Access to API

Hello, I recently started using roll20 and, being a programmer, I would be interested in using the API. I'm willing to contribute to the development of roll20. However, paying 100$ a year just for that feature seems really prohibitive. Are there by chance other kind of contributions that could give me acces to the API? Thanks.

If you've got a regular gaming group that wants to take advantage of what the API can add to a campaign, you could have them gift you subscription time, and split up the cost between all of you.

Mentor is much more then just API access. For starters, 2000 megs of storage over 100 is huge. Also having assets upto 10megs as well. With mentor not only do you get the API you get the ability to make custom character sheets. As a mentor you get full access on the dev server. This includes all the features that are currently in development. To top that all off, the mentor token program gives you access to so many tokens for free. $100 for a whole year of this awesomeness is well justified, especially when you consider what Brian suggests. In fact, this is what my players have done for me. I bought the first month, made some scripts and maps and showed them. They are paying for the year while I make the campaigns for them to enjoy.
I understand the different advantages of being mentor, but all I am interested in is the API. I would be willing to support roll20 with a more modest contribution for just that feature. With the current supporter/mentor subscriptions, I have to pay for features that I don't need. I'm wondering if you could collect more funds by allowing to subscribe for more specific features than just these two broad categories. In the meantime, I guess I'm back to my cumbersome macros. Cheers, Odsh
The API has a very real cost associated with it for us. We have to run a VM essentially for everyone in your campaign (x) however many campaigns you have. So in addition to all the other features you get (which we think makes it a good deal), we really can't reduce the cost of the API much anyway simply because we'd be running it at a loss.
