[LFP] Looking for Player - Ancient Greek themed game - Saturdays 20:00 EET

Edited 1592132190
Hi there, I'm Panda and me and my group are looking for one player to join in an ongoing campaign set in a high fantasy, pseudo historical version of ancient Greece, roughly before the Persian Wars, called Light of Olympus . The players are chosen champions of one of the Olympian gods, whose mission is to assist the gods in an ongoing war against eldritch gods from another world. We are running a serious, roleplay-heavy campaign with a lot of lore, using DnD 5e mechanics. Current party consists of:  A Minotaur Tempest Cleric (Poseidon), a Drow (Lampad Nymph) Roguelock (Hermes), a Satyr (not Theros) Hexblade (Artemis), and a Human Shepherd Druid (Demeter). After initial approval, you’ll attend an interview with the group through Discord before we make our final decision.  Requirements for applying: Discord + decent microphone for voice chat; enough free time to attend full sessions every week; an appetite for fun and adventure; a love for roleplay-heavy games with characters that can be adapted to seamlessly fit and blend in well with the world. While previously-created characters can work in some respects, if they end up standing out too heavily from the world around them, the character may be rejected; a tolerance for memes and low humor, (heroic?) nudity and learning through playing: questions about the world and setting sometimes get long answers; and a passing familiarity with Greek mythology and setting.  Sources Allowed: The Player's Handbook & Errata Revised Ranger Xanathar's Guide to Everything Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes Sword Coast Adventurers' Guide Tales of Old Margreve Midgard Heroes Eberron Certain UA (after discussion with GM and group)  Homebrew classes and races will not be allowed for this game for balancing and lore purposes, sorry! Homebrew backgrounds and spells may be allowed, if they are balanced and fit the setting; contact your DM to talk about it first, though. Disclaimer: Light of Olympus is a very setting and lore heavy game . Certain things in the allowed sources may be disallowed to preserve the integrity of the setting and the immersion of all participants. Please respect this decision and try to come up with character concepts that fit the setting. Don’t ask to be a nordic dwarf in an ancient Greek setting who worships Thor. The point is to play local people chosen by the Greek gods they worship. Keep in mind that ancient Greece was much, much more cosmopolitan than we assumed in the past. You could easily be a foreign visitor who stayed or someone whose family hails from further afield.    Some disclaimers: This is a LGBT+ friendly game. Bigotry will not be tolerated, nor racism (towards ANYBODY) but be forewarned some of us are cynical dumbasses. However, we mean well and want to learn to be better people. We appreciate new information and new perspectives. We all try to be civil here and appreciate civility in return. Politics as a topic will come up, both ic and ooc. Again, we try to keep things civil and as a GM I reserve the right to shut down arguments and debates if they go too far. Keep things chill. Don’t worry if you don’t know Greek mythology or daily life in excruciating detail. This is a game, not an exam. You are free to ask your DM questions OOC or make various checks IC at fairly easy DC to gain information about various mythological or setting topics your character might be interested in. Nobody’s going to punish you for asking for information -- unless you’re asking the BBEGs. Then I can’t help you. Topics like death, slavery (as functioned in ancient Greece, not pre-emancipation America), war and its atrocities, sex and nudity are major themes of Greek mythology and history and therefore will be encountered in this setting, through various perspectives. If at any time you feel uncomfortable, please remain civil, request a timeout and sit down and talk with the rest of the group for the best possible resolution. The views and opinions expressed by characters within the game do not reflect the DM or the players' own beliefs and ethics. Remember that this is fiction. Please be civil in discussing them with your DM and other players. We're people too. We are not running an explicit 18+ game, but nudity is just about everywhere and you will have to cope with it. You will be naked at times. It’s an inevitability in a setting where people dress in what is essentially bedsheets. Please be chill about it. Sexual themes will get the 'fade to black' treatment and any “creeper” behavior on your part will first earn you a single warning, then a kick from the game if you carry on. Please resist the temptation to re-create hackneyed pop-culture interpretations of Greek mythology for this game. Characters like Percy Jackson and Kratos and whomever from Assassin’s Creed will not make the cut. Yes, we’ve heard all the Zeus jokes already. Please don’t. [They’re inaccurate anyway!] If you want to create a Spartan character, there are some things you need to know ahead of time. We’ll have a talk about it but don’t worry, it’s not going to be as bad as you think. Don’t forget to include the code word “Malakas” in your app, so I know you read it all through. If you wanna know what it means, ask me. Last but not least, this game is run by a Greek. Don't try to out-Greek me ;)   What your characters should know: Like much of the rest of the Hellenic world, you are aware that the Olympians have been curiously distant from the world for the last 50-odd years. They aren't gone but their presence is not felt as closely as before. Nobody you have met is certain why, or if they do, they are reluctant to disclose it.  Strange creatures everyone calls ‘Nostoi’ (singular: Nostos) have been appearing throughout Hellas and nobody can explain why or what they are very well. They are aggressive, hardy and appear and vanish seemingly at random.  Travel has become difficult over the past few decades due to an increase in brigands and other roadside perils, as tensions brew stronger between the city states of Hellas and the Persian Empire to the east is making moves to consolidate its hold on the Hellenic colonies of Asia Minor.  We’ll figure out how your character meets the party, before your first session with us. Startup Guide:  You will begin at Level 9 with starting equipment from your race, class and background. You will begin with ONE racial feat of your choice, unless you are playing a Human, in which case your choice will be vetted by the GM. You will have available 3000 GP to spend on purchases (mundane items plus anything of uncommon rarity or lower). You will also receive 2 common and 2 major uncommon magic items for free (also vetted by the GM). No stat-increasing items can be purchased during character creation. A Note About Power Gamers Just don’t do it. I’ll know.  Races available: Aasimar, most Elves, Half-Elf, Centaur (homebrew), Dragonborn, Human (variant included), Minotaur (homebrew), Satyr (homebrew), Siren (homebrew), Tiefling Player Info What should we call you: Gender/Pronouns: Experience: Expectations of the game: Character Info  Name: Race: Class: Personality: Background:

Player Info What should we call you: Gerry is what most people call me. Gender/Pronouns: Male/Him. Experience: About 2 years of play with 5th edition Expectations of the game: I normally want my characters to leave a footprint upon the world, let it be a reputation or passing down a powerful item to their descendant. Otherwise i'd like to see epic fights worth of greek myths, with a little bit more of magic, of course. And last but not least, i'd like to see how my character gets along with the rest of the party, let it be good or bad, as long as both OOC parties agree on it and make it interesting. Character Info  Name: Agamedes of ___ (at least from my knowledge, in the ancient greek times you only had a first name and you were denoted by your location, although i can change it if i'm wrong) Age: 79 Race: Human Class: Battle-Smith Artificer (i assumed that it was allowed since you said that Eberron is a usable resource, plan to play it as a gifted and learned magical smith instead of a scientist/tinkerer) Personality: Ever since the gods became distant from the world, Agamedes has slowly been growing a "Do it yourself" principle, knowing that they'd have to help themselves then onwards. He tends to be calm but his age has been slowly eating away at it and replacing it for a short-temper towards those who rely on others and don't do what needs to be done, sometimes making him look like an elitist, but he simply wants everyone to live up to their potential. Background: (Guild Artisan, but probably edited to a version more specific to the character and lore of the world) Agamedes was born from a family of artisans and kept up with the tradition, learning about pottery, smithing and carpentry at a young age from his father, back in the time where the gods were more proactive - praying to Hephaestus every day with him. He stayed at his hometown as the local crafstman with his father until the gods became distant, he and the rest of the people there were sure that the gods would answer to the prayers sure, to their dismay. After a little over a year of no favour from the gods, Agamedes decided to start travelling to the neighboring villages to help out and find out if they were also forsaken by the divine. Everywhere he went, he found people wallowing about the gods ignoring their pleas for help, and almost no one doing much but staying put until something happened, but the young artisan had a far-fetched idea, but at this point it was better than sitting and waiting for a literal miracle: Agamedes kept travelling through the land, learning everything he could a bout the crafts of his choice, honing his skills the most he could, eventually learning a thing or two about fighting to keep himself safe on the trails. His plan was to hone his artisan skills so much that he'd made works of art so beautiful that Hephaestus himself couldn't turn away form it, and if that failed he could always arm the heroes that were battling the new threats with powerful weapons, armor and trinkets - some magical, some not. And thus Agamedes spent decade after decade, slowly cultivating his skills as his hairs grew long and gray, going from failed group of adventurers to the next, until either his skills became even greater than a master smith's or he finds a group of heroes to arm so they could pull the world from this dark age where people started to doubt the very existence of the gods. Praying for Hephaestus to guide his hand whenever he's about to fight or create something new, including the bronze lion (steel defender) that accompanies him on his travels, helping the rather elderly man defend himself. (of course this lacks a lot of detail and localisation, which will be filled in and expanded if i make it in, making good use of the lore and maps at hand) --- Those things aside, i enjoy the rules and disclaimers you have up, this is exactly the kind of campaign i'm looking for and i REALLY love the greek-age setting. So i hope i can get in it and have a great time with all of you, you mangy Malakas ! (I know what it means, and i do not apologise) (EDIT: I finally got some inspiration for a character, things can change as accordingly for the setting.)

Player Info What should we call you: Ben is fine, but I can roll with anything Gender/Pronouns: He/Him/ Experience: 5 years in dnd 5e/ 6 total years of TtRPG (it was a stupid game friends and I made cause we couldn't afford the books. Expectations of the game: I'm expecting a game where what my character does, matters. I want to have consequences for my actions, good or bad, and I want some inter party rp. Malakas (isn't that a derogatory way to say  lonely  man or something?) Character Info  Name: Ajax Gataki Age: 57 Race: Fallen Aasimar Class: Oath of Vengeance Paladin Personality: So he is friendly in nature, but his DARK PAST haunts him. So when Ajax sees someone inflicting harm on others, he kinda doesn't care what is right or wrong. He is the kind of guy to Open a bakery and he talks to all the customers and stuff. But then he hears that there is a gang trying to roll into town and he meets them, if they're bad people, They dissapear and people dont know how. Kinda like soldier 76 i guess. Background: When Ajax was younger His father was never around, and his mother, Calixte, refused to talk about him. The only thing left behind was a pet greyhound to protect Ajax.It wasn't until later in life when Ajax discovered that His father was Ares (or maybe he still doesn't know it's up to you). And here's where I get a little hazy. I dont know what types of things the Eldritch monsters are doing, so I'm thinking one way or another Ajax' mother dies because of them and he basically goes full edge mode and vows to destroy all eldritch horrors, and protects others from them. Ajax was born in Alexandria, His mother owned a patisserie, and He was learning the trade himself. But the EDGY BACKSTORY happened and now he fights the eldritch. (If I get excepted, I assume we can talk more about the backstory, and I can flesh it out once I get more details and whats its)

Player Info What should we call you: Connor is fine Gender/Pronouns: He/Him Experience: Been playing TTRPG's for almost 6 years now, 5e for the past 3. Expectations of the game: To have fun and simply tell a story. Nothing more is necessary, but anything more is appreciated. Character Info  Name: Kallius Race: Tiefling Class: Wizard (School of Necromancy) or Cleric (Grave Domain) Personality: Kallius, despite often being seen as cursed, has a warm and friendly disposition. He can be on the quiet side, as he often spends his time in his head or talking with the spirits that speak to him. Most see him as mad or hexed, he sees himself as a friend to the dead in need. He is extremely loyal to those close to him and often times can be a bit of a pushover when it comes to people asking him for help. Background: Kallius has had a rough go of it. When he was born, looking as he did, he was seen as an ill omen. His families response was to be rid of him, leaving him in the wild to die. Somehow, he's not really sure, he survived. All he really remembers is hearing whispers or seeing visages that seemed to always help or lead to something that could. He spent most of his early years in the wilds until he finally wandered upon a small town. The whispers and voices drew him there, like there was something that they wanted him to find. He tried entering in the day but was shooed away on the spot. Having to sneak in under the cover of night, Kallius followed his intuition and the whispers to the opposite edge of the town. Once there, all was quiet, no whispers or anything. Looking around, he couldn't shake the feeling that there was something he needed to find. Walking around and looking about, Kallius tripped on a loose stone and stumbled into the wall of an old building. The wall was already fragile but the sudden pressure made it crack and fall almost landing directly on top of him. Getting his bearings, Kallius began to hear the whispers again, ushering him into the building. At the same time, he heard the sounds of people stirring in the distance. Running inside for cover, he stepped in to find the building was actually an old and dilapidated temple. Laying at its center was a small dais and on it was a (Book or Holy Symbol tbd) as he looked around for anyone, he heard the voices in the distance fade and felt drawn to the dais. As he approached he felt the room begin to chill, standing at it looking closely at the object he stood illuminated by the moon from above through a skylight. Picking it up, he immediately fainted and was shown visions (To be determined with the GM if necessary). Waking up in unfamiliar surroundings and completely intact. Traveling and following the whispers, Kallius still carries it. (More to be made provided more information and things like that) Oh, and Malakas.
