[LFP][5e][Free] Second Spellplague Wednesday Evenings 19:00 EST

"Two hundred and six years ago, the world of Eldyn was reborn in what was called the Spellplague. The land was reshaped, the people were remade, and the magic took a new form in its entirety. Since that time, tragedy has struck every point in the world more frequently than ever before, and two years ago, an unprecedented number of magi lost their ability to cast spells in what became the Second Spellplague. Today, you begin a quest to uncover what happened to magic throughout the spellplagues." Disclaimer  - I've put countless hours into this campaign to successfully provide a fun environment come game day. You are expected to read the entire post and reasonably meet every expectation listed below in order to prove to me that you are willing to put forth the effort to make this game fun for everyone.  If it's clear to me that you did not read the entire post or met the bare minimum expectations, your application won't be read and you won't receive any reply. The more that goes into your application, the more likely you will be invited.  If you don't wish to put work into the application, this campaign will be too much work for you. Communication is done through voice - no video, and through discord. Thank you for reading thus far, and I hope the below piques your interest. What I'm looking for in a player - Creative - Engaging - Flexible - Fun to play with - Laid-back - Willing to work Character creation - 3rd lvl - Please pick a race that supports the character that you will be playing. Loxodon, Lizardfolk, and Dragonborn are discouraged. - Evil characters, brooders, loners, and characters that are disinclined to help the party are discouraged and are unlikely to receive the okay from me. - You may roll for stats, choose point buy, standard array, or straight-up ask me if you can choose your stats. I don't mind. - If you want to retexture or rename anything without changing the mechanics to better suit your character, run it by me and I'll almost definitely say yes. Game Rules - No horny. If you propose a near-horny character, you may be asked to change. - Understand the rules, stay engaged, and cooperate with the party. - Be respectful and exercise good judgment.  - "It's what my character would do," is not a sufficient idiot and/or *sshole pass.  - Enable others to speak, and try not to speak over others. If you are domineering the session, you will be asked to stop. House Rules - You can cast two spells in a turn if one takes an action and the other takes a bonus action without either one being a cantrip. - If you use your action to ready a spell and the condition is not met before the start of your next turn, you do not expend the spell slot. - If you use your action to ready an attack and you have multiattack, you may make multiple attacks as a reaction. - Consuming a health potion only takes a bonus action. Feeding it to an ally takes a main action. - We use flanking rules. - Any effect that allows a reroll can be used after the die is rolled but must be used before the outcome is determined. I.e fighting style: protection - If a creature falls 20 feet or less, fall damage isn't calculated. - Haste allows you to take any main action, but the attack action only allows one weapon attack. Player Information Name: Gender: Age: 5e/RP experience:  What makes or breaks a game for you: Why I should invite you over someone else: What you're looking for in a group: Discord name and ID number: Character Information Name: Age: Race: Class: Alignment: Personality traits: Backstory: Please do not PM me your application. I will not read it if you do so. You will receive a PM from me if your application is accepted, and you may be invited to a discord call to determine whether or not you will be a good fit. If you did not follow the format or did not read the entire post, you will not receive a PM. Thank you for reading thus far, and know that I appreciate the effort that goes into your application.
Player Information Name: Margaret Gender: Female Age: 28 5e/RP experience: I played 3e for a while about 10 years ago, but have not had the time/a group to do so with since. I have no practical experience with 5e, but I am comfortable with the mechanics/base rules. Most of the games I played were heavy social engineering with mid-level combat and I mostly played casters. I have 0 experience with martial classes but I'm more than willing to try them and I'm happy to learn and play any class that would fit an existing group. What makes or breaks a game for you:      Makes: Engaging story, believable social-political/economic structures. Friendly groups, I met some amazing people playing. I like both RP and combat as long as the PVP is kept to a minimum      Breaks:  Fumble tables. I played a short campaign with fumble tables and it absolutely broke the game for all involved. It was the first time they were introduced to me and I hated every minute of it. If rolling a nat 1 is the worst possible outcome for an action, I don't need to roll a d100 to find out how much worse it can get Why I should invite you over someone else: I'm punctual, friendly, and take fairly good notes. I love to play out character development and to be taken out of my element. I'm conscientious of other players and make an effort to listen to others' ideas. What you're looking for in a group: Friendly people who are   comfortable with a rusty player joining in a campaign with a cliche character Discord name and ID number: Usual_Emergency #8570 Character Information Name:  Caoimhe (pronounced kee-va ) Age: 22 Race: Half-Elf Class: Ranger Alignment: Chaotic Good Personality traits: Quiet but friendly, if very nieve. Desperately wants to make connections away from her family and see the world outside of their protections.  Backstory: Was raised in a group of traveling merchants and performers. Her parents had a hard time conceiving/keeping children, and she is the only child that grew to adulthood. Because of this, her parents hid the realities of the world from her. Despite traveling for her whole life she knows very little of world events or political structures. She can find food and water in the wilderness but could not traverse a town market for even the most simple of items. After sneaking away from their encampment to see another performing troup she was shocked by the casual cruelty and vulgarity of the performers, audience, and the town's guard. She confronted her parents about their lies and ran away when they denied the reality and validity of what she saw.  Because of how she was raised she is trusting to a fault and horrible at deception. She wants to believe in the world as her parents presented it to her but cannot shake the betrayal of their overprotection. I haven't decided on what her background feature would be, but I am leaning towards hermit or outlander. I was considering her alignment to originally be Lawful Good, but the sneaking out and running away, I feel, pushed her more into a Chaotic alignment. Will your game be utilizing DNDBeyond at all? What are your rules when it comes to PVP? Is rape addressed in the narrative, glossed over, or mentioned without any detail? How many people are you looking to have play in your campaign and how long are you planning for sessions to run?
Player Information Name: Eli Gender: Male (He/ Him ) Age: 22 5e/RP experience: 3 years ish with 5e, both offline and online, 5-6 with RP in general, across various media and offline platforms. WoW, Dresden, Homebrews.  What makes or breaks a game for you: A group that can both get along, and have a fun, emotional time  makes  the game, for me. DnD is, by it's very nature, a game of emotional rises and releases, and having a group that can work well together and communicate well, accentuates that into the wonderful experience that it is.  - As for what breaks  a game, players arguing with the DM's ruling. - It is hands down the fastest way to ruin the mood of the game itself, and utterly demolish any semblance of immersion.  Why I should invite you over someone else: I find myself to be well-spoken, heavily outgoing on the RP-side of things. ( IE, if I am playing a Bard, you damn well should expect me to burst into actual song. Serenade your party, bards, gosh. ) - Past this, I like to think that I am easily agreeable, and get on well with most people. I'm not here to 'win' the game. I am here to have a fun time with a group of like-minded individuals!  What you're looking for in a group: Well, for starters, the group ought to be at least able to communicate well enough to explain their enjoyment and disagreements without it turning into a chaotic argument. - The single most important thing in DnD is communication. Past this, an enjoyable experience, an engaging story, and fitting emotional rises and falls.  Discord name and ID number: Eli#1940 Character Information Name: Eleanor Pierce Age: 20     Race: Human ( Variant )  Class: Sorcerer ( Wild Magic )  Alignment: Chaotic Good Personality traits: Outgoing, leadership-accepting, loudmouthed, yet socially awkward at times, often missing social cues as to when it is wrong  to simply speak her mind.  Backstory:  Well, so we arrive at this unfortunate soul's backstory. Or, well. Not-so-unfortunate, but that'll be revealed below.  Eleanor grew up in a hamlet, as many children oft' do. Her upbringing was average, and uninteresting, most commonly being found in the fields, tending to either the crops, or the animals with care, and efficiency to mind. - Her parents were both farmers, and she grew up to understand that she had to pay her way, or go without food! - Of course, even if she did not, or could not pay, her parents would feed her. It was but a lesson to be learnt.  This was all well and good, until she stumbled across the hamlet's local library. - To which she discovered a restricted section. - And then, she had seen, for perhaps the first time in her life, something that she was barred from having. Something she could not work towards attaining. - This lack of knowledge ate away at her mind for years on end, until eventually, under the cover of dusk, she snuck into the library, broke the old, dusty lock with a rock, and began pursuing away at the various dark tomes, and ancient history that she could find.  Then, she came across it. A singular, solitary sheet of folded parchment, locked in a cage. - For all Eleanor knew, this cage was merely decorative, and intended on keeping someone away. - In reality, it was for the safety of the hamlet, that this tidbit of information was not found. - For, scrawled messily and rushed upon the clean paper, could be found a somewhat simplistic ritual. - A ritual to forge a contract with Glasya, the daughter of Asmodeus. The very same Glasya that ruled Malbolge, the 6th layer of Hell.  And so, in perhaps the most idiotic display of sheer naivety ever shown by any Human, Eleanor decided to recite that contract, the hunger for power already deep-set within her soul. - And so, at that exact moment in time, she unknowingly forged a contract, and thusly became a Warlock of, the Queen of Malbolge.  From here, it is rumoured that Eleanor went on to meet the Queen herself, but these rumours are, very obviously, false. - She simply forged a contract for power, sold her soul away for it, and took the sliver of energy for herself. - Becoming a Warlock. What she did not  know, however, was the fact that Glasya is easily considered to be the  contract writer, and had just taken another soul for herself, through a clause in the thing that stated that if the girl were to ever harm a living being, the contract would be broken, and she would take the soul for herself.  Which, obviously, Eleanor did. - Exactly one year later, when a group of bandits decided that, in her travels, perhaps her coin would be better suited in -their- pockets, instead. However, they didn't understand the tiny sliver of power that Eleanor commanded, and were thusly eradicated in a torrent of flame.  And, well. That's all of what Eleanor does not  remember. The moment she broke the pact, Glasya stole her soul, and intended on keeping it for herself. - Till she thought upon a more cruel fate, and intertwined wild magic together, tore it around the ex-Warlock, and sent her back into reality, with the statement that if she 'could not follow order', then she would simply 'never have it again.'  To this day, Eleanor cannot remember any of this, and simply presumes the wild magical surges to be an odd occurrence, ever-present around her person.  Though, perhaps Glasya may intervene again someday, but who is to tell... ( This can both be explored during a campaign as personal progression, or simply ignored! It allows for some amount of DM intervention with the surges, and I am more than willing to use any form of wild magical surge table, from as dull and 'boring' as the vanilla, to as wacky as the DM can come up with, to the 1d10k table! )

Player Information Name: Phil  Gender: Male Age: 24 5e/RP experience: I’ve recently played in only one other campaign in 5e however due to scheduling complications our session was canceled. I have a little experience in previous editions however that was too long ago to remember. What makes or breaks a game for you: Usually the only game breaking experiences I have had or can imagine involve players either being too serious or not serious at all. I love when players get into their characters, but I can’t stand when they see them as just a joke and care less about how if effects the parties experience as well. Or when a player refuses to take a risk partially meta gaming in order to ensure everything is going according to plan, that’s kind of boring. And lastly a DM whom seems determined to kill their players, at the end of the day we’re all here together to have fun, not compete against each other. Why I should invite you over someone else: To be quite honest I’m very new at this, I have never reached out to find a group of people to play anything with. That being said I want the opportunity to meet new people and possibly make new friends. I have a decent amount of knowledge of 5e and am willing to help anyone who is new through the process.  What you're looking for in a group: Friendly people with vast imaginations, a sense of adventure, humor and people who can keep an open mind and an open heart. I’m ultimately very interested in getting well acquainted with whom ever I get to play with. Discord name and ID number: Phil1016#2787 Character Information Name: Oni Age:23 Race:Half-orc Class:Barbarian Alignment : Chaotic neutral Personality traits: Socially awkward and hesitant to trust, but ultimately kind hearted. Determined to prove himself in combat to earn the respect of his people and defend those unable to fend for themselves. A hunger for adventure, eager to discover how his story will unfold. Backstory: Born to a holy woman, in a city at the center of Ojima, Chanbara. His mothers pregnancy was not a product of love or passion but a result of war. A raid by a band of orcs on the land that was home to legendary warriors who were raised and trained to slay monstrosities, fiends and aberrations alike. They were known as the Kensei, a title held for only the greatest of warriors in Ojima. Although the townspeople and high esteemed members were all partial to her choice in keeping her baby, she believed strongly that even an act of aggression or violence can deliver a blessing.  The years that follow were unkind to the boy, dealing with prejudices and isolation due to his appearance. His face was a reminder about the night their city was ambushed and of the creatures that still dwell behind their walls. Adults would spit when he walked by and the kids began to call him names like “Oni” meaning ogre or monster.  He found only comfort and felt only love when beside his mother. Teaching him to play instruments, paint pictures, and told him stories about Ojimas history as well as it’s prized heroes who protected it. The boy was enamored with the idea of these heroes, and felt as though if he can prove himself worthy to become one and protect his home and people, then perhaps he’d not only be accepted but loved by them.  As he aged he grew strong and talented with a blade. He trained his body and strengthened his mind by watching the masters from afar and leaving the village to hunt dangerous animals and live off the land.  One day, he approached a high esteemed warrior in the center of the city and demanded he be accepted for the trials of a kensei. Those who surrounded them laughed, but what came next was surprising. He agreed to allow him to partake in the trials. But first he must be reborn, travel the world and discover who he really is and cast aside his “impurities”. Of course agreeing to these terms he returned to say goodbye to his mother and had one request from her, that she would make him a mask representing the face of a demon/ monster. He hid his true face from the world and refused to tell anyone his birth name, insisting they’d call him “Oni”,    until he felt he was cleansed of his “impurities”. It was then he embarked on his pilgrimage of enlightenment.

Player Information Name: Ray Gender: Male Age: 20 5e/RP experience: I've been playing DnD for around 2 years both as a player and a DM. What makes or breaks a game for you: Engaging stories and interesting worlds to explore make me really happy when I'm playing. Most things that I don't like surface with players. For instance, people who make murderhobos, rule lawyers, people who argue with and criticize the DM and other players, just those just don't vibe with me. I also don't want to play with anyone who's going to be weirded out if I make a character gay (I'm queer myself). Why I should invite you over someone else: I'm a very easygoing and friendly person, and I'm not too married to my ideas. If I need to change something about my character at the behest of my DM, be it backstory or character build or whatever, I'm very agreeable when it comes to that. I'm also a very good roleplayer. I'm still a theater kid at heart and I love stepping into characters for a while and acting the part. I will actively and creatively engage in roleplay. What you're looking for in a group: A group that is engaging and work off of each other well in roleplay, combat, and really every facet of the game. Not only that, a group who's characters really Yes-And each other and make an effort to helping each other's characters grow and achieve their goals, not just their own. Basicially a group who's in it for everyone and not just themselves. Discord name and ID number: Character Information Name: Hattie Bonnefoy Age: 16 Race: Human Class: Bard (College of Lore) Alignment: Lawful Good Personality traits: Hattie has a very fun personality, and loves living life to the fullest. She loves singing, dancing, and having a good time. She's very extroverted, and if she sees people having fun she'll definitely want to join in. She can be a little naive and easy to fool, as she's more familiar with the social customs on the sea rather than the ones on land. She loves cute clothes and is very girly. Her most prized possession is her trusty, blue cherrywood violin that was a gift from her adopted father. Backstory:     Hattie Bonnefoy was born Hadassah Elizabeth Bonnefoy in the port town of Foal’s Landing to Mary and Warren Bonnefoy. Hattie’s parents were both import merchants, so Hattie spent most of her time as a child on voyages aboard her parents’ ship, The Blue Dandy. Her childhood was spent helping her parents with the business, playing with other kids on the docks of port towns and trading posts the Dandy would dock at to do business, and learning how to pilot ships. Hattie began playing the violin at the age of 5, and it quickly became her passion. From then on she spent hours every day practicing, much to the delight of her parents and their crew. Outside of the trading seasons, Hattie and her parents would return to Foal’s Landing and continue business from home for a few months out of the year, but most of Hattie’s time as a child was spent at sea. When Hattie was around 10 years old, the Blue Dandy was attacked by pirates. They let themselves onto the ship under the guise of a fellow mercantile rig, and then proceeded to pillage the ship. They took anything that wasn’t nailed down and killed most of the crew, including both of Hattie’s parents. Hattie was run through the stomach with a sword and flung from the ship. As she sank deeper and deeper into the ocean, a glowing form surrounded her, keeping her from sinking further. The only thing that Hattie remembers from when she was drowning was the beautiful, lulling voice of a singing woman and threads of golden light wrapping her in a warm embrace. The last thing that Hattie saw before she blacked out was the golden, glowing face of a giant woman singing to her as she faded. When Hattie next came to consciousness, she was clinging to a piece of driftwood in the middle of the ocean with the sound of people yelling in the distance.  A dwarven logging ship helmed by captain Ranyl Thuldren had spotted her floating in the ocean and quickly brought her onboard the ship. Hattie told them that she was from the Blue Dandy, and Ranyl somberly told her that the whole of the Blue Dandy had gone down in the pirate attack with no survivors. Ranyl thought it strange that Hattie explained how she was stabbed and thrown off the ship, as she had no wounds or any scar tissue for that matter.  Hattie asked Ranyl if she could stay on the logging rig and work, since she didn’t want to be put into a home by the government. Ranyl said yes, and gave her chores around the ship like washing dishes in the galley, swabbing the deck, keeping the cannons clean and functional, and mending tears in the sails among the other dwarvish workers. The crew immediately took a liking to Hattie, saying that they even felt that Hattie’s singing and music helped them work better. Eventually, Ranyl legally adopted Hattie to avoid any pestering from the government. Hattie continued to work on the ship until she was 16 years old, all the while practicing the violin and learning more about her newfound bardic abilities. Shortly after her 16th birthday, she left Ranyl’s rig to explore the dryer parts of the world, having spent all of her time at sea.
