been decapitated cannot be brought back even by true resurrection. In the lore, this method of killing is acceptable, and done often by samurai to ensure a death is unalterable. (Undead cannot usually be created with headless corpses, but when they are, often are stronger.) -Flanking confers a +2 to hit. -Lucky has been changed to only allow one reroll per day instead of 3. -Ranged weapon and cantrips can be made nonlethal. If you post a message on here or DM me showing interest we can chat via Roll20 or even Discord, up to you. In summation, I'm looking for someone who is heavily interested in the Far East homebrew setting, willing to talk over their character concept in detail, and who is 100% free on Sunday 12pm EST and won't leave except under unforeseen circumstances. Welcome to Shogun Action Theatre!
