Sounds like phantom gamers. This is a bug that happens sometimes when someone does not leave the game room through the use of the quit game button (setting tab). If they they just closed the browser, they can still be shown as active. If they left the game completely (not shown on the player roster outside the game) while they were still ghosting, they can still show up. Drop a request to Roll20 (<a href="https://roll20.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/requests/new" rel="nofollow">https://roll20.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/requests/new</a>) to remove them. Choose other in the drop down menu and explain what you need.
thank you, good to know i'm not going crazy, i've ended up just remaking the game as due to what feels like a cache overflow (i know nothing about computers but google says...) it runs so slowly that its unplayable, so i'm just going to reimport the maps etc.

you should not need to re-import the maps as they are stored in your art library (as everything graphical that is uploaded). If you remake the game, you could even use the transmogrifier to copy your already created maps over to the new game which can help if you spent time setting up a map or few. You can do this for handouts and character sheets also. Quickest and easiest way is just to use the make copy game feature (it is in the main game page in the popup menu on the setting button). This would let you copy the existing game without players, chat, and other things as you get to select certain items to include with the copy.
i've done most of that, but i think the issue is with one of the maps (people deleting token art while a token was on the map is most likely the issue) so i've had to remove the maps and grab them from the library again.
