[PF2e] Multi-action spell macros

Some spells have a choice for the number of actions you use which create different effects based on the number of actions. The example I'll use for this is Magic Missile. When I set this up on the character sheet I added a "Second: [[1d4+1]], Third: [[1d4+1]]" to the description of the spell which we then use or don't as necessary. How have other people handled this and similar spells?
I created duplicate spell entries in the spell list for each version.  I do the same thing with heightened spells and adjust the stats for damage and spell level appropriately.  For example, I have a 1-action, 2-action, and 3-action entry for Magic Missile.  The caster selects the level or number of actions at which they want to cast the spell. I have also added additional info in the spell description just like you have for Medicine skill based treat wounds.  Though occasionally I get complaints because each entry is a separate roll.  So one roll value might be a minimum value while another is a maximum value.  When folks see what might have been they get testy.

Yeah, this has been an occurrence at my table also (testy might be an overstatement, but it still kinda sucks). We've just house ruled that if you get a critical success, but the critical success damage is lower, you can choose the regular damage instead. Takes the sting out a little when it happens to you, but amplifies it when it happens to the bad guys.
