Hey there! If you're a new player who wants to learn Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition and go on your first adventure, you're in the right place! I'm running teaching adventures for new players. I've got room for more players in 2 sessions this week: Session 2 - Wednesday - June 17, 2020 - 1pm to 5pm CST / GMT-6 / UTC-6 Sorry, Session 2 is full. Session 3 - Saturday - June 20, 2020 - 3pm to 7pm CST / GMT-6 / UTC-6 Here's the game listing with all of the details and how to apply: https://app.roll20.net/lfg/listing/236009/the-age-of-adventure-a-place-to-learn-d-and-d-for-new-players I've ran this teaching adventure for two different groups now. 7 out of the 8 new players had a blast and can't wait to play more D&D. Let me know if you have any questions. I'm happy to answer them.
I may be too "advanced" for this game. I played when 2nd Edition was new. . . Now I am trying to figure out how to get "in." I bet that my next hurdle will be audio and video issues. Any pointers on where to start? Am I appropriate for your beginner game? I can roll and equip a 2nd Ed character, and I know how to search a room. . . . If not, have any pointers on how to proceed?

Yeah, you're probably too advanced for it. I'm sure it would bore you to tears. I usually take 4 completely new players that have never played and teach them how to play D&D, what everything does, what to click on, how to move your token, literally everything. We just play through a very short adventure with some social interaction, skill use, exploration and combat over 4 hours. You already know how to play D&D. How to think about the game, what to do in the game, how to use tactics. You just need to learn how the Fifth Edition rules are different than the 2nd Edition rules. That's a lot less of a learning curve than most new players have. The audio and video kind of change depending on who's running the game. Most of us use Discord for voice communications because it's more stable. Some games use Roll20's built-in voice communications. Some games use web cams. Most just use voice.
Session 2 for tomorrow is full, but we still have room for more players for Session 3 on Saturday.
I've got a lot of applications to go through for Session 3 this week, so I'm sure it's full at this point. Thanks to everyone for their interest. I'll run more of these in the future.
