So just got roll20. Think it seems really groovy, but I have no idea what I'm doing. So I was thinking I could find some others that don't know what they're doing or some charitable experienced player and we could figure things out. I am into to mostly sci-fi genres but up for just about anything.

Welcome and well met! If you want to just dive in and announce a game, that works. Otherwise you may wish to check out the various 'pickup' games (Games-> Join a Game) just to see how some folks run their show.
