New player trying to find a group (So rare I found)

Hi everyone, First time player looking to get the rounds of a game of DnD (Open to any game though). Long time RPG fan, 26 male who always wanted to play but never had a group of friends interested. I have tried to find online game for about 2 weeks, joining many groups across multiple sites - none of them have worked out for scheduling or group falling apart. I am PDT time but work EDT hours so Eastern Time 5-9 is my preferred - weekdays. Hoping maybe this forum post gets me somewhere. Thanks everyone for any advice or offers.
It's generally a good idea to focus on a particular RPG system, be in D&D 3.5, 4e, NEXT, Pathfinder, Edge of the Empire, etc ,etc. Be able to show that you have at least a passing familiarity with the system and be able to make your own character sheet. While there are a fair number of tutorial games offered now and then, it's better if you have a certain base foundation to go from. It also makes it infinately easier to find a group if you can say straight out what you're looking for, when you can play, and your competancy level with that system.
Toney, are you interested in playing Pathfinder, Carrion Crown? I know you said you work EST, but we start at 630pm PST and go til about 9pm PST (maybe 10).
I would say soley based on my initial reading of rules, I am more familiar with 3.5/4 so I will start looking for that though pathfinder rules did sound interesting. Kuriin - sorry too late for me but I appreacite it
I disagree Mark. RPing is about having fun. You should try to play as many different types of games as you can. Find something you enjoy.
i've heard people compare it to learning programming languages -- take a little time, learn and get familiar with your first one. and then when you move onto the next... you'll recognize differences, but the major foundations and concepts will be familiar.
Hey Toney V. I'm doing an DnD interest check, let me know if it works out for you: <a href="https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/883946/dnd-4e-interest-check-or-3-dot-5-slash-path#post-892743" rel="nofollow">https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/883946/dnd-4e-interest-check-or-3-dot-5-slash-path#post-892743</a>
