On the seventh day of Uktar, Halle Fitzwater fought a duel against the champion of the Oyaviggaton Ice Hunters. No interference was allowed, and if Halle won he and his companions could stay and get answers in the morning. Halle attacked with unmatched ferocity, which prompted the Ice Hunters to try and break their own rules with subtle healing spells on their champion. But a good eye and quick thinking saw Varis counter their attempt, and before another could be made the battle was already over. With Halle victorious, they were shown to a large storehouse where they could rest. Later in the evening the Ice Hunter shaman Bonecarver paid the group a visit and laid out their situation. The Ice Hunters were prisoners of Arauthator, the Old White Death, and more adventurers trying and failing to kill him would only get the dragon to unleash his anger upon their village. Their conversation was interrupted by a dinner of poisoned fish, which Furgus warned them about, and once Bonecarver came clean the group extended a small measure of trust. She described to them the caves beneath the village, and the presence of a Tiefling within them who matched the description of Mccath the Crimson . After a long rest, the group approached Bonecarver's hut before dawn and climbed down the steep stairs down into Oyaviggaton. In their exploration of the ice caves the group discovered and avoided Kobolds, and saw some of Arauthator's numerous frozen creature trophies. Rhogar and his Gazer were drawn to a chest of gold in the trophy room, taking some and alerting the dragon to the presence of trespassers. The group was waylaid by a patrol of Ice Trolls, which they were able to overcome with little effort. Continued exploration revealed a hut made from rugs and tapestries, where the group discovered Mccath the Crimson lounging within. They made short work of her Kobold retainers, and Naivara tried to convince her that all the books she had belonged to them now. That issue was set aside (but not settled) and talks quickly turned towards the need to defeat Arauthator in order to be able to leave this prison. Mccath offered some support in the matter, and led the group into an adjacent chamber where more books and scrolls were kept. At game start it is 8 Uktar in the Year of the Warrior Princess, 1489 DR.
