Copy-paste and alignment problems?

I've been having an issue in placing floor or wall tiles. What I want to do is place a line of tiles, group it, copy, and paste. So I carefully (frequently using alt) align my tiles, select them all, copy them, and then paste the group. And then it all falls apart. The minute I click on the pasted group the tiles fall back out of the alignment I put them in, snapping to the grid in some strange way that doesn't match the way I put them and pulls them out of alignment with each other. Align to grid doesn't seem to do anything except stretch my tiles in strange ways, especially when I want to use tiles that are smaller than a grid cell, such as a wall. Is there any way to make this work?

If you go to the setting for the map page (bring down the top menu that shows all your pages- called page toolbar, there is a blue tab at the top right side of the map area) you can turn off the grid. The alt select or drag across all your tiles you want and right click on them then choose the advance button and there will be a button called group. This will lock them all together into one unit. Later on you can ungroup them by using the ungroup button below the other button. When they are grouped, you can select and copy each group.

That would be what I've been doing, aside from turning off the grid. I sorta need to see that grid right now, because it's what tells me where I need my floors to go to and where to put my walls.

Ah, ok. Pm Gauss a join link and he will work miracles for you.
An example: The bottom table is made of 4 pieces. I selected all of them, hit group, and copy-pasted. The top table is the result.

So it turns out that when using "perma-group" (permanently grouping an set of items in the menu) copying and pasting the perma group results in some odd placement. The solution here is to not use "perma-group" when doing copy/paste and then use mouse-drag to select the group after placement. To prevent selecting other elements of the map layer (when using mouse-drag) work on a different layer (such as the GM layer) and move the group to the map layer when positioned properly.
When building a map I usually work on the token layer and drop them to the map layer, it seems to be easier to align for reasons I do not understand.
