LFP Tuesdays, 11am CST: Troupe Style Superheroes (think Avengers/MCU movies)

Looking for gamers for a G+ Roll20 game that will be on Tuesday afternoons this summer at 11am CST. Ever want to play a game like the Marvel comics movie universe with your own characters? A game where you get to have a large, ensemble hero movie and then individual film which focus on specific heroes and their supporting cast of heroes and villains? After Character Creation, this game will begin with a game of Marvel Heroic Roleplaying (Cortex+ Heroic), where all the heroes are brought together in defense of the city. Street Level/X-Men power level heroes, the first game will be a game of mighty heroics and tense action. Then, as we enter into the other games, it's going to change a bit. The next few sessions will each by a 'movie' for the various heroes. We'll also be creating characters with Smallville (Cortex+ Dramatic), which creates a web of character relationships and a bunch of NPCs and locations. Each Hero will have a spotlight session where the other players will take over the NPCs (both friendly and villains) which will allow for depth of character and dramatic situations where sometimes being able to hit something doesn't help. Then, after each hero has a spotlight episode, we will end up with another ensemble film. If you like TV shows like Arrow, that will be a bit of the feel of the individual 'movies'. There will be action but the focus will be on relationships, character, and emotional/social conflicts. I'm a teacher/actor/director/improvisor who enjoys playing with proactive gamers who enjoy character. For characters to get into interesting situations, you can't want them to be a bubble-wrap where nothing bad happens. While I don't generally create bad things for characters (firmly in the Apocalypse World "be a fan of your characters" style of GMing), things that don't go perfectly for a character are fodder for great stories. Since Cortex+ Dramatic includes social conflict, there will be times your character is going to lose an argument---especially to another player. Part of the fun is seeing where things can go. I've got the summer off and have wanted to run a game like this for awhile. Once the school year starts up, it would be possible to see if other times work for people, but my theatre schedule can make it difficult.
I've got only the most basic of experiences with Cortex (through an older edition of Firefly RPG), but this sounds promising. I do have a preference for "heroic" characters to have mundane weaknesses, too, though - there's very little as boring as someone who has an answer to every challenge! With the above in mind, I'm interested. Developing cooperative stories is what RP is all about, and although it's been decades since I did any improv theatre, I don't mind digging some of that up in the process, either!
The old Cortex doesn't resemble the new one much, which is good because I thought the old one was kind of boringly generic. Once we have 3-4 players (there's another one good to go now), we can start some character creation via the game forum. I'll be starting creation with Smallville (and it'd be good if people could take a look) and I'll do a quick convert over to Marvel Heroic for the group hero sessions. The Cortex+ Hacker's Guide breaks down the basics of each type of Cortex+ in about 2 pages each. The base of the game is pretty simple and easy to teach, thankfully.
CST or CDT?
this game sounds prtty interesting if you guys are willing to teach i'd be more then happy to learn.
I am very interested in playing this! It sounds like an incredible idea, and if you have room I would love to join. I am trying to learn all about cortex ± on my breaks today. I've never used the system before but what I've read already sounds exciting!
The concept sounds awesome. I'm interested if you have any space left.
It appears as if we're in CDT right now. (Lost an hour of sleep in March! Boo!) The link is here: https://app.roll20.net/join/424978/3K3u3Q I've currently got more interested than would be best to run with but, in the internet law of trying to get a game together where it's not people you know personally, we'll likely end up losing a few people before things get started. If not, I'll figure out something. Click the link and I'll have some stuff on creating characters up soon.
