[LFP] [D&D 5e] [18+] West Marches LITE

Hello everyone, we are currently looking to recruit a few more players to our West Marches server to fill out our roster! If you are currently looking for a game, please consider joining us! Our server is a West Marches LITE game. Exploration and discovery is at the forefront, with the story of the sessions usually evolving around the players decisions. Roleplay takes the stage in this server, with character development being heavily focused on by our current players, though they are no stranger to combat! In terms of why we consider it a LITE West Marches style is that, we are not your typical West Marches game. We do not incorporate many of the downtime options or city building that other, larger servers have. We are simply a group of friends who wish to have fun and play some Dungeons and Dragons, without having to worry too much about the other details. Games are guaranteed run on Fridays and Saturdays, and often times Sundays as well, with weekday games by request. Usually, games will start at 7PM CST, but other times are occasionally available by request. This being said, we are not a big, serious West Marches server. We all have work schedules and other commitments, but we try to play as often as we can. Because of this, we don't use schedule bots or anything like that. If a session is requested, a DM who can run it posts it up, and people sign up for it. Usually first come first serve, but we try to regulate it so everyone gets an equal amount of play time! We have two DMs in the US who run games during the evenings, and a DM in Europe who can do afternoon games occasionally, as well as evening games during the weekends as well. As DMs, we try to develop an immersive world where character choice matters. This means that certain subjects might get brought up. Undeath, sacrifice, horror, blood, the Wish spell, these are all subjects that may be brought up in game. We will never touch on anything sexual, though we do like to explore inter-character relationships. We also tend to run a deadlier world. Despite all this, at the end of the day, we are all just looking to have a fun and enjoyable time playing this game that we love. As players, I mentioned that we are all friends. This means that we tend to goof off and make jokes during the game. We strive to stay in character whenever we can, but occasionally we'll break immersion and have a laugh about things that happened. Now, bad experiences are a thing that happen. We've all seen the memes about "that player" and "that guy", so we will have a bit of an application process for players who would like to join. If you'd like to join, please respond to this post answering the following questions to the best of your ability, and we will do our best to get back to you in a timely manner! What is your experience with DnD? Describe your playstyle and what you would like out of a game. Give us a short backstory idea. How do you handle conflict, both with players and the DM, at the table? Do you have a good internet connection and microphone? What days and times would be best for you? Are you over 21 years of age? (We occasionally touch on adult subjects and themes) Any other questions or concerns you might have. Here are a couple descriptions of our game from the perspective of our players! (Names have been hidden for privacy reasons) DnD Addict 1: I’ve been part of the Throw the Gnomes west marches since its conception months ago and there hasn’t been a week where I haven't wanted to play. Every session is always a treat to enjoy whether it was a beach vacation or an investigation into a towns dying farms revealing ugly truths of some townsfolk. In this setting everything mainly revolves around the interactions and stories our characters tell on their outings into foreign lands. Look no further for high tier role play and DMs who make enjoyable sessions so everyone has fun just join already so I can play more. DnD Addict 2: I was pretty skeptical of online DnD before I started playing with these folks, but now I have seen the light! Roleplay and story are paramount, and it is amazing to watch bonds form between characters that I would never imagine could be close. But, hey! When the thieves’ guild cuts the flighty, paranoid yuan-ti’s tongue out because she accidentally blurted something (psyche! It was because her best friend asked them to) and the goofy, hobo-looking monk acts as her bodyguard the following week, maybe she starts to think he’s alright. And did I mention we live on a flying turtle? Come live on a flying turtle with us and see what these crazy DMs have in store. We love DnD, and at the end of the day, we are all just looking for a way to escape the current reality we all find ourselves in. If our game can help with that in any way, then we would love to have you with us! -The Throw the Gnome server

Experiences with D&D: In terms of learning about D&D as a whole a lot of my knowledge comes from watching Critical Role (especially, up to ep 104 in season 2 and a little bit of season 1), Adventure Zone as well as making a bunch of character sheets that unfortunately won't see the light of day. In terms of personal experience, however, I have played in a few campaigns of different DMs that usually end after a few sessions that are due to players leaving with understandable reasons, not having enough people available at the scheduled times, or the DM being constantly busy with personal issues. I've been really, really wanting to play DnD with other people, and this time really get into roleplaying, although with past bad experiences either with other players or even the DM themselves and being anxious sticking out my neck for a chance to play D&D in any way has been reconsider a lot of the times. Playstyle: I've always been the person who always had in mind in terms of character what sorts of spells or equipment would fit thematically and would try to sorta roleplay the character but I always struggled to get into the mindset of another character, so it ends up being "something just a bit less than metagaming" with character creation. That's not to say I try my damnedest to not metagame in-session, though, I just have a hard time not being like "oh fuck I got a healing potion!" to the person who just went down so they're not as stressed out about dying. In terms of exploration, I just follow whoever has the best idea in terms of where to go I guess. Backstory Idea: I already got the basic frameworks of the character that I just made not too long ago Basically, my character is a Dragonborn warlock who was a part of a cult that worshiped one of the evil god/goddesses, but because of a break-in by either a group of adventurers or a nearby guild, she decided to convert rather than die and now is more towards neutral. Here's the character sheet if you want to check it out, I do have it at level 5 since it was planned for another campaign that was posted here in the forums but the post was deleted and I never got a message, can always change the level or anything else whenever: https://www.myth-weavers.com/sheet.html#id=2314303 this is the only character where I filled the descriptions, personality, character traits, and character flaws Edit: Changed the character from level 5 to 3 Handling Conflict: I really don't like confrontations or arguing at all so I'd want to end that conflict as quickly as possible. I lack much awareness if I'm doing something wrong so just tell me I'm being a doofus and I'll keep more in mind. At the same time I don't like not having a fair chance to explaining myself either, as there was one instance where a DM misunderstood me that I wanted a bunch of people to be kicked from the campaign but I actually just wanted them to be a little more calm in sessions. In the end, though, I got kicked from the campaign and this was the first campaign I ever was involved in so I was distraught for a long time. Do you have a good internet connection and microphone? I have a pretty good internet connection seeing that I never really lag much in discord calls or games, and the mic I have is serviceable enough; the one I own is a TONOR TC-777 and I use Voicemeeter to further tweak the output. Best available times (In CST) I don't really mind what time either way, but I'm usually comfortable with sorta afternoon times, 5 pm and onward; so hey works with what you've got planned already Over 21? Ye, I'm 22 years old, born May 1998 Questions What would be the size of the party that you'd be wanting? What exactly is "West Marches"? How deadly is "deadly"?
What is your experience with DnD? First got introduced to it by games like Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 and Neverwinter Nights 1 and 2, but never played the PnP versions of those editions. Played 4e for a little bit around a decade ago. Eventually got a hankering to start playing DnD again in mid-2018 and found a group on Roll20. Been playing 5e D&D regularly on here ever since. Describe your playstyle and what you would like out of a game. I'd say I'm probably 60/40 Roleplay/Combat. I enjoy combat and the tactical aspect of it and working together to defeat the bad guys. But I enjoy the storytelling, exploration, and being able to find other solutions to problems that don't include overwhelming applications of violence. I'd say I'm more interested in just hanging out and having fun playing D&D than I am interested in trying to overcome some huge challenge or meatgrinder of a campaign. I tend to joke around a fair bit out of character once I get comfortable with a group but try to keep my joking more on the side of friendly ribbing. Give us a short backstory idea. It usually depends on the available material. I also try to keep my character concepts a bit vague so I can try to adjust things to fit into the lore of the world once I find out more about it or in case the DM wants to try and work something in. A centaur paladin (oath of ancients) that became obsessed with knights and the romanticized ideals of chivalry as a youth and aspires to become like one of those knights themselves. A young drow druid (circle of the moon) that lived with her parents in the woods for most of her life but one day they mysteriously vanished and so she sets out to find them. How do you handle conflict, both with players and the DM, at the table? Well, depends on the conflict. If it's something that's not a big deal, I'll more than likely just let it slide. If I'm not involved I have a tendency to just back away and try to stay out of it. If I am involved I try to take a step back so I can take a breath and try to find a way to talk things out in a civil manner. If I have an issue with something during a game, I'm more likely to try and put it aside to deal with later so the game can continue, unless it's something really big or directly related to what's going on in the game (like a player deciding to try and kill another player's character because they don't like that player). Do you have a good internet connection and microphone? Well, I haven't heard any complaints about either from any of the couple dozen people I've played with over the last two years, so I think I'm good on that front. What days and times would be best for you? Currently, Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays are wide open for me. On Wednesday and Sunday I've got early-ish games that run until around 4-5pm CST, but the rest of the day after that is open. Saturdays before 9pm CST are also available. Are you over 21 years of age? (We occasionally touch on adult subjects and themes) Yes, I'm 33. T_T Any other questions or concerns you might have. Nothing comes to mind.
