Players unable to move character tokens dragged from sheet

I have checked previous posts, and the common fix is to edit the token to represent that player's character in the journal.  I've followed all the steps, and still, my players cannot move their tokens, despite being on the token layer.

So when you double click the token, on the left it should say "Controlled By". Does it say "(Determined by Character settings)" under this?

The solution is to not drag the token from the sheet. That produces a generic graphic without a link to the sheet. The correct procedure is to drag the character by the name onto the VTT from the Journal Tab. That will place the default token.

Sorry to necro a bit, was on vacation.  But yes, it does (once I edit the token.)   When it's dragged from the sheet, it defaults to "None/Generic Token." keithcurtis said: The solution is to not drag the token from the sheet. Sorry about not clearing things up; I do infact drag the sheet from the journal onto the VTT.  Problem is when the token placed by the sheet cannot be accessed by players.
you have to give control
Editing a token only edits that specific token, not any future ones that will be pulled from the character sheet. After you edit the token, you have to edit the character sheet with the new token.  Go back to the character sheet, remove the Default Token, and then add the new edited one as the default token.  At that point any tokens pulled from the character sheet will match the edited token.  If you make more edits again in the future you'll have to remove/replace the default token each time.

Thank you, this helped a bit!  I don't have to edit the characters anymore :) But, however, my players can still  not move their tokens.  I'm not sure what's up.

Screenshots of token/sheet settings would help people know exactly how you have things set up.

Dragging the token from the sheet is not the intended design of Roll20. It will produce an unassigned, generic token. Characters will not have control over it, and you will have to edit the settings, as you have discovered. The intended procedure is to drag the default token from the journal tab onto the VTT. Then you will get the token you assigned and set up as the default token for that sheet, provided you have set it up properly: Here is the wiki article on  Linking Tokens to Journals Here is a  video  which demos the procedure The takeaway from this is don't drag a token from the sheet onto the VTT. It won't work.
