Hi all, I've been scooting around thinking of remaking this sheet for a couple months and decided a sheet blog-topic would be helpful. Help me get a move on, get people's feedback, and maybe someone will enjoy watching my "process". I'll probably link to this topic from the character sheet so people currently using the sheet can air their comments. So let's start off with the why, and by extension, my goals for the new sheet. So the entire sheet is made with tables which is faux pas and not supposed to be accepted by Roll20, so there's that. I'd really like to update it to flexbox/grid. And lastly, I'd like the sheet to scale to various source books and incorporate a larger variety of rules: Obviously non-Hermetic magic is very difficult to pull off currently in this rendition. I'd also like to take a shot at incorporating a covenants finances page and some kind of seasonal tracker. --------------------------------------- So, the first step for me is obviously aesthetics! Obviously "form follows function" and that's true but sometimes they can hold hands. For example, I've been keen on making the sheet look like an old manuscript, a la Nuremberg Chronicles or the book of black hours [pictured below]. This might inform me about how I want to accomplish certain things like the tab menus, maybe I want to make the tab menu look like bookmarks, does that work in a horizontal row of links or is it better to do it vertically? Maybe I should have the bookmarks float in from the side? However, I also favor sources of inspiration that lets me play with different materials. A lot of inspiration from the Diablo series, in particular these concepts for Diablo 4. Now, I was struggling a bit between these two aesthetics but I think I've landed on that the character sheet can have both. A manuscript for the character information, virtues/flaws, and personality. The book aesthetic gives away with a gothic leather and metal feel when we get into the arts and laboratory activity. I have it in mind to swap out again when we're in combat/seasonal but we'll see how many extra assets I need to pull this off. Well, that's enough for now. I'm going to start working on the raw HTML and figure out my sections and just how much I need to plan for.
