Dynamic Lightign query

Am i right in thinking that when a map with LDL loads it calculates the lighting for every token that has "Has Sight" enabled? I only ask as i've just bought the Curse of Strahd module and it looks like every NPC and monster token on each map has "Has Sight" enabled, which i don't really see as being required.

You are right in your thinking - a purchased module shouldn't have "has sight" ticked for every NPC token. If that's how it behaves out of the box, I'd call that incredibly lazy work from Roll 20. I don't own the content so I can't check. You can find info here for changing the default settings, and then (very importantly) for applying those settings to all existing tokens in the game. You absolutely should not have to do this for purchased content.
Life saver!  Thanks so much.  Progress bar is still going so this may take a while.

Is this really how the tokens are set up in a fresh CoS game? That's pretty poor if it's true.

Seems that way yes.  I've check 5 or 6 different random maps and every token I checked had "Has Sight" enabled. I've not checked stuff like the GM room number tokens though, but if everything else had it enabled i'd imagine they did as well. It's obviously not a small number of maps and tokens too - the slider is STILL going.

Worse is when they have darkvision set up as well.

Early modules were set up in that way... I guess it was to showcase the DL functionality, a misguided expectation that DMs wanted to see sight lines for monsters maybe... either way, the feedback was quickly the same as this thread and modern ones don't do it any more (or so I believe!). Hopefully they'll go back and patch the older ones to remove it sometime in the future, when time allows :/

That is odd. I know that newer modules have sight off by default. I wonder if Strahd was missed or is old enough to predate the practice. I'd suggest filing a  Help Center Request . That will create a ticket for the problem to be investigated.
Turns out that several of them are also set up to emit 60ft of bright light (?!) so i'm having to take another pass at it.
