Interest Check: Play by post with biweekly sessions for L5R or Game of Thrones

I love L5R for its ability to bring out more interest in in-character relationships and political plotting and I have played it a fair bit. I have not played the SIAF but from what I have read it is similar to the L5R system in its basic dice mechanics. The problem being that these in-character exchanges usually take a lot of time. At the moment I don't have a lot of time to invest in one sitting but I do have a lot of time to invest in short spurts so I figure I'd try to see if anyone else would want to play in a play-by-post/regular hybrid. I did this once semi-successfully with a Rogue Trader game about 2 years ago and I think it'd work pretty well with either of these systems due to their slower paced nature.

Hi! Interested here, but with a question: when would the sessions be? If the game continues past the summer, I'd still want to keep playing. In fact, how does the hybrid system work? Do we just do both?

This is just in general about how some hybrid games are played. It varies from GM to Gm but they just don't stop play at all. They just slow down as they move from a live session to a posting session. There are pro and cons that a GM needs to address but Matt C indicated he has ran these types of games successfully so he should have a handle on them. Depending on the communication style of the live sessions, the GM might have to post a summary for the play by post continuation if it is voice or let the play continue in the chat board if it is text based. I find text is the less jarring to switch between live session and pbp continuation but if the GM is good, voice to pbp will work.
I don't know what day the live session would be I am just checking for interest. If we do get some players then we can see about what day the live can be on and try to work something out. The way I did it in Rogue Trader was that we played a live session once every 2ish weeks so generally they'd do something important during the live session (fight a battle, set an endeavor, go to a Winterscale party) then RP out any smaller, more personal, less important, or loss ends during the play-by-post. So for example the RT of the party 'recruited' a biker gang from a desert world during one of the live sessions then during their warp travel back he RP'd a bunch with them trying to get them trained and to stop being a bunch of punks on his ship. Another example the seneschal spent some time RPing out various messages between himself and his spy network on footfall.

Alright, sounds cool to me. You definitely ave me interested, then.
Do you have a preference for L5R or Song of Ice and Fire RPG Calle? For the L5R game it would be start in the year 440 or 441 which is about a year before the battle of the white stag so not all of the clans would be available. The GoT game would start some time during the first book.

Either one is fine by me. I'm more familiar with the ASOIAF lore than L5R, but I'm up for either. I do have a character prepared for both games, but the ASOIAF character is going to need some minor alterations to fit the timeline of the books. Possibly the same for the L5R character - as said, I don't know the lore that well.
I'm up for A Song of Ice and Fire. I've been looking for a GoT game and this take on how to play it definitely looks interesting.
Cool if I can get one more person to post some interest we can look into setting up a day and stuff.
Just curious, is it going to be based on the canon or not? Also, roughly when during the first book will it start?

For GoT I'll try to stay some what close to what happens in the book provided the players don't do some crazy stuff and make a huge impact. Of course if people are just going to blatantly metagame then I'll change it up. As for when it starts that'll probably depend on what kind of group the party is and what kind of campaign the group wants. If the group wants to be a noble house then I think I'll start it around the time Robert goes to visit Ned. If they just want to be a band of mercs or just regular peoples then maybe later. Subject to change though once we get a group down and stuff more hammered out.

If we end up going with the mercenary idea, I think the War of the Five Kings could make for an interesting setting. Maybe we could even be part of the Brave Companions.
Or just an unaffiliated band of mercenaries.
Someone said L5R. You have my undivided attention provided the game will have at least a modicum of gameplay focus on the court side of things, the social and political game.
So we have 2 for game of thrones and ome for L5R. Lazy you are ok with the play by post part of the game?
