Edit: There clearly is an interest! I'll set things up and post as soon as I feel ready! Edit 2: You can now apply here! I'm a newish GM who wants to start a low fantasy game for a homebrew campaign. I have most of it planned out already. I started running it in DnD 5e with some friends but I quickly realised it wasn't a good fit for DnD (and unfortunately most of my friends weren't a good fit for playing TTRPGs). Before I start working on setting this all up and putting hours into more art and music and what not... I'd like to know if there's enough interest in this idea! Here's what I'm thinking: Game: Low Fantasy Gaming (a d20 game very similar to DnD 5e, and I welcome new players with little experience) Time: I can do most days except Mondays and Saturdays. I'm at GMT + 1 so I can't do late evenings for North America for example. Setting: The game would take place in and around a town where strange and troublesome things have been going on. This is a dangerous and unforgiving world where the line between the mundane, the magical and folklore is thin. People are superstitious and weary. Ordinary townsfolk know better than to leave the safety of their residence; a small town heavily dependant on trade and travel located in between bigger cities. For decades it has been relatively calm and stable, but recently things have taken a turn for the worse. The town has been shaken by everything from petty theft to cattle being killed, from food storages raided to people going missing. The townspeople are worried and it’s starting to affect travel and trade... The mood and tone I'm going for is something like the Witcher games but with Scandinavian folklore instead. Players: The players would be in town either to investigate or get roped into investigating what is causing all of these problems. (This main storyline I already have planned out, but it's very flexible and is open to different possible endings.) Your character could be motivated by the mystery, the search for knowledge, the monetary reward, the greater good or whatever else you may think of. Low Fantasy Gaming has five player classes: Barbarian, Bard, Fighter, Rogue and Magic User(has a random consequence system like DnD's Wild Magic Surge). I already have one player so I am looking for an additional three or four people who are interested in a low fantasy setting game with a focus on storytelling, roleplaying, investigation, mystery-solving, social interaction and enjoys a slightly darker tone with a lot of Scandinavian folklore. What do you guys think? Any takers?
hi hi, i'd love to join this if possible and if this game is lgbt friendly!!! i'm trans so i will sound rather feminine in voice chat. i'm also scandinavian, so this is super interesting to me!! i'm in GMT+2 (denmark) but i can do practically any time, any day!!! feel free to message me if you want me in the game or need any more info! (i have around 4 years of TTRPG experience and i'm 19 years old, for the record :) !)
I plan on making this 100% inclusive, regardless if that's gender, sexuality, race, whatever. I'm a woman myself and not straight. So don't worry about that! I'll make sure you feel welcome and safe if you end up joining this game! <3
Oh! I should also point out, despite the darker tone and where this game draws inspiration from it will at most feature the barest hints of sexism, racism (even towards fantasy races or creatures) or any themes like those because I simply don't find those topics very interesting or enjoyable. There will be horrible people with horrible intentions, of course, and there will be people scared of the unknown or unique, but not hateful.
that's entirely understandable, i feel the same way!! (also i messaged you, just so you know) this sounds right up my alley :0
I want to join you but im wondering if you have enough people and honestly i know how to play rpg's but i only played roll 20 once before and i dont remember much so i would like to know if i should keep looking, thank you very much.
I would be interested in playing this. I've been looking for something that is a fresh break from the more typical fantasy settings. Even though I'm EST, I can say with certainty I can do Thursdays and Fridays at a time reasonable to you. I will have flexibility on other days, but those days are my best ones. I'm free for any questions you have for me, whether here or in pm's.
Wow! I didn't expect to already have three people interested within just two hours of posting! Clearly there is an interest for this! I'm so happy! I'll start working on the game and set everything up. I'll make a post where people can apply (I'm not going to ask for much, I just want to know what people are looking for and try to find the most fitting group to play with. I don't think "first come, first served" is fair) So watch this space! I'll post tomorrow when I've got things set up to start the process!

Is this structurally or contextually similar to MYFAROG by any chance? I've always been interested in a game where the traditional 5e Pantheon is replaced by the Pantheon of Old Europe

No. I read up on it more and it's literally created by the racist murderer Vikernes... So having read up on it more, not really. The Scandinavian folklore and stuff? Yes. The horrible racism and sexism? NO.
Hey, everyone!  You can now apply here! I hope you join us :)
