[LFP] Looking for Warhammer 40k buddies!

Hello friends! In the grim dark future of the 41st millennium there is only war! Waaagh!!! A busy schedule, lack of funds, and lack of painting ability took me out of the 40k game long ago, but I've now realized Roll20 will let me skip all of that and get right down to slaughter! Looking for anyone who wants to kill an afternoon now and again with this wonderfully bloody game. Ideally you'd have some experience since the rules are fiendishly complicated and I'm discovering I do not remember most of them. That said, newbies are quite welcome too! I have online, shareable access to the 8th edition core rulebook and all the codexes. For setup, I imagine we'd agree on a points limit, share our army lists, and then I'll create a map and tokens for us. I'm pretty used to the Roll20 system as a D&D DM, so whipping out such assets is no big deal. We'd also have to agree on how to fudge the rules for online play, but so far I've been having reasonable success with 1" hexagonal grids and open terrain maps. Stuff like line of sight, scatter dice, templates, and which side of a vehicle you happen to be shooting will be subject to some discussion as well, but I imagine can be easily solved. (My scatter dice solution is to roll a D6 and take a hit on a 5+, then roll a D12 +2D6 to determine the direction and distance of any resulting scatter with the D12 representing the six points and faces of the target hexagon. Seems to work pretty well!) Message me if you're interested! Then I can go from wistfully writing army lists to excitedly writing army lists!
I'd be interested in giving this a-go. Have been looking to try the wargaming side of 40k for awhile now.
I'd be interested, though I don't know how often I'd be able to play,
Great! I'll invite you both to the setup I have going. It's not too much at the moment, just a couple maps and a "staging ground" to house tokens.
I would be really interested in this game. I have never played the mass combat systems though I have always wanted to. I am have 4 decades of RPG exp and I am sure I will learn fast.
i'd be open to play as a brand new player full of W40K gusto needing to learn the rules, is that okay?

All are welcome! Let it be like the Games Workshops of old where we convene in bloody battle as our schedules permit and with snacks on hand. Total newbies are of course welcome, but with the caveat that I am not confident enough in my understanding of the rules to adequately explain them. Nevertheless, I will do my absolute best! Here is a link to the books I have been using: [Mod: Link Removed] I was pretty sure that rulebook was 8th edition, but based on what Dab says maybe it's 7th? Or maybe I just haven't gotten to the scatter dice (or lack thereof) yet. And here is an invite link to the game: https://app.roll20.net/join/8515075/nhfzZA For scheduling and general discussion, I've posted a thread on the game page itself. Come say hi!
Trevor, A fellow D&D DM of many years here. I have not played 40k since high school, when i had the models. That was back in like 2006-08, and i think it was like 3-4 edition. I have remained a stalwart fan of the 40k universe and fandom. I am honestly interested in this concept, even helping with asset generation, to get his idea off the ground. I'll send you a private message with my Discord if you wish to reach out to me via that.
